My 2010 T&C is in the shop. It was squealing in the back and shook when I put on the brakes. Get a call saying it needs new roters and pads. They say the pads are not bad still 8mm out of 12mm which is good but it is mostly the roters. With just 15,337 miles on it I think that is crazy. It is at the dealership because it is a lease vehicle. They can fix the back sound for about $99 but all of it would cost over $750. I am so mad. I don't drive a lot. It is not even 1 1/2 yrs old yet. We have taken 2 trips to Disney in it that is why it has as many miles as it does. I have leased many vans and have not ever had to put roters on any of them before our lease was up. I think they were bad to begin with and now I'm stuck with it. I called Chrysler and complained. They are supposed to get back to me within 24 hrs. If that doesn't work I'm going to the dealership to complain. I have been a customer there for over 16 years. I really like my van.

Does this sound wrong to anyone else? I asked the mechanics that I work with and they said it doesn't sound right. Has this happend to anyone else?

This happened to us on the Jeep Grand Cherokee we had. I don't remember the exact mileage, but it was under 20,000. It was the start of many things that went out on this vehicle at a very early age. On the brakes, I was told that I must be very hard on my cars. Yeah, right.

After this, we switched to Toyotas. My 4 Runner still has the original rotors with 200,000 miles on the vehicle now.

From what I have heard this is pretty common in Chrysler vans. My husbands coworker had 2 of them, and she had to put brakes on them almost once a year.

A new rotor is about $50 at an auto parts store. Even if you aren't handy you can probably find a local mechanic to replace the rotor and pads for the price of labor, maybe $50 tops.

Not right in general, but totally my experience with my Dodge. I am lucky to get a whole year out of brakes. It just eats them!

I have a 2010 Dodge Caravan. We also had to replace our pads and rotors at 20,000 .We called Chrysler after our mechanic said that this is a prior problem with there 2008-2009 models. We were told that they would reimburse us but after many phone calls we have an "approval" but have yet to see a check.

I wish that was the end of our problems but we are currently fighting with them yet again. We got our van a year ago this month and it has been in the shop for 80 days. Chrysler admits that it is a lemon but doesn't want to do anything about it. It is an ongoing fight.

I have heard the exact same thing, I know my brother's family had the same problem and it was unfortunately the start of a long line of issues :headache:. Good luck!

Yep, Chryslers eat brakes and rotors like candy. I've had nothing but brake and rotor problems with my Sebring.

Not to brag, or rub it in but, I just had new brakes and tires put on my 2006 Civic. I bought it Certified Used from a Honda dealer. It had 30,000 miles. I put 120,000 on it already, and LAST WEEK was the first brake job I had done on it. I did have to get new rotors in the rear, but that's A LOT of miles between brake jobs. The guy at the shop was shocked, and he does all the work on our cars. They are mostly highway miles, but still very impressive.

This was the second set of tires I put on the car, and I got 85,000 out of the last set--and they were not bald--just about right where they needed to be replaced.

60% of the braking is done by the front brakes. if you fronts are ok but the back is bad then the rear rotors were not made correctly. Go pick it up from the dealer and take it to anybody else and get the rotors changed out. Be done with it. If your hubby is handy he probably can change them himself. There must be a video some place on the web on how to change the rear brakes. It is very simple. You don't need to open any brake lines. Just remove two mounting bolts, push the piston back, lift off the caliper, pull off the rotor, put on the new rotor, clean the rotor with brake cleaner, put the caliber back on, put back the two bolts, step on the brakes. After a couple pumps they should be nice and firm. If you buy the rotors your local garage should not charge more then an hour shop time. You are still looking at a couple hundred start to finish but since Chrysler is bouncing back and forth from bankruptcy i would be surprised if they step up to the plate. Does your hubby have a friend with a car more then 15yrs old (he probably works on his own car)? If so he probably can get the friend to change them for a case a beer. Good luck.

I drive a Chrysler Voyager and just had my 3rd brake job in 4 years. I'm getting annoyed and thought maybe our mechanic was using cheap parts but apparently not.

Aren't Chrylser and Dodge basically the same van? We had a Dodge Grand Caravan and had nothing but trouble with it. Never again.

We have had 2 sets of brakes put on our 2008 T&C and both sets we've been reimbursed for them by Chrysler...keep pressuring them and it should happen. Also work with the dealership too, they might be able to put in some leverage. Good luck.

I have a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country Limited. I have put brakes and roters on this car no less than 5 times since I got it. Now the electrical problems are starting and the car leaks around the windshield. Never will I buy a Chrysler product again.

You've looked at pages like this? (your username says PA, your location says OH!)

Thank you for the link. We are about halfway thru the process. All the critera has been met. Our case is within the "lemon department" we have done all that has been asked of us but they are still dragging their feet. I think they are hoping we give up and go away. LOL . It is very frustrating to have a brand new car that we save up to pay cash for and can't drive it because it randomly doesn't start. AAARrrggggg.

I lived in PA for 35 years. Moved to Ohio a year ago.

I would never replace brake rotors and pads that have worn out in 20k miles with the same garbage from the OEM. I don't even care if they would be replaced for free.

I had to replace all 4 rotors on my Ford Escape (actually a Mazda Tribute, same thing) at 35k miles to pass state inspection. Dealership wanted approximately $500 for the front and $500 for the rear. I work on my own cars, bought aftermarket for $90 each on the rotors and pads for $40 per set and replaced them myself without it being the same junk that was being replaced.

I could have gone with cheaper rotors, but you do get what you pay for (other than dealer shop work.)

Just for the heck of it, I also bought a set of front rotors and pads for my Nissan Altima at the same time. They had never been replaced with 165,000 miles on it.

We have had the front brakes done within a year after buying our 2008 T&C. Then we had to replace hardware on the back brakes and replace the back brakes. We still hear squealing and now worry the front needs to be done again... Did you get reimbursed the second time the same way as the first or was it a hassel? I am also getting sick of all the recalls! We have a 2003 Kia minivan also and have had less work done on it. It has 130k on it while the T&C has maybe 25k!

I think the moral of the story is to not buy Chryslers.
