1BR Villas?

I know what you're saying and respect it, but for us it's exactly why we bought the points in the first place - so we don't have to pay cash for the 1BR rooms we want. We bought the points, we have the points, we pay dues on the points, so we're booking with the points. It's not horrible at all. For us, it's how we enjoy a more magical stay. We'd never pay cash for a 1BR villa....

Sometimes, yes, you're not going to be getting a lot of value out of your points for 1 BRs - I'm not so sure I'd go so far as to say you'll save money by paying cash rates. More that it will take you a lot longer to recoup the upfront cost of your points.

If you have an AP and want a SSR 1 BR this summer, you can get it for under $15/point. You'd still be getting value from using your points (assuming you aren't using VB points :-)), but not a whole lot. OTOH, if I booked cash for my CCV 1 BR this past February (assuming I could have secured it on cash), I would have paid close to $32/point. Sure, it isn't resort view studio in December levels of value, but I think it is a plenty fine level of financial value.
That's fair as long as both of these two things are true:
  1. You never pay cash for a Disney stay; you only stay if you have the points to cover it in full.
  2. You only ever stay in 1-bedroom villas.
So long as both of those things are true, then yes using points for a 1BR makes sense. But if you occasionally run out of points and need to supplement with cash or if you might have an occasional Studio or 2BR stay sprinkled into your itinerary, it would be wise to be more strategic about *which* trips you paid for using which method.

Just stop by any of the DVC booths on property and ask, they will get you a tour within 15 minutes.
When I did my DVC investigation trip I was trying to make an advance plan on where to go and when. They just made it really hard. But I was mainly trying to go to open tour times to not waste a guides time since I already have a guide.

Let's use a more reasonable resort. Summer is usually pretty easy to book BC 1 bedroom. How's those value compared to cash?
I haven’t run that numbers there specifically, but, in general, summer has become one of the least valuable times to use your points across the board because Disney is discounting cash rates so heavily.

Personally, I think we need points charts adjustments. Summer should not cost more points than almost all periods in October/November/December.

I'm fine with the super hot months being overpriced on the points chart 🤣

Because it’s an unpleasant time to visit Florida theme parks. Lol
For me it's much like childbirth. While in the thick of it I am like never again. I am miserable. Never again. Now it's just a distant memory of the miserable and all Im left with is Disney love.

Me to my husband "Lets go to WDW this Summer" He is trying to remind me that I told him to not allow me to do that again.

Go to your local spa or gym and sit in the sauna for 2 hours straight. Then make your informed decision!!

If I paid cash then I would only be at value resorts or off site and I would never be staying deluxe. I want a kitchen and a washer/dryer in the room; therefore, 1 bedrooms are worth the cost of the points for me. They may not be for you, but they are for me.

Can totally relate. We’ve done July and August and this year we’re doing June. I’m like, June will be a touch cooler, right? LOL. It will be hot, I’ll be drenched in sweat, but we’ll still have fun 🙂.

The words I wrote don't justify anywhere near this level of defensive response. Have a magical day.

I’ve taken my fair share of summer trips after saying never again. It’s just a different touring style and I don’t like it as much. I booked a Wild Africa Trek one year and had to call and cancel while walking back to my room at YC from DHS because I thought I would probably pass out and die on the trek 🤣 My summer trips usually come out of FOMO and wanting to experience new rides/attractions. Disney still focuses on having new lands and attractions ready for summer. The Disney demand vs DVC demand is just different.

The daily rain is also problematic for me.

I believe less than 5% of cash bookings pay the
published "rack rates" used to evaluate points vs cash debate
