First of all, the last I checked no one that posted in this thread actually works for Disney or the Disney Store website. What may seem an "obvious mistake" to one individual may not necessarily seem to be the same to another. Until what time, if any, Disney acknowledges that there was indeed a mistake in this promotion, it shouldn't be viewed as such.

Second, I am insulted and resent being called a "thief" based solely on one individual's perception of what transpired yesterday. When the promotion code was entered, a message clearly stated "Once per order". I acted within the parameters set by the rules of this promotion and to be insulted for doing so is, in my view, unsubstanciated and unnecessary. Based upon the terms of the promotion as stated on their site, my purchases were in good faith.

Disney has yet to acknowledge any error in this promotion and until they do so, I consider this a valid promotion. If, per chance, Disney writes me and explains there was an error and they are unable to fulfill my purchases, I will completely understand and agree to the cancellation.

Again, to be insulted and called a "thief" by someone who sits high upon their moral hog and views this promotion as an "obvious mistake" when there has yet to be any official word from Disney on the matter is reprehensible and utterly ridiculous.

"Let he, who is without sin, cast the first stone."

I'll put down my torch and extinguish the flame now.

rationalizing that if an error
When has anyone been told this was an error?
Read the ads in your local paper when you go to the store, stores are allowed to limit quantities, correct errors in ads,
That's BEFORE an item has been purchased. As THEY had the opportunity during the on-lines order.
If I buy something at Kohl's, and I go home is someone going to call me and say -- Oh we gave you a sale item and we shouldn't have! Come back in please.

But I don't see any more point in continuing this cnversation. We agree to Disagree.

Forgive my suspicious nature, but I find it amazing that not one person stepped up to declare their moral outrage until AFTER the offer was removed and orders were no longer able to be placed. I think that perhaps some of these sickened stomachs may be due to an overdose of sour grapes.

Well said!

Quick, familyoffive, by your standards these websites are being very naughty. I think you'd better notify them.

Mousesavers.com's website says "Get $15 off your DisneyStore.com order when you use coupon code HOLIDAY! Code can be used more than once! If you order items costing less than $15, code covers the merchandise only. You pay tax and shipping."

ItsRainingBargains.com's website said "This coupon code has been pulled. Hope some of you were able to take advantage!
****EXPIRED*****A hot deal I had to pass along to you! DisneyStore.com right now has a great coupon! Take $15 off any purchase!!! No minimum purchase. Click on the link above, and make sure to sign in and/or register first, then use coupon code HOLIDAY at check out. Use all capital letters and you may have to hit "Apply" more than one time to apply it to your order."

Hey Peachgirl! Goodmorning!

Just read your ripping my post apart and all I can say is that I placed the order when I didn't know the code was a mistake. Disney comes out with different offers around the holidays, I saw this one on the board and it wasn't mentioned that it was on the back of a card, etc... so I went and shopped, and purchased a doll for Christmas, used the code and went about my day.

I DID NOT surf all day, trying to figure out how to steal from Disney. I did NOT find out that this code was a fraud until hours AFTER my purchase.

They can cancel my order if they want. I will purchase it again at regular price. I need it for Christmas. It was not a way to "get away with my purchase"... it was just a middle ground.

Have a nice day.

Oh pleez ---
Yeah, I surf ALL day just to discover ways to STEAL from DISNEY! :p  I read a thread.

I am sitting here reading all these posts about the "sale". I did buy some sweatshirts, but did not sit there and surf all day. I found out about the sale about 3 hours before it ended and bought what I wanted. I thought about the gift cards, but in the end my dh and I decided that wasn't right. You really can't get money for less than it is worth - kind of like getting a DC discount on disney dollars.

I do not believe it is stealing. How do I justify my "free" sweatshirts? Let me tell you... I have been a disney shopper for years and have always participated in their sales. I have always gotten those $10 and up gc's for making large purchases (spend $50, get $10 gc for free). I have used it online but have also have gone into the store with that $10 gc and bought items or souvies (whether they were sale items or not) which come out free after entering the code. They have no problem with this at the stores - it's the same thing - even if I had more than one card, they were more than happy to split up the sales. If you go into TDS with a $10 GC from a prior promotion, pick out merchandise that is below the GC amount or slightly over, all you do is pay the difference if there is any. CM's just ring up the sale, swipe the GC and tell you the balance if any. If there is none, and this happened to me when I worked - I usually just said to them "Enjoy your gifts from Disney, come back again"

THANK YOU! Mousesavers is probably one of the most respected sites around for providing valid, ethical ways to save money. I would assume whoever thinks those of us who used this code are thieves and looters also holds the same opinion of Mousesavers. In which case, they ought to call and cancel any discount code they used to save money on their rooms and pay rack rate. Put your money where your ethics are!

