As some of you may have read..have booked a 1400 loop...the outer loop for August. Was at FW a couple of years ago, while staying at the Wilderness Lodge..took our bikes through to pick out a good site for when we brought the trailer down. We like the location of 1400...want a preferred site with cable. Through the back of site there was a comfort sation and access to the campfire area..and then to the Meadow area..for pool and arcade(important to 14 year old boy!).
Has anyone stayed in this loop...and if so do you recommend it...and specifically a site #.? I just don't recall any numbers from our visit...but did like the rear of the 1400 do to the proximity to mentioned amenties.
Any other suggestions or specifics? keeping in mind we do want a cable loop.

Also looked into the 300 loop(dog loop and preferred..but prob.won't be bringing the dog)...but worried about it being pretty far from the Meadow area where my son would prefer to spend a good deal of his time. Also we have electric scooters...so I guess that would be an option. Noticed a canal out the back of the site we liked and wonder about the bug situation in August being located near a canal.

Would appreciate any input you folks who have stayed there before in regard to loops and site #'s. I realize that they are not guaranteed, just requested..but appreciate the benefits of those with the experience of having stayed at the Fort...we can't wait! We will be traveling with Travel trailer..30 ft..with slide and awning..probably more like 33 bumper to hitch.

1400 is our favorite preferred loop, the sites to get are in the range of 1430 - 1436 or so, they are near the comfort station and the campfire area.

We stayed on the outer loop of 1400 in Feb. '02. I don't remember the site #, but the comfort station and campfire area were in view. We have a 33' TT with slide and awning, and the site we had, we couldn't put the awning out due to the trees. We also had a problem with other campers cutting through our site on the way to the bathroom and campfire programs :confused3

Now that does sound like a problem. It will be August..and I absolutely want to be able to have the awning out.
Did you ask for another site? If you recall the site number...please let me know..I will certainly want to avoid that one if possible.

Folks cutting through your site for the comfort station...that's just plain rude.

Auntie,

When we are down there next week, I will check it out. I will remember the site once I see it and will post back here of PM you with the number.

As for the people cutting through the sites, I agree - just plain rude. We try and avoid that at all costs. Even when you say something, the people just give you a look like you are the one doing something wrong by complaining to them.

FYI. The 1400 loop has had some substantial work done to it since 2002. Some of the trees that would block slide outs and awnings have been removed. Also all of the fake stumps that housed the electric and cable connections have been removed. These used to be on the side of each site. Now, all of the electric and cable connections are in a plain metal box at the rear of each site. The water connections are still to the side, but these are on posts low enough not to interfere with a slide-out. Those stumps would block a lot of slides, which is why I guess they removed them. As far as people cutting through your site, I bet that you were in one of the sites across from the comfort station. The 1400 loop has an outer and an inner loop. There is actually a path between some of the sites in the inner loop (which is called Little Bear Loop), to the comfort station. If you look, there is a small light post on either side of this path. I have camped in one of the sites in the inner loop next to this path. It is shown on the maps that they keep up at the check-in booths at the Outpost. It is not otherwise designated as a path. If people from the inner loop use this path to get to the comfort station, that is not cutting through your campsite. I don't know anywhere else on the 1400 loop where anyone else would get anywhere from cutting through someone's campsite, so I'm thinking that is where you were. I have no problem with someone walking between two campsites. What is the big deal? The 1400 loop is a busy loop. If you want less activity, don't ask to camp in this loop.

We have stayed at 1444 twice. First in Dec 02, then June 04. Imagine my suprise when the CM gave us the papers at check in with the same number! I had only asked for preferred loop. We could immediately tell they had made changes to the foliage (sp?). It was a little walk to the comfort station, but not bad, maybe walk past 4 or 5 sites. And right past the comfort station was the path to the campfire, further to pool and store. We enjoyed this site.

Lindsey...1444...our travel trailer is about 33 ft. bumper to hitch with slide and awning...would you think this would accomodate it?

I've already asked Melissa if she'd mind checking out some 1400 loop sites on her next visit...you folks here are so helpful...and take such an interest in one anothers trips. I amazed at how insightful everyone is. I am picking up quite a bit taking in all the info regarding site size, trees..foiliage..that sort of things. Seems that everyone learns from one another.
I hope when we return, I'll have the some helpful info to add to the board.

I'm not good about sizes, but we had a Jayco pop-up (probably about 28ft long when up) and a 4-man tent set up behind the camper. My SIL was beside us with a 30ft 5th wheel, slide-out, and awning.

WOW! That's one long pop up! At least a lot longer than any of mine ever were. Are you sure about that length? :earseek:

We were in 1408 this last week and could just barely get the awning out. However, the folks across from us had a 36' 5th with four slides and was able to get them all out ok

Okay...1408 seems a little tight...any chance you remember the number of the 5th wheel with the four slides...that sure sounds pretty roomy to accomodate all that. Appreciate it. ;)
