Hi was just reading about the above fire in Sept 1996, on Wikipedia. Does anyone know why it started or which bits were damaged? Was the hotel closed for a while?? Just interested?

Also I know some of the Montana rooms are being refurbished-all of them? Do you think I could request a refurbished room for when I go in Dec?

Thanks!

Hundreds Flee a Fire At Disneyland Paris
Published: September 8, 1996
Fire heavily damaged portions of a sprawling hotel at Disneyland Paris early today, forcing 1,500 guests to flee, some wearing little more than pajamas.

Nine people sought treatment for smoke inhalation and four of them, including two pregnant women, were hospitalized for observation, said Annie Jan, a Disney spokeswoman.

The blaze began at 6:45 A.M. in the 1,000-room Sequoia Lodge, said Mark Webb, a Disney spokesman. It was extinguished three hours later. Many guests were awake, getting ready for the park's 8 A.M. opening, said the spokeswoman. They were allowed to buy new clothes at the park's shops at Disney's expense and were booked into other hotels surrounding the theme park and in the area, she said.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the fire, which destroyed much of the roof and damaged dozens of rooms, Mr. Webb said.

This was all I can find about the fire. I'm not sure that the whole hotel closed as I'm 99% sure that only the Newport Bay Club has been closed during DLRP's history but I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)

The first winter the hotel opened in the earlu 90s due to low number of people visiting DLRP (or Eurodisney as it was then!)

I would like to know this too.

It was winter 1992. Due to the low occupancy of the (then) EuroDisney Hotels the decision was made to shut the Newport Bay Club Hotel over the winter months. It re-opened in the spring and there have been no other Hotel closures since that

Quote from Wikipedia

Despite these efforts, in May 1992 daily park attendance was around 25,000 (some reports give a figure of 30,000) instead of the predicted 60,000. The Euro Disney Company stock price spiralled downwards and on July 23, 1992, Euro Disney announced an expected net loss in its first year of operation of approximately 300 million French francs. During Euro Disney's first winter, hotel occupancy was such that it was decided to close the Newport Bay Club hotel during the season. Initial hopes were that each visitor would spend around US$33 per day, but near the end of 1992, analysts reckoned spending to be around 12% lower.[13]

I remember the Cheyenne being closed for a few weeks in April 2005 for re-fit. We were staying across the river at the Santa Fe and DW and I took a walk around one evening. It was very spooky seeing it deserted, it was like a wild west ghost town.

As they have been refurbishing the hotel since at least Easter 2007 I think most if not all the rooms will be completed by then.