So.....are you going to call them and cancel your order?

Is it only "stealing" if you placed 2 orders, 4,5? What if you ordered something less than $15, was that "stealing"?

Those of us that placed orders yesterday, be it 1 or 101 orders followed the rules stated on the site. Those of you that have a problem with this should take it up with Disney not us.

If you think prices will go up based on this, you are mistaken. There weren't any super sales prior to the last ticket increase. That didn't stop them from raising ticket prices. What caused the increase to the character breakfast. I'm sure you don't blame that on DISers.

You came in here accusing me and others of stealing. You labled our actions as greedy, obsessive, and crazy. You called us thieves and looters. And I ripped YOUR post? I just find your ability to justify what you do while being so morally outraged at all others amazing. We agree on one thing:

"Take responsibility for your actions and stop putting the blame back on them!"

And how is that you were the only one who didn't know the code was a mistake? The idea that this was a mistake didn't come up until after the discount was no longer available.

I also look at this as the DVD sale. It was a great promotional tool. It got people back in the stores to actually BUY, got people excited again and everyone was/is talking about it. Promos like these are great PR for Disney, esp in these days where too much bad press has been hitting them.
Not to mention this had to have boosted their sales quota, just as the DVD sale did.
We all ordered things we normally would not have, strictly because of the $15 off. And the majority of us still paid for items, not get freebies. It just cinched the deal on our purchases.
If Disney didn't intend to happen what did, then I guess they will be sure to cover themselves in future sales and not be so careless.

Morality (is that a word?) aside, it is very likely that Disney will cancel these orders soon. I've seen this type of deal before and very often, once the company realizes what happened they cancel the orders. ALL of the orders.

I've already heard of some gift card orders being cancelled. We'll just have to wait & see about the others.

Now can we all please stop name calling? Thank you! :)

Epcotfan hit the nail right on the head.

This was not a "mistake" by Disney. Okay, the giftcard issue might have been a glitch in the system - but - then again, maybe not. You are not actually getting cash, you are getting a gift card that is ONLY good for Disney merchandise. Not a whole lot different than receiving a coupon good for 60% off a purchase.

Now as far as the "mistake" is concerned. This was no mess up on Disney's part. This was an awesome way to lure people in to their website who normally would not buy online or who don't buy from disneystore.com because they think it's too expensive, doesn't have anything for them, etc.

Lots of big businesses do this! I work for one of the largest retail corporations in the country and we do things along this line all the time. We are constantly "giving away" merchandise to help bring new customers to our stores or to our website.

A recent example of another company doing this is Petsmart. I received through email a code to take $15 off any purchase with no minimum purchase. So I went in and ordered $15 or so of toys for my dogs and just paid shipping. When the box came in there was yet another code to do it again. This continued on 4 or 5 times. Did I take advantage? Heck yeah. Do I still go back and order from that website to this day without promotions? Yeah. Would I probably have become an internet customer of theirs without this advertising gimmick - not a chance!

And for those accusing people of stealing - please. If Disney didn't want this they wouldn't have run the promotion for a couple of days

MeanLaureen...Thanks for a calmer post. It's very hard sometimes to keep your temper( I'm as guilty of that as the next person) and a calm factual post is nice to read once in a while. :D

Might I add that when you use the gift card, you don't get "cash" back unless the change back is under $5. You get another card. Also, there are things that can't be purchased with a gift card such as Disney dollars.

"Okay, the giftcard issue might have been a glitch in the system - but - then again, maybe not. "

The only reason I think the gift card issue was a glitch is because when I "tested" the site it wasn't just the $15 discount that would allow a gift card purchase. You could also purchase it using the DC discount and others as well. Before anyone screams that I said I didn't buy a gc...I didn't. I only took the order as far as applying different discounts because I didn't believe you could actually do it. I've never known Disney to allow discounts of any kind to be applied to gift cards. That said, not everyone is aware of that fact and even if they are aware, it's reasonable to assume that if Disney is allowing it, it's ok to do it, whether it's been allowed in the past or not. It doesn't make you a thief or looter because you purchased a gift card.

