Good morning!

Debra - Yes, I think I'm addicted to VMK! LOL! It is a lot of fun to me! :) I'll have to follow the Mon-Thurs rule, too! ;)

Kathy - I'm sure you are...but take your recovery one step at a time. I have had surgery before and I know hard it is to recover! Sending pixie dust your way! :wizard:

Tara - LOL! It always amazed me as a kid myself what my sister and I could use to create when we were playing house, school, store, etc. I piece of paper could be any number of things! Now a shoe for an animal bed...I don't think we tried that as kids! :) I'm so excited that your dress is fitting so well!

I'm off to run a ton of errands! Oh, the joy of spending money that I should not be spending, but saving! LOL! Oh, well! ;)

Have a great day everyone! :)

I just got back from shopping! This 'FREE' education at the public school is costing me as much as homeschooling!!! :earseek: Seems like there is so many thing to get. Their book fees were $120 each, then we HAD to have the "Titan" team T-shirts and Hoodies (of course), then we needed all this stuff for the locker (must look COOL) and then of course the school supplies. I just got back from picking up lunch stuff (my kids want to pack their lunches).

Then once school starts we there will be more money for the clubs/activities they are in......oh my! I hope this settles down soon. We are hoping to go to Mackinaw Island over Labor Day weekend, but we are not sure yet about the finances. It will be a quick trip, but we just don't have the time to take the girls places like we use to when we were homeschooling, so you have to make the most of time off.

How funny! I actually let my girls stay up last night until the 'park closed' (at midnight). I went to bed, but DD1 said that everyone went to the square on Main Street and danced around just as it was closing. Were you there?

It is raining here again (third day in a row), so both of my girls will probably be on VMK all day (one is there now, the other is still in bed--she is going to have a hard time on Thursday when she has to get up for school).

If there a way to tell my DD how to get to your exercise room? She has been asking me if there is a way to meet DIS people in VMK? (I know nothing about this thing myself, but they are SO into it).

can I join the club? 150 is my goal weight and i have a lot to go maybe this board could give me a little encouragement. I don't do well on "diets" so I'm just going to have to change the way I eat. I've cut out fried foods, breaded foods, snacking, soft drinks and just about anything that I KNOW is fatty. I don't need to lose a lot of weight at once if I could just lose a pound a week I'd be happy.

Welcome! So glad you are joining us! We are all in this journey together. We are not all following the same type of food plan (I am basically counting calories trying to keep it at 1200 a day), but we all are trying to get to our goal weight.

Your 1 pound a week is a good goal. At first it can come off faster, but 1-2 a week is a reasonable goal and expect weeks when the scale doesn't move at all as you body shifts and adjust. It isn't an exact science, BUT if you stick to it and give yourself plent of time, you will see great results!

Onward and Downward!

Welcome ashjohnson!!!! Always room for more people on the healthy living boat!!!

Tara-I can't wait to finally like how I look in vacation pictures!

Debra-Does it really "snow" on Main St.? That must be BEAUTIFUL!!!

Morning Everyone!!

DD21 got home safely from Spain..........I am sooooooooo relieved and happy to have her home again. :cloud9:

Only have about 10 more hours before we are off to see the MOUSE!!! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo Basically packed and ready to GO :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Leaving tonight and will be back late Friday night :cool1: :cool1:

Got on the scale and the starting weight is holding at 171 SO the goal this week is to maintain or even lose.

Major problem is portions - Kills me to pay that kind of money and I can't take the leftovers home. Going to try and split meals with one of my daughters. :goodvibes

Going to work on walking (that will be easy in WDW and wearing my pedometer), getting the water in (sometimes I forget while we are walking) AND trying to limit the number of Dole Whips I have (MY ALL TIME FAVORITE!!! :bounce: :bounce: )

August 20th is my D day for health and wealth :rotfl:

ashjohnson80 -
WELCOME!!
You have come to the right place. This is a great group for support!! Tells us alittle bit about yourself. :goodvibes :sunny:

Debra and Lisa - How do you access the VMK? I want to wander through it but don't know anything about it. :confused3 Help please!!

Debra - FREE EDUCATION HAH!!! DD17 is going to be a senior this year in high school. She only has 3 textbooks yet I had to pay $230 by the time fees were added in........Where are my real estate taxes going again!! :confused3 The money letting usually lets up mid fall - fund raising is a killer. Glad this is the last year of that.

Lisa - Spend in moderation as you eat in moderation.......WOW that was deep - need to follow my own rule :rotfl2: Congrats on the weight loss.....keep going.

Tara - Are you going to be able to send us a picture of you in the bridesmaid dress!! I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!! Your svelte body will OUTSHINE :flower: the dress..........Keep going.....keep walking. How is it going with the house?

Kathy - Glad to hear from you and that you are up and moving!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Pretty soon you will be good as new!!!! The more you move and return to your "normal" life the better you will feel. :teeth:

Jen - CONGRATS on the tag!!! It is soooooooooooo cute!! And you are going to WDW at one of my favorite times of the year!!!! How is the marching going along with your eating?

