First off, there's 4 of us, me, DW, 2 daughters (11 & 7).
We are DVC members and have visited the parks for many, many years but have never done the cruise. We decided this would be the year (although we followed this cruise w/ a 6 night stay at BWV :) ).

Here are my thoughts or things we did that might help other rookies:

Service:
The service was absolutely A++++. From the guy handing out "wipes" before each meal to the cruise director, I really felt like this was their only cruise of the year. And speaking of wipes, the ship really seemed in good shape and appeared spotless.

Our Stateroom #6560:
A great room. Right by the elevators/stairs at midship. The verandah was a smart choice. Not that we spent a lot of time out there, but it was nice to have the curtains drawn and see the view. The bed was very big (my 7 yr old actually slept w/ us on the last night).

Food:
We sat at our own table, no table mates. The food was a B+/A. We did not eat at Palo's. The meals were very good and I don't mean to give the impression they were not. The desserts were pretty good, not great. However, we never went hungry and coupled with our outstanding wait staff, we always walked away from each meal very satisfied.

Nassau:
For the Nassau day, none of the excursions really seemed to thrill me for the price. Instead, my plan was to visit Nassau and go back and spend time on the ship (considering this was our first cruise). First off, Nassau was everything I read, a lot of people hawking products which is great if you’re looking to buy something. Not really our thing. However, thanks to this board, I read about the British Colonial Hilton which you can walk to. I figured we’d check it out. We walked through the lobby, back to the pool and a nice man asked us if we wanted to use the pool & the beach. It was $15 for adults and $5 for kids. I paid the $40 and we changed into our suits in the restrooms. Considering the small size of the pools on ship, it was fun to swim in the pool and the ocean.. The water isn’t as pristine as CC, but the temp was right and it had that blue hue. We used the kayak and the place was clean and pretty empty (not many hotel guests or cruisers that day). We did not eat there since the Wonder had much better food (and not to mention free). The Hilton guy said we could come back after lunch if we wanted (we never did).

CC:
Castaway Key is in a word awesome!!. Disney really does it right. I recommend the snorkeling. Even my 7 year old who is a novice swimmer was able to really enjoy this. I guess if you’re an experienced diver you might be disappointed, but for us beginners, it was great.

The Shows.
We saw 3 of the 4 shows (We missed the Dreams show on the last night, too tired). Rich Pupura (?) was the best, Golden Mickeys 2nd, and Hercules 3rd. We had the 5:45 seating and saw the 8:30 show. The theater is great (the seats were actually too comfy, as I slept through most of Herc). The shows are all B'Way like. They also showed Ratatolllie (sp?) here which was a great surprise!! I watched the 3rd Pirates movie one night which started at 11pm.

Misc:
My kids did not do the kids clubs; they just hung with us which was fine. The Pirate party was fun along with the Sailing off party. The CM’s really try hard to get everyone involved. I didn’t buy one picture from Shutters. I guess I’m either too cheap or lazy.
Check in and check out is so organized it’s crazy. When you leave, I would recommend using the guy to help find your luggage and bring to your car (it’s worth the tip). I have no idea if any of us are prone to sea sickness but except for the last night, the seas looked like a lake.
We were all fine and had a great time. I can see why people cruise w/ Disney multiple times, they really run a fantastic trip.

Sounds like you had a great time - I am in AWE that you managed to escape without one picture from Shutters!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your cruise! We were on the cruise immediately following yours (July 5-8). Wasn't Christian (Cruise Director) THE BEST! We thought he did a fantastic job.

Disneychic,
I read your report and enjoyed reading it. I'm sorry your sailing away party was inside because when we left that morning (around 8am) it was raining hard. As a matter of fact, I woke up at 4:30am and watched the ship dock at 5:15 in a terrific rainfall. I saw your pictures and I'm glad the rest of your trip had great weather. As far as Christian goes, he was outstanding!!!! I hope Disney keeps this guy because he is a real asset.

