18 year old in a hotel without parent

My daughter is graduating high school and for a grad present I was thinking of sending her to WDW (with a friend).

Can an 18 year old stay in a room alone?

You need to check the individual hotel. Some hotels won't rent to under-21s and some will. Each hotel makes that determination.

Last year my daughter and her friend stayed at Pop. They made the reservation. It was so strange to meet them in a park. But it's nice to be Freebirds.

There are some hotels that require you to be 21 years old in order to check in so it does make sense to double check, just like most rental car places won't rent to someone under 21 (or even 25).

18-21 is a tough age...technically adult, but in most cases unable to rent a car, drink or rent a hotel room

I know that's true. I was going to send my son on a cruise for his graduation present, but at 18 he can't be booked in a room without an older adult. My husband and I are ok with it because now we get to go. It is a little annoying though that he can't go on a cruise by himself.

Very strange for us, as here it is the legal drinking age.

18 to stay at any Disney owned resort. Remember, there are plenty of 18 year old CMs working and staying at the resorts.

I find this rather odd. When I graduated from high school I met my sister who was living in London and going to university there and we backpacked around Europe for a month. I hadn't turned 18 yet and I didn't have any problem renting hostel rooms or buying tickets without my sister's help.

Th age issues is very different in Europe. DD17 can do so much here independently, that she cannot in the US (largely because she cannot stay in a hotel, even if, for example, her flight were to be cancelled and strand her overnight at a connecting airport)

Unless they've changed their rules recently, Princess will allow 18 year olds to cruise without someone older in the room.

Princess requires that someone over 21 be in the room. Disney allows an 18 year old to sail without an older chaperon though

I'm not surprised that they changed it. Since they are owned by the same company as Carnival it makes sense that they have the same requirements.

I guess time really does fly. When DS#1 and his girlfriend went (He was 20 and she was 19) that was the only line they could sail on without a parent going with them. I just realized it was 12 years ago.

Wow, I never even thought of this before.

My DD is only a freshman in high school now, but she's been saying that she'd love to go to WDW with her friends for spring break of senior year (using our DVC). It just occurred to me that her birthday is in the summer, so she'll be 17 during spring break.

I guess she'll either have to wait until the summer to go with her friends or we'll have to go with them for spring break and get two rooms.
