Hi
I am so sorry for all that you and your family have been through. I can't imagine getting the old heave ho while recovering from surgery. It is true, companies have no loyalty now a days. I work in the hotel/hospitality industry and they want you to work like fools during the "season" but when it is slow, they go oops we are sorry you can't work 40 hours. I worked at a place for almost 5 years before I had to quit to take care of my DF who had lung cancer and I was there from the beginning and I was able to get my hours, that is until the boss let all of her kin folk start working there, her sister, grandmother, boyfriend, cousin by marriage.
Hope all goes well for your daughter's recovery and may she find a job that deserves her.

Sounds like Circuit City that just laid off a bunch of employees because they were making more than the industry standard for their position. CC said they were welcome re-apply for their job at the lower salary. No thanks!

My mother used to say "God gets you and it ain't always pretty". I have found that to be true.

I am sure her former employer will find out soon enough that "you get what you pay for". If you pay 1/2 of a salary, you'll get 1/2 of a worker.

You know, C.Ann, sometimes these things happen for a reason, which we may not know at the time they happen, but the reason becomes crystal clear eventually. A wonderful opportunity may be around the corner for your DD. maybe this job, as much as she loved working with her clients, was a stressor that was causing a lot of her illness.

I don't know...I just like to think that the Universe unfolds like it should.

I am so sorry your daughter is going through all this! It is more common than we'd like to think. When our Co. got bought out, the new owners were going around saying they were going to fire everyone and hire us all back at 1/2 of what we make...:lmao: that quickly changed when my boss did step up to the plate and informed him that this is a very "skilled labor" business and you can't hire anyone off the street to come into a telephone office and start wiring equipment..and there was no way that we would accept 1/2 our pay! No way would I drive 3 hrs a day for 1/2 the $...for that I can get a job down the street... not 80 mile drive one way!!!

your daughters company will soon see... they might be paying 1/2 the amount....they could also very well receive 1/2 the work from that person ;)!

I agree...you get what you pay for!

I'm so sorry this happened to your DD but I was thinking there was probably something behind it like this.

It happened to my DH! He had a big old target on his back since he was actually above the ceiling of what a new person in his position would make due to they changed the pay scale (went from commission to non-commission & your hourly rate was based on what you made the previous year -- everyone there during that time was grandfathered in so if they were above the ceiling it was allowed). They had told him about a year before they could no longer give him any more raises, etc... He was there almost 10 years (several of them after the pay change so it wasn't as if it was done immediately). Then they did lay-offs, he lucked out one other time because he was cross-trained so was in another department that wasn't affected when lay-offs happened but then they transferred him back & the entire department got laid off. I can guarantee you the reason he was laid off the next round was due to how much he was making. He got a letter stating it was not his work performance, got reference letters, etc...

I have no loyalty to companies because this happens all the time.
