I'm looking for a decent 19" flat panel monitor for Mrs Y's Dell laptop. Trying to edit photos on the 15.4" screen on the lappy is making her cross-eyed and she has directed YEKCIM to find her a good external (VGA) panel. I've looked at several 19" panels, but honestly have no idea about which one(s) would be best in terms of color fidelity. I assume that a 24 bit / 16.7 million colors panel would be best but beyond that, I'm stumped. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to brand/model?

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I have the Dell 19" ultrasharp monitor. I;ve never tried calibrating it, so don't know how far out from true it is, but it's a very nice screen...

On the technical front, I have found that DVI connections give a marginally, but noticeably sharper picture than VGA. So I'd suggest you check your PC to see exactly what connectors it has on it, and make sure that the monitor matches...

Also, I have found the USB hub in the monitor useful for plugging memory sticks into. And if I were doing it again, I would order the Dell sound bar, which puts the computer speakers into the monitor, just like a TV...

Alan, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, the laptop has no DVI; only VGA, so I'm stuck with it. One day, I'm going to get a 22-24" panel for my desktop rig, which has an X800XT All In Wonder card with DVI-I connection but will have to stick with VGA on the laptop.

Is the yellow "S-video" jack better than the VGA port for exporting normal work from a laptop. (Not ceccesarily a video playing)?

I have converter for the DVI output on my computer so that I can hook up a VGA (I guess thats what a regular old monitor is). So I would assume that the reverse would be true as well.

I currently have a 19" ViewSonic. LOVE it, but its not wide screen. I think for using some photo editors like Lightroom that a wide screen would be much easier to use. Our other computer (which I seem to be using more often now, because of its location) has the plain old 15" 10 year old monitor. So I know what you mean.

My next computer (which will be ordered sometime over the next 6 weeks or so) will have 22" HD widescreen monitor.

I got the 19" at BJ's about a year and a half ago for $180.

Other than this, I know nothing else about monitors.

The yellow S-video jack is for connecting to a regular TV. You do not want to use this for computer-type stuff...