Sounds like you had a fablous time...we are going in Nov and are so excited...we have a balcony room too...glad the bed is big...we didn't want to put either of our dd's on the pull down...and our youngest always ends up in our bed by the end of the night anyhow. Thanks for the review:goodvibes

I've really enjoyed your report! The British Colonial Hilton sounds like a great idea - how far is the walk? It will just be my son & I - don't want to wander to far around Nassau by myself.
Thanks!

I would agree, the comedian/magician was great. Although did he do any magic?

At Nassau, we did the glass bottom boat. Our first choice was the dolphin encounter, but it was sold out. I emailed the dolphin place myself and they wrote back and said if you didn't book 3 months prior, you weren't going to have a space.
The glass bottom boat was more fun than I thought. We had a tour guy who called himself "Tony Baloney." He talked continually for 2 hours and for some reason had to mention Anna Nicole Smith at least 2 dozen times. But everyone on the boat enjoyed themselves and the views were fantastic.
At Castaway Cay, we did the Stingray encounter. My wife and I enjoyed this more than my kids, they were petrified of these creatures. (we had done this with wild rays in Grande Cayman and wanted to share this adventure with the kids). My daughter (5yo) went to feed the rays and she screamed as if the creature bit off her hand. Several kids would not go back into the water after her incident, but it was nothing.

The food, service and shows were excellent. My daughter loved the kids program and wanted to spend everyday there. I have a picture of her in her pirate makeup... it's hysterical. My son didn't want to go from day 1. We told him to try it for 1/2 hour and if he didn't we would pick him up (the give you a pager and it says your child wants to escape, when you need to pick up your child). When I went to drop off the pager the last night, he was practically in tears that he didn't get to stay.

I have been on Carnival, Royal Carribean and Disney, and although I have never had a bad cruise, Disney is hands down the best.

Saying all that I do have a complaint. The floor at the Goofy pool. It got so hot, my daughter and I both got burn blisters from walking from our chair to the pool. When I complained to a cast member, it was ignored. The Mickey pool has a protective mat around the pool, I don't know why this isn't around the Goofy pool.

Here is my helpful hint if you are going. GET TO THE THEATRE AT LEAST 20 MINUTES BEFORE THE SHOW STARTS!! or you will be sitting in the back.

The cruise was well worth the money and I think we will do it again in a couple of years.

Im glad you all had a great time thanks for your report. I cant wait for my trip:goodvibes ;) :)

Sage,
The walk to the British Colonial is short. It's just to the right of the Straw Market, follow the shore line. I have a map somewhere and I'll send the link if I can find it.

Pharmhand,
I agree, he didn't do much magic, but his stage presence was fantastic.
I agree about the floor around the Goofy pool, I also got extremely burned as I ran to a wet surface. I also thought it was unusual that the Mickey pool floor has a cooler carpet feel and the goofy pool did not.

Just curious, how did you find the seas compared to other cruises you've been on? It looked like a lake to me except for the last night from 7pm ish on. No one in my family felt sick at all but I have a feeling we weren't really tested on this cruise (in regard to rough seas).

It was very smooth. The last night was the roughess that I have seen on any cruise, but it still was not bad. My neice was very close to being sick, but I gave her some meclizine and she was fine.
Our waiter told us it is usually rough in that area because it is where the Atlantic shelf meets the Caribbean. It is odd that on our last Disney cruise (8 years ago) the water was smooth also and both times I heard crew members state that they had never seen it like that.

On cruises I have been to the western and southern Caribbean, you could not even feel the boat move at all.

Did you go to the Castoff party? When the cruise director said Bon Jovi was going to perform on the cruise, I believed him!! I felt like an A$$ when I asked where it was going to be, and they told me it was only a parody of them!

I did go to the Cast Off party but I missed the Bon Jovi reference. I would have believed it also.:goodvibes

It was a great trip, I can'y believe only 2 short weeks I was in CCtoday:sad2:

Thanks cmcvean, I hoped it helped.

Pharmhand,
I used some of my DVC points for this trip so I running short and a trip next year won't fit in the budget. To be honest, I actually might think about cruising next time when it's cooler here in NJ. For example, maybe President's week or during the April week (my wife's a teacher and kids in school). Maybe April 2009? I would do this 4 night cruise again.