Lastly....Disney has been known to issue some incredible short term offers to accomplish just what you suggest. These offers often go away as quickly as they came. The fact that the offer was abruptly ended in no way confirms that this offer was an error on Disney's part. They are a smart company, they know what they're doing.

I had no clue the code was a mistake, I still don't know that! I actually had to think long and hard about one of the 2 purchases I was about to make. Backed out of it twice trying to justify the extra toy(Disneyland playset)! It still was $35+ for that one, and something I would not have bought without a discount. The code lured me into a splurge for my DD. I don't see how that is stealing:confused: ! It worked out to be about the same as a free shipping code as the regular price was $40. The other purchase was a CD I would never have bought without some sort of discount. It was not free either, almost $8 on my credit card. I read the fine print that said one code per purchase and did just that on 2 purchases. Only when I started to read the board this morning did I realize that people think it was a mistake. If it is, I was sure clueless.

I think the only mistake was offering such a good deal without a way of limiting its use to those it was intended for. I don't think it was meant to be limited to a single purchase, but it was only supposed to be for those who received the card.

Once codes like this get out to the shopping & coupon boards, there is no stopping them! Disney should be aware of this, but maybe there weren't. Or they didn't care.

It seems as though people are confused about how this offer was supposed to work. People who say it was not a mistake on disney's part are wrong.

A month or so ago I placed an order with the disney store. They had a promo where if you ordered $65 or more you received a free gift card for $15 to be used between november 1 and november 10. When we received our order, I realized what a HUGE mistake they had made since it wasn't a numbered gift card like they use in the stores but was rather a cardboard card that said to use the code "holiday" on it.

Anyway, I received the card by following the rules. Of course by the time I got around to trying to use it, the offer had been pulled. So someone who followed the rules and received the coupon by legitimate means couldn't use it because a bunch of people abused it. When we called the disney store to find out how to use the card they said that we had to do a mail order or use it at the local disney store. NOT the way I intended to use it or what I understood to be the use from the rules, but what I had to put up with. Instead of using it for the item that I have been waiting to purchase since my last order (which I can no longer wait for so doing an order by mail and waiting for the whole thing to process and ship is out) I had to go and use my gift card at the disney store buying stuff I wouldn't have normally have purchased. Is this sour grapes? I guess it's sour grapes that I followed the rules and lost out because I followed the rules.

For the record, the only "discount code" i have ever used at a disney resort is an AP discount and I have always had an AP. People can justify their actions in any way they want and they can rationalize in any way they want. I'm sure there are many people who didn't realize it was an error and what's done is done... but for those who placed many many orders to use the same code over and over, I would guess that you would have a sense that that is not normally the way things work. If something is too good to be true, it likely isn't. I guess in the end the only one you have to answer to is yourself and your own conscience.

Confusius say, take the wine when offered or you'll end up with sour grapes.:)

"When we called the disney store to find out how to use the card they said that we had to do a mail order or use it at the local disney store."

That's incorrect. I take it you must have tried to shop online this morning or late last night as that was when the discount code offer rules were changed. Are you saying that between last night and this morning you 1) Tried to purchase the item online and weren't able to? 2) Called your local Disney Store and got this mis-information and 3) Have already gone to the local store and made your purchases? If that's what you did, it's unfortunate because you were definitely mis-informed. At any rate, the offer was not pulled and is still valid for online purchases. Only the rules for redemption have changed. I'm surprised that when you went to the website to do your shopping you didn't see the big icon that says "Click here for instructions on how to redeem your Holiday Magic Card". Had you clicked that you would have seen this:

"Holiday Magic Card Redemption
To redeem your Holiday Magic Card*, please complete your online order and mail your Holiday Magic Card, along with your name, address and online order number to...."

It goes on to give you the address to mail the discount card to and details of the offer. So, while you may resent others being able to get the discount, you in no way have been affected in regards to your ability to use the discount. You may use it online, by mail order or at your local Disney Store just as always.
