My 17 yr old son outgrows everything as fast as we put it on him. Buying a suit in advance is not a great option because he'd grow out of it before he'd ever wear it again.

Do they offer tux or suit rentals on board?

Cruiseline Formalwear is the company that Disney contracts with to provide formal wear rentals onboard.

The web site is <a href="http://www.cruiselineformal.com/prod_dcl_m.html">here</a>.

Somebody else may want to jump in here since I've never been on a Disney cruise, but I've been on 7 cruises on other lines - 6 of them with my son who is now 17. Without exception, only a very small number of men wear tuxedos (generally older men), and I've never seen a teenager in one. I think this is more prevalent on luxury cruise lines such as Celebrity. I truly don't think going to the expense of renting one is necessary! We pack a navy blazer for my son which he wears with the kacki (sp?) pants he wears every other night. On formal night, he also adds a dress shirt and tie. Quite frankly, the vast majority of male teens don't even dress to this level. The MINUTE dinner is done, the teenagers change right into their casual stuff, and off they go to roam the ship. It would be such a waste of $, and my bet is he would be the only one in a tux. My husband always wears a suit. Just my two cents!!!

I guess I've had very different experiences on my cruises.

Generally, on both formal and semi-formal nights, I've had the experience that the majority of males dress for the occasion. I think that suits are probably more common on these evenings than tuxedos, but, tuxes are well represented too.

And, I have seen younger guys in tuxedos and suits. In fact, I've even seen very little ones in a tux!

Personally, I think the formal and semi-formal nights are a blast onboard. You get to dress to the T's, enjoy great food, unsurpassed atmosphere, and superb company! I think a tuxedo would not only look great but add to the evening as well! This is especially true if the whole family is dressing up. It's just part of the fun of the Disney Magic!

Even Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald, and Chip and Dale will be in their tuxedos or formal dresses. How great is it to get pics where the Fabulous Five and your whole family will be in their best?

I say go for it HollyH! :D

Well, this is our first cruise and I suppose I should ask my son what HE wants to do ;) , but after seeing him in his tux for the Prom, I realized he cleans up pretty good and it would be nice to have he and my DH dressed to the nines! Beakman Place, here we come!

Of course ... you know if I ask him he'll be wearing khakis and a blazer!

Holly, Every family has it's own expectations. If you feel that having your son in a tux for pics, etc, is important, than by all means, insist!! I just wanted you to know from my experience as a Mom of a son the same age as yours! (and just as a frame of reference, mine is quite conservative - has no problem "dressing" appropriately as needed - Thank you catholic high school!!!!) Based on the comment above, Disney Cruise Line must be different, as we've been on RCCL 4x, Costa 2x and NCL 1x. If you are going to allow your son to leave you and hang out with his peers that night, just don't be disappointed if the tux comes off!! Have a blast - you and your son are going to LOVE cruising (mine wants no part of any other type of vacation)!!!!

I would never insist... but it would be a nice experience to have an evening where everyone is dressed to add (as Jason said) to the fun of the Disney Magic! As for letting him leave us for his peers... he's already informed us not to expect to see him until the ship docks! I'm HOPING we see him for dinner!!!!!! Well... I always have my DD (13)... she will have NO problem dressing up!

Hi HollyH,

We saw everything from tuxes to slacks and golf shirts. The adult men in our group wore black suits and ties that they owned as opposed to spending more $$ on a tux rental. My son (11.5 yo)wore black slacks, white shirt and black tie, too.

One of the sites or guides I read discusses something about dressing for dinner as adding to the theatrical aspect of the trip; I prefer not having high drama in my stateroom prior to dining.

HollyH, You'll have to LOL, as I just asked my DH and DS (whom both own tuxes) how they would feel about packing them for this cruise. They BOTH said, "why not??" Maybe there's egg all over my face??? After 6 cruises, I thought I was getting good at "minimizing" the bulk!!! Tux's don't fit into the picture!!!LOL...I'd like to get a better feel about this, as I stated earlier, maybe DCL is different from the average.....I will post another thread above to try and get to the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!
