AKV and BLT are having the 1br with 5 person capacity does anyone know if they plan on adding the "sleeper" chair to the other resorts? I would think OKW could easily sleep 5 with the size of them compared to the rest of the resorts? WOW that would really add value to OKW if the 1br would sleep, the lower pts and size!!!

Nothing has been said AFAIK. There may be enough room in the OKW 1 bedrooms to have the sleeper chair, but IMHO, there is not enough room in the BWV (and thus probably not the BCV, VWL or SSR, either).

The space problem is opening both the sleep sofa and the chair at the same time - just not enough room in the older resorts (except maybe OKW).

I doubt they CAN add the sleeper chair to the other resorts. It has nothing to do with space - most likely since they got permits & everything based on 4 in that size villa, they can't change it. Besides, if you're putting 5 people in a 1br, wouldn't you want a 2nd bathroom?? It's not much of a vacation with 5 people sharing 1 bathroom (and 4 towels...eww) :confused3

Not if it is just my Wife and I with our 3 young kids. Right now we would be fine in a 1br and I understand it would be hard for mousekeeping to put in another bathroom but you don't need imagineers and permits to add a few extra towels :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good point on the permits they had and what that would take....I don't know it that is an issue or not.

It is doubtful they will retrofit existing resorts with a sleeper chair. That would "substantially change" the contract limits and furnishings, and may not be legal under FL timeshare law.

I don't see anything illegal about adding a sleeper chair to older units. There would be no obligation to increase the written occupancy limits. Adding a sleeper chair would just add another bed to the room. The stated occupancy could remain 4 in a One Bedroom--it would just be a little more comfortable for many parties to sleep.

I'm sure there is enough wiggle room in the laws for improvements to the property. No, you cannot go from a king bed down to a queen, but additions are certainly allowed. (We better hope so or we'll never get flat panel TVs or other minor changes in the next 40 years.)

Functionally if DVC really wanted to do it I think they could find a way. If the sleeper chair wouldn't fit in the living room, it would almost certainly fit in the master bedroom. (Not an ideal situation, IMO, but I'm sure some would love the idea.)

Or, they could borrow the Murphy Bed concept from the VGC design. Flat panel TVs will happen someday and it would be fairly easy to replace the large living room armoire with the Murphy Bed and new TV.

But since the existence of the sleeper chair was revealed in the AKV designs 2 years ago, there hasn't been much outcry for them to appear in the older resorts. In the end I think DVC's stance on the issue might go something like this: "we don't get many requests for that modification so it isn't high on our priority list."

I think it's more likely that DVC will become more strict for the current 1 BR that are designated as sleep 4 than to expand them to sleep 5 as the 1 BR from AKV and BLT come on board. I'm not even sure they can do that legally.

But when you call MS, and ask if 5 are allowed in a 1 bdrm, they say yes- it is absolutely allowed, you just have to provide your own bedding. I think it would be fabulous if they put those chairs in everywhere, as we are a family of 5. :thumbsup2 And I thought a BWV 1 bdrm could definitely fit a sleeper chair- I said so to DH when we were there this past November. Don't know about the others.... Anyway, who knows what their plan is, but I know if I were ever asked, my vote would be a great big YES!!!!!!:goodvibes

They have the sleeper chair at AKV Jambo House (except value rooms) that allow 5 with only 1 bathroom. I made a reservation this week for a BWV 1 bedroom and I said to the cm that I wasn't sure how many were coming, just to put down me for now. He told me I could have 4 plus a child under three or I could have 5 but no extra bedding (I didn't even ask him, he just volunteered the information).
