Abby is adorable. She and Alex are almost the same age!! Do you go to the "New Mom's" thread at all? You should stop by.

Michelle - I love it!! In his ears!! Alexander is obsessed with this ears lately. He keeps opening up the bathroom draw, getting his 'baby' q-tips and putting one in each ear and running off!! It's cute but sooo dangerous!

This is Izzy on her 1st birthday last year. Her older sister made a cake that looked liked a bathtub with a duckie. The duckie was the smash cake. She really enjoyed it

Great photos - adorable kids!! :thumbsup2

Absolutely! Some of my most treasured pictures are my three kids decimating their first birthday cakes. No encouragement was ever necessary.

I don't like it at weddings, either, but that is very different to me.

Okay, we agree on way too many things! (except politics! :rotfl: )

We didn't do the cake smash at our wedding, but everyone thought we would. So, we geared up with a giant cake each, cocked our arms back, aimed at each other, and then quickly swung our arms at each other and stopped and politely fed each other lovingly. I've never head such a loud booooooing in my entire live but we loved every second of it.

Thanks!! I went on the new moms thread when Abby was first born but have not been on in a while....I think I will join you though :)

We had one for my neice's first birthday, but she didn't want anything to do with it. She looked at it and that's it.

OMG, your children are SOOO cute with the cake all over!!!!

Is it hard to clean them back up again or do you just take them out back and hose them off? :lmao:

We just cut a piece of the birthday cake and then the birthday boy mauls it as he sees fit.

I have a friend who gave her baby the whole cake--the only cake she had--the kid mauled it then she served it to the guests. Gross! I had to pass on that.

We had "smash" cakes for both our DD (now 11) and DS (now 8).

She loved it and totally made a mess and still does.

He loved it too, but would not make a mess to save his soul, and still won't.

She love(s) to play in the mud, him oh no why would anyone want to be dirty on purpose :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'm going to find those pictures now and scan them to share.

Thanks for bringing back memories from many years ago :goodvibes

Oh, the boys so got into their cakes. We just gave them a piece of the sheet cake. Alex went for the "hold it in your hand and squish it" approach, while Zach went for more of the "pick it apart into pieces" angle. Alex discovered the bottom of the cake first before he found the frosting, which I thought was pretty funny. Both of them LOVED their cake and had so much fun with the mess. :)

A friend of mine had a Winnie the Pooh cake for her twin girls' first birthday. It had bright blue frosting on the edges. I strongly warn people against that - that stuff turned those girls into Smurfs! :rotfl: They had it everywhere - even in their eyelashes, as they were getting tired and rubbing their eyes. She said there were some spots that had a blue tint for a while after that. But boy, did they have fun!

I guess I am the one person who won't be allowing it... I know everyone thinks it is cute, but for some reason I find it gross.

I am a total hypocrite though... I let (ok well I didn't let, but I knew he really wanted to so I gave him the choice of doing it, and going straight to the mall the next morning to COACH so I could purchase whatever I wanted or feeding it nicely and not giving me a shopping spree.) my hubby smash cake in my face at the wedding...

I think my thing with the first bday cake is how it gets all gooey and slobbery and mushy between their fingers... the actual on the face part doesn't bother me. I don't like to have my hands dirty though so thats probably why I don't like it because I can just imagine what their little hands must feel like...

I am childless right now so I guess that will probably all change once I have one of my own...

Katie's cake was a sheet cake with two lady bugs on top. One was designed to be removed for her. We gave her half of it.

My daughter wouldn't touch the cake. She actually stuck her finger in the icing, tasted it, make the  face, then started to cry. I tore off some of the actual cake for her, and she liked that part. She just wanted NOTHING to do with the icing. She actually continued that way until around her 5th birthday, where she suddenly found the wisdom of frosting. :)

I admit that we put her hand in the frosting and put a little on her face for a picture. :)
