We are almost ready to book the 7 day cruise but since none of us have done this before I am worried about getting sea sick for 7 days.

The most we have been on the water is the 2.5 hour ferry from PEI to Nova Scotia. No Problems there. None of us get car sick, but I am nausuous (sp) if I try to read in the car??? I plan on getting sea bands but I don't take medication......

Am I nuts??? Do you feel alot of movement, I have heard people say you don't know you are on a boat and others saying it's OK but youknow you are on a boat :confused3

Please give me some advise, I plan on booking this today.

Thanks

Go for it! Book the 7-day. Pack some Bonine.
I don't think you'll get sick, you will hardly feel the movement. Plus, 3 out of the 7 days, the ship is docked, so there are really only 3 full sea days, and the seas in the Caribbean are very calm, it looks like you are gliding across glass.
I don't think you will regret going on the 7-day cruise, it's so worth it.

I agree, try Bonnine. If you really want to stay away from medications, try ginger or green apples. 7 days was just the right length of time for our first cruise.

Have a great time!

I say book the 7 day & plan for the worst & hope for the best. We had 12-15 foot waves, gale-force winds across the deck for most of the first 2 days. None of us got sick, but I did know the ship was moving.

Do a search on sea-sickness & you find almost every solution to avoiding it. It is far better to prevent it, than to cure it!!!!

Just remember there are two stages of sea-sickness:
Stage 1: You think your going to die.
Stage 2: You wish you were dead.

We were in the same boat (sorry for the pun), but we decided to try the 7 day cruise over the 4 day cruise, I'm so glad we did!!! We packed two boxes of Bonine for our group of six and never opened either box. We have been on two cruises since, and the Bonine has still never been opened, in fact we had to throw the Bonine away after our January cruise, because it passed the expiration date.

Our first cruise was a 7 night..the western itinerary. I do have a problem with motion sickness and I was fine on the ship, actually better than on land.

Book it and enjoy. The ship has stabilizers, you really don't feel anything at all.

Well, Hockeychic, if you are nuts, so am I!! I have never cruised and just booked a seven night. I found a great rate on a prime time and said, go for it! All these people love it so much, it must be great!

DW just got sick trying to read the mail in the car this weekend. Our first cruise was the Magic 7 day Eastern and she did great (with Sea Bands and Bonine). We had a great time and never regretted it for a second. If you do the shorter you will wish you had more time onboard. So I say go for it. You will love it.

Go for the 7 day! That's what we started with. You will have the time to really relax & get to know your way around the ship. :) The seas weren't like glass for us on our first eastern in November but we didn't get sick. I took Bonine starting the day before when we went to MK & I was able to ride the spinning rides with the kids without feeling sick!

I agree...GO FOR IT!
The DH and I are pretty much the same way, we don't ever get motion sickness or anything like that, and we had never been on the water for a long period of time until we took our cruise. The DH is like you, he gets a little quesy if he tries to read while riding, but other than that he's fine. He was a little worried that he would be sick, but he took some Bonine on the first night and was fine from then on, and at times the seas were pretty rough.
We only did the 3-night because, just like you, we were afraid of wether we were gonna like it or not. I wish now that we would have done a longer one, and am trying to get a 7 day booked for 2006 as soon as the dates and prices come out.
You can't go wrong with Disney, so JUST DO IT...LOL! :cheer2:

We did the four day and rebooked for the seven day. Though I'm glad we did the four day first.

Cruising isn't for everyone. Some people come back disappointed. Their kids don't like the kids clubs. They didn't enjoy the food. There wasn't enough to do to their liking. Whatever the reason - they don't enjoy it. Those people don't tend to hang around here for longer than posting their "well, it wasn't for me" post - because they aren't planning next cruises. So if you post here you'll get the opinions from people who would gladly spend weeks at a time on the ship.

After four days, I have my concerns with the seven day - none of them with seasickness. The cabin will get small (it was getting small after three and I was sort of glad to leave on the forth). We will get bored of the activities on the ship. The kids will get bored of the clubs (particularly my son, who was less impressed with the clubs than my daughter), or the kids will fall in with kids who I really don't want them to spend seven days with.

At least for us, motion sickness on land or in the air did not equate to motion sickness on the water. I can't read in a car, train or plane and will get sick if I'm not watching directly forward - (which is difficult in a train and plane :rotfl: ). But, I'm FINE on a ship. DH is just the opposite - he sits in the back of the van while we're driving and plays games with the kids - this would kill me! On a ship he gets a bit quesy! Go figure!

My guess is that if you did a 2.5 hour ferry to Nova Scotia with no problems, then you'll be fine. You would have felt that movement much more severely then you'll feel on a large cruise ship (except in bad weather).

If you're adverse to medication, read up on natural solutions before you go and be prepared. They also say that most people get their "sea legs" after a day or so.

I don't think you are nuts at all. I love the 7 day xruises with DCL. I am going to PM you.

I say go for it. My first cruise was a 7 day.

We just had our first cruise and it was a 7day. We did feel the ship, but didn't get seasick. We took Bonine with us just in case though. The movement felt like a slow rolling earthquake to us!

Although my first was only a 4-day, we loved it so much we did the 7 day last month and are going back next year!

On my first cruise, I got seasick myself (but only for 1 day) and I tried Dramamine and the seabands which didn't work for me. So this time, I went to my doc and got the "patch" for seasickness! I didn't feel a thing and will get them again next year!

Absolutely not. A 7 day is awesome. The ship is so smooth, it's "almost" like you're in a hotel. We have cruised 4 times with many different people and not one of them has gotten sea sick. My first 7 day Cruise was my first cruise ever and the only problem I had with it being 7 days was that I did not have access to my fantasy hockey team, which was in 1st place at the time. It caused me to slide into 2nd. But now the ship has internet access and Directv so they should get NHL Centre Ice, (if yo go during this coming NHL season). They have a nice sports bar where you can find a tv, ask the attendant to put on whatever game you want (Go Leafs) and enjoy.

Being from California that probably made you feel right at home. :rotfl2:
