1ST Cruise would we be nuts to book a 7 day??

Just remember there are two stages of sea-sickness:
Stage 1: You think your going to die.
Stage 2: You wish you were dead.

At first I :rotfl: at this, but then I thought Uh oh, because you're right! :worried:

Our first cruise coming up is also a 7-day, and I'm going to make sure I have sea sickness meds, just in case. I think I've read here to take the bonine before you even board, not to wait until you feel sick.

I am currently on the Magic headed to Mexico. I was worried abotu seasickness for both myself and my youngest (DS9). I got myself the patches and brought everything else I could think of - sea bands, dramamine, bonine, etc. I put the patch on the morning of embarkation and have not had a smidgen of sea sickness. My son has needed nothing. However, the ship is moving very smoothly

My first cruise was a 7-day eastern Caribbean out of Port Canaveral (Holland America) in early March 2004. I took Bonine every day, but the seas were quite rough the first 2 days, and I felt pretty crummy. However, everyone told me "it's not usually this bad"! I sailed in mid-April 2005 out of Tampa (Royal Caribbean) on a westen itinerary, and the seas were much calmer. There's no way to predict how rough the seas will be, or how you will react to motion. Just go and expect to have the time of your lives!

Our first cruise was the 7 day western and there were a few hours the first night which were rough, but then I was fine afterwards. A friend of mine had told me that it was going to be rough until about 9pm or so and she was right!

I have horrible motion sickness and had started taking Bonine the day we sailed, but had to change things up a bit. I took one in the morning and a second one at dinner instead of taking both at once and that really helped.

When we cruised this year, I was smart and started to take the Bonine a couple of days prior to the cruise so that it was in my system and that was perfect -- didn't feel a thing and everything was fine.

Having just got back from a 3 night, I would do it. There simply was not enough time for us to try half the things available on the ship. My kids never even made it into any of the kids activities because there was so much else to do.

As far as the motion goes, I have sailed a fair amount - as far a bare-boat charters for 10 days. It was a push to get DH on a cruise because he has always said he won't go on a boat he doesn't get to "drive." I am use to motion on the water. That said, there were moments during the shows where I felt "light headed" and started to wonder why I was feeling odd. It would quickly pass, but it was because of the sense of motion without being able to see the movement. You do feel the motion. DD (12yo) and DH also commented on it. I think the most we felt the motion was in Parrot Cay and in the Walt Disney theatre.
