18% Automatic Tip on Groups of 6+

hello!

i know it sounds pretty anal, but i just want to make sure we are prepared with tip money. does anyone know if the 18% is on the pre-tax total of food or after tax. for example, if the pre-tax cost is $50 and after tax is for example $58, is the automatic tip based on the $50 or $58?

The tip is on the pre-taxed amount.

Your bill would be:

$50.00 - Food
$3.25 - 6.5% Tax
$53.25 - Subtotal
$9.00 - Gratuity (18% of $50)
$62.25 - Total Bill
