1820 Society

Do they still have the 1820 Society on board? And can a 17 year old go to 1820 Society activities or would they have to stay in Vibe? Asking for a friend...seriously.

They had 1820 Society events once or twice a day on my recent Magic cruise.

It would be difficult for a 17 year old to fully participate because many events were in adult areas (such as in Cove Cafe and in O'Gills at night). If there is an event in an area that is open to everyone, a 17 year old could go to meet people, but would need to be aware that if the group moves on to an adult location, he or she wouldn't be able to follow.

What kind of events do they have? Curious, as we have a 17-yr old. So when he moves on from Vibe (which he loves) next year, I can tell him some of the things they do with 1820 Society. Probably a lot of low-key stuff, I would assume.

DD19 did the 1820 society on the Magic last summer. She only went to a couple of the events and never really clicked with anyone.

From my navigators on our cruise:

• Day 1, 10PM is the first meeting w/ free non-alcoholic drinks--usually in Cove Cafe or Signals....it's usually called 'blend it, stir it, taste it.' (Night 1 is the important one to go to as they'll decide what types of things they want to do, as well as just meeting up with that age group for the first time.) After it ended they all went to Fathoms to see the Adult magic show--DD saw DH and I there and decided to come sit with us instead of with the other kids.
• Day 2, at sea: 12:45PM Lunch at Cabanas, 5PM Crafts in O'Gills
• Day 3, port day, 11:15PM Dodgeball Challenge
• Day 4, port day: 5:30PM Game Challenge at O'Gills, 10PM Smoothie Time at Cove Cafe
• Day 5, port day: nothing
• Day 6: port day: nothing
• Day 7: at sea: Noon Lunch at Cabanas, 5:30PM Ice Cream Social at Eye Scream; 11PM Farewell at Fathoms.

From looking at the navigators for my last post, it is doubtful the 17 yr old could go to many activities. Most are held in Adult only areas.

Each group meets up the first night with a DCL CM who helps facilitate the group. At that meeting they play what they want to do.

When our son did it, they met up a few times for lunch, participated in the veggie derby (like a pinewood derby, for those who know what that is), went to several of the adult comedy shows. And just "hung out" together.

I talked to a 19 year old on our last cruise, who reiterated what is said above - on the first night they plan the rest. So there are set things in the navigator, but there are a bunch of other things that get planned by the group on the first night. I think the subsequent scheduled meet ups are mostly to catch anyone who missed the first one. And of course it will depend how many people there are on board who qualify, and what they are interested in.

DCL is very strict w/ ages, please respect their policies.

The ONLY age exceptions I have read about are the ones that are actually turning 18 while on the cruise. Once they turn 18 they are no longer allowed in Vibe. And, until they are actually 18, they are not allowed in the Adult Only areas.

Thanks to everyone who shared some of the activities. I have twins who will be 18 on our cruise but their friends who are going with us will not be. I have been a little nervous for my duo because they can't go into the kids clubs with their friends. I knew about the meeting the first night (and I have told my children they will be going to that) but didn't have any idea of the possible activities they may have. I can totally see my duo getting into dodgeball, smoothies and maybe even the craft!