Maria - You and I are both going to try half portions in WDW!! WE CAN DO THIS!!

Reading back over the last few days posts has given me so much inspiration. I want to thank you all for sharing. This group means so much to me on many levels. It is good to know you are there :grouphug: :grouphug:

Bless you and talk to you soon.

Have a Magical Disney Day - I WILL!!

It isn't "real" snow, but they blow out this snow-like white stuff so it looks like it is snowing on Main Street. It isn't all day, they did it while we were there at the end of the day when everyone was leaving the park. It was beautiful!

Debra

I haven't really been marching lately-which is something I regret-but I now have the first sheet of Boheme *mostly* memorized!!

Thanks, Linda! My eating is going better. Today I actually had veggies and a 1/2 cup of macaroni (and I didn't even like it!!!!) Shocker! The veggies and "dip" were better than that macaroni and cheese!!

Have fun! I'm so excited...my trip seems light-years away! We are having a "culinary discussion and restaurant choice" meeting today so we can see where everybody wants to eat. How many more Disney things can I do to get ready? Any suggestions?

**I might have another veggie plate! I had two tomatoes sliced up, some celery sticks, and a dip made of Italian vinagrette with Parmesan in it!!! YUM!

It'll be beautiful anyway!

Anybody got a way to spread some Disney magic around before we leave? I'm not allowed to play the planning video in a continuous loop...I asked already!

I have never done anything with VMK, my kids figure this stuff out themselves; but here is the website that you use to enter the site. Lisa could tell you more details, but the first thing you have to do is set yourself up on the site (there was no charge--so far, they are still developing it):

http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/index?name=VMKHomePage

My kids love it! I have no idea how they can spend so much time on this thing!

LOL! OK, I will confess. I play the planning DVD during the day when I am home alone and doing house work. I like the OLD one better than the new one. I just enjoy listening to it in the background while I do stuff around the house. This summer, I haven't played it because I am never alone, but on Thursday when the girls go back to school, I will have it one!

Tomorrow on the Travel Channel at 10:00 am eastern (9:00 am central) they are showing the Disney Cruise special. It has been on before several times, but we watch it every time it comes one! It makes me 'homesick' for my ship!

Debra

Day 5: JFK meets with the secretary of defense, Robert McNamara, and the members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff before leaving on a scheduled campaign trip to Ohio and Illinois.

Day 5: Rats! The world did not stop turning so I could just focus on losing weight...I still have to take care of my family and job responsibilities. So, how do I do this when I'm so tired at the end of the day?

1) Don't be so tired at the end of the day! Go to bed at a decent hour. Last night I went to bed a half hour early. It's not much, but hopefully more rest is better.

2) Scheduling. My workout is on my calendar. Every time I work out I get to put a star on my calendar. I want those stars!

3) Do it Now Principle! The minute I get home, I head upstairs to change into my workout clothes. Do not pass go, do not open mail, do not feed kitties (that's ds's job anyway, I just feel sorry for them -- why? They can wait half an hour until he gets home!).

Jen -- We have a series of little activities planned to get us in the Disney mood, most taken from the Guide for Kids by Kids. We are having a special Disney dinner (hamburgers and ice cream), watching our favorite Disney movies, and making lists of what can and can't be missed. For me, I'm also looking at the menus at Allearsnet.com. I can get an idea of what's offered at each place we might eat, and kind of have a plan in my mind so I'm not thrown off track by something I've never heard of and must try. I can plan my meals for the day somewhat in advance, so hopefully I won't overeat too much over the course of an entire day. I envy you -- I'm sure we'll be buried in real snow at Christmastime. :cold:

Linda -- Have a fabulous time at the World! We are going to miss you again! We are definitely going to do this -- half portions here we come! And check in early next week so we know what a fantastic time you had! :wizard:

Ashjohnson -- Welcome! This is a great place for encouragement. :flower:

Debra -- Let me tell you about the fundraising costs in parochial school...it is one endless fundraiser from August to June, and we end up with clutter. I just give it away. I don't want 2 cases of candy bars in my house. Last year we gave them to our women's shelter, and that was a good use of them. I'd rather pay for them and not see them on my hips! My advice, buy the gift wrap -- at least it's more useful than any of the little trinkets, and the candy is just asking for trouble... :sad2:

Tara -- Woohoo! Congratulations on your progress in the bridesmaids dress! You are so going to do it! I am really proud of you. :cheer2:

Kathy -- So glad you're feeling better. Just keep drinking and don't try too much too soon. You are recovering, after all.

Lisa -- You go, girl! Great loss! You are doing fantastic. I wear a pedometer when I can, and it is a great motivator. When I see I just need a few more steps to hit a target, I will go for it, and I know you will too! :Pinkbounc

Once again, had a little incident with peanut M&Ms this afternoon. Oh well, more reason to get myself on the treadmill... I think I'm just packing too little in my lunch. 5 pts doesn't seem to satisfy me, and then I eat something I shouldn't. Tomorrow, more protein is going in the lunch box.

