Hello everyone! I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or what but I need help. For my performing arts club's annual banquet this year they decided to make it 80s themed. I ordered a vintage 80s dress off of ebay to wear to it but I don't know how to accessorize. This is where I need your help.

This is the dress: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-80s-Pun...3QQihZ014QQcategoryZ48870QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I know I'm going to wear a pair of white pumps but I don't know anything else. I'm sixteen by the way.

Thanks in advance.:cool1:

You need big jewelry (chocker, earrings and bracelets). Preferable something chunky (I think Target has some). Preferably the bracelets should be shaped like a square or have edges on it.

I am seeing Madonna......Cyndie Lauper......

Don't forget BIG hair and frosty blue eyeshadow! Rent an 80's movie like Breakfast Club, Better Off Dead, or Pretty In Pink...you'll get some ideas! Also, Nylons to match the shoes.

I would look up some old pics of Madonna too. That will give you an idea. Lot's of bracelet's (those little rubber one's that come in all different colors) You definitely have to have fushia lipstick and big hair!

Check out this site http://www.80srewind.net

Have fun

I'd go with big poofy bangs (if you have them) and a big white satin flower in your hair. Man, I wish I could find my prom picture (1989). It'd at least be good for a laugh.

Oh how it pains me to see the words "vintage" and "80s" in the same sentence. (giggle)

Have a great time at your party.

i was a teen in the late eighties  and i remember the white fingerless lace gloves, very long strands of pearls (sometimes tied in a knot), big hoop earings and lots of bangle bracelets. oh, and fuschia lipgloss

the dress is neat! have fun!

UGH!!!! I'll come up with some suggestions, but first I have to get over my shock at having anything from the 80's referred to as "vintage." I graduated from high school in '83 and college in '87. Seems like just yesterday.

Anyway, big movies then...... Flashdance, Top Gun. Even as a teen, I wasn't into pop culture, sorry. However, the one thing you absolutely must have is.... BIG hair. Seriously, the bigger and more hairspray the better. Punk was becoming "in" then, but not for the occassion and dress you have. Oh, also think of Princess Diana. She married Charles in the 80's and was also considered very fashion conscious and fashion forward. Looking at some (okay I'll say the word) OLD photos of her might give you some great ideas, too.

That dress is so like the one I wore to a formal when I was seventeen!! It was a different colour though and I absolutely loved it. Now, I had short hair then, really short of one side and longer by about three to four inches on the other. Kind of a sweep affect. I looked great, I know I did!!! Those were the days!!!

Yes, you have to wear nylons, even though no one wears them now. I did not wear a lot of jewellery, but I did wear two or three watches on the same wrist. I kid you not. A swatch watch was one of them, if I remember correctly! I remember I did wear earrings, but three holes in one ear and four in the other. NOthing to outragous, but they all matched. Oh, and black sunglasses, Top Gun style.

If you go the Madonna route try to get a pair of lace kid gloves, the kind that only go to your wrist. A white pair would match the dress. The white shoes are good to go. And if your hair is long make it big and pouffy!!

Have a super time!!

Oh, oh, oh, I just remembered. The 80's were the decade of the big bow. You must have an outrageously large bow to put in your big hair. Sometime it was so large that if you were looking at a girl straight on, you could see the ends of her bow sticking out beyond her head. Gosh, I hope that makes sense.

You might want to consider white fishnets over regular hose.

Anne

Thanks for all the ideas everyone!

I'm super excited!

Kinda like Minnie!!!:lmao:

Gosh, I think I have some 'vintage' 80's dresses up in the closet.

Guess I shouldn't wear them anymore??

Ohhh, how funny. I guess what was a favorite from the 80's depended upon where you were from. Since I was from NYC this is what we did. Oddly, I wore an almost identical dress to a Prom in 1985. I'm reporting what I see in my picture. All our clothes looked like the people on "Saved by the Bell".

DFs & I all wore lots and lots of rinestone jewelery. Our earrings looked like tiny candelabras and our necklaces looked like jeweled lace. I think I even had a matching rinestone watch. DF wore a 3 layer pearl choaker with a matching watch and pearl & rinestone matchin earrings. My satin thin heeled pumps/shoes were dyed to match the dress and tan leggs nylons were a must-have. My purse was rinestone too.

Makeup was way too thick with the lines of color drawn in from the covergirl instructions on the 4 colors box (I had them in blue, green and purple...the color of the decade). MAscara was always black f0or drama. We would use black eyebrow pencils warmed with a match to get it to stay without smearing as eyeliner. Lipstick was deep red liner with bubble-gum pint frosted lip gloss. Cheeks were always blushed.

All the girls had their hair pulled into a twist and bobby pinned up. Then the hair on top was curled with an iron and teased to the appropriate height. After it was in place out came the 'Stiff Stuff' HAirspray/Spritz and it was glued in place.

I hope you have fun at your party. I wonder if I can convince our friends to do a 80's BBQ for Memeorial Day.

great dress! I graduated high school in '88 and I too feel ancient when referred to as retro!
anyways........the 80's were a rockin good time!!! think go-go's, madonna, for fashion advice!
~I agree, big hair and a big white bow in your 'do!!!!!!
~white pumps and suntan nylons!
~and don't forget about some frosty makeup---frosty blue/pink eyeshadow (yes, 2-3 colors were THE style--1 color for lid, 1 for eye crease and 1 for the brow area) don't forget that super light, frosty pink lip stick/gloss too--load it up!
~white lace gloves would be great
~big plastic white earrings--claire's has some--as well as the bracelets and I agree with the "3 watch" look--go swatch! (maybe salvation army or a second hand store--they don't need to work so don't waste money on batteries--you just need the "look" of 2-3 swatches!

have a blast!

LOL! DH and I were just talking about this! He's wearing three Swatches in his senior picture -- and they're very prominently featured. The photo looks like a Swatch advertisement. LOL!

Anyway, he mentioned recently that his parents begged him not to wear the three watches in the picture because he'd hate it later. But he was convinced that it would be in style forever. (chuckle). I don't think he "hates it" (at least not yet), but it does look sort of funny now.

Take me back to my "childhood" --ok to my teen years. I can't remember that far back to tell you what to wear with it but I wanted to tell you to have a great time!

OMG -- I'm now vintage! :scared1:

I guess I'm considered vintage as I was a teen in the 80's. I would agree with the big poofy hair and fingerless gloves. I used to wear those jelly bracelets not even sure if they still make those anymore. I know Madonna used to wear those all the time.
