we added our kids to our sprint plan...adding to plan is usually best way to go

In Best Buy, I saw Kajeet. The salesperson told me they bought up the disney phones, and they're a part of sprint???? (i think she said that).

anyway, it's pre-pay for the calls, so there's no surprise phone bills, and something like ten or fifteen cents a day to have the phone, and lots of parental controls, like who they can call, and who they can receive calls from, etc. I'm thinking of getting them for my 6 and 8yo's. it looked very interesting and kid friendly.

I would check w/ her school, most schools in our area don't allow students to carry cell phones.

Dd is in first grade and has a similar schedule. She has never needed to contact me herself...and if the school or before/after care needs to speak w/ me, they have my cell phone number (and have used it).

FWIW, Verizon has phones that have child/parent chaperone options on them.

Definitely check with your school before investing in a phone. My county prohibits students, regardless of grade level, from carrying a cell phone. If a student is caught with a phone out, it is supposed to be confiscated and a parent has to come to the school to get it back.

I have check and they are allowed...I prefer her to have the phone for piece of mind.

im in edwardsville il 30 min from st louis and our schools do not allow cell phones at school or un busses...if you have one it has to remain off at all times