C'ya later!

Well, I talked to the director of the choir the girls are going to be in this year at Middle School. She mentioned in orientation about ALL the fundraisers AND she mentioned how one family prefers to just give a donation. Well, later I asked her to give me an idea of how much of a donation would be appropriate per girl because we do not want to do fund raisers. She, of course, can not tell me what to give, so she gave me a break down of cost and how much money it takes per child to operate the choir. We are going to give that amount for both girls and not do the fundraisers.

Now if they get into other activities I will have similiar talks with their coaches/directors so we an do the same thing with them. I really do NOT want to do fundraisers (I would rather EXERCISE! :rotfl2: ).

Debra

WELCOME Ashjohnson!!! OF COURSE we can squeeze you in here!! Why didn't you know we're getting smaller each week which leaves lots of extra room for newbies! :) And the more we cheer the more we lose so come on in and let's get losing! :)

Y'all who do the VMK thing amaze me..I'm so challenged when it comes to navigating on a computerized screen...I could drive from here to Canada without a map but don't send me to those rooms! :) I'd get stuck and no one would find me! ;) But they look sooo cool! :)

Linda, when are you at Disney? Hope you have a GREAT trip!!!!

Lisa, YOU are doing GREAT!!! Keep up that great work ethic!!!

Debra..I'm with you..flush the fundraisers and just tell me where to sign...life is too busy as it is, you can't be chasing donations for a product most people don't need...but I do always buy a roll of wrapping paper to help support anyone who asks (by the way, you must live within 30 miles of me to have me support...so no phone calls :earboy2: ) I really think sending your kids to school is harder than anything I do! I love my predictable days! :) Well, most are predictable! :)

Maria!! GREAT GREAT tips on getting to that exercise without stopping...that's how I feel in the morning..I'm on automatic, I roll out of bed brush my teeth put my shoes on (tinkle) and go out the door...yes, most days I sleep in my walking clothes so I don't have to think about it! :)

I did have a cheat today..couldn't resist the sour cream and onion potato chips...had 1/2 a grilled cheese on wheat for lunch and a slimfast...I need to eat a good dinner because I've had junk but I did get 2 hours of swimming in..well atleast moving around the swimming pool! :)

Off to football practice then to cook dinner...I hate late dinners!
Tara

Hi Again!

One last fundraiser story... when my DS was graduating from Kindergarten (does that sound right?!), the parents were responsible for paying for the ceremony/reception/gifts.

We had two choices -- 1) hold about 6 bake sales at the school so we could all buy each others contributions or 2) write a check. Even though there were a few diehard mothers who really wanted to do the bake sale, thank goodness the majority ruled!

The graduation was great -- we were able to get shirts made for the kids with a class roster on it, balloons for each child, a huge cake, diplomas, a goody bag, flowers and gift certificates for the teachers.

Now every year, a few mothers take up a collection at Christmas and buy a gift card for the teacher. It's great because we don't have to think about it, and the teacher gets something she can use, rather than 20 mugs...

I don't feel guilty at all about just writing a check whenever I can. It's less stressful for the entire family. I just wish there weren't so many events...but such is life.

Oh! And Jen, you are going to be so happy to get out of the cold and snow to go to Disney! What a wonderful memory that will be...have some hot chocolate for me :)

Maria

I know, Maria!!! I'm psyched. I made this huge paper chain (we have 120 days to go including today)...it takes up half of our dining room!! I'd drink hot chocolate, but I don't like it!!! I've never really liked chocolate. I will TRY it for you.

Smiles-let's keep forging the way into a new day!! Day 5's going swell!

Guys, what a great day yesterday! A Dis'er I've never met private messaged me (she must have seen a post I asked about driving from Huntsville to Orlando) and alerted me of a great fare sale out of Birmingham (about an hour away)...it was $30 one way non stop to ORLANDO!!!! WOW!!! We were planning on renting a car and driving and now we are flying for less than that and saving 20 hours of our vacation! :) I am just sooo tickled and now this trip really must go off...can't wait for that house to close on the 31st so I can breathe! :)

Did my walk this morning, my neighbor has been MIA since her weekend trip..so I've been able to go at a more relaxed speed...I only added 2 minutes but it was nice not to be in RAMBO mode! :) I stretched my slimfast scoop to last for breakfast today...it's just so easy to do a slimfast when you don't have time to fix breakfast and have 100 things to get done. But today's serving should scrape the bottom of that can and then I'm going to the grocery to stock up on good options for my foods.

Oh and on a personal note, my oldest daughter asked Jesus into her heart and is so excited to have picked out her own Bible to celebrate this decision. It's a big day for her and seeing a child come to this on their own is quite a thing. Thanks for letting me share!

Tara
