14 Leftover Points

What can you do with 14 points you cannot use? As part of the incentive to sign onto AKV, we were given points for 2009. We booked for January 2011 and used all but 14 of those points.

They are banked, but cannot be used by us before our 2010 user year runs out.

What would you do with those points in lieu of losing them?

Could MS not reallocate the points usage (using banked first, then current UY, then borrowed) so that the 14 "leftovers" are in your 2011 UY?

If not, are you within driving distance to one of the beach resorts (HHI or VB)? If so, you could get a Sun-Thurs night in a studio or Inn room at VB for 14 points or less or 1-2nights in a studio or 1 night in a 1BR at HHI, depending on the time of year. Maybe even borrow a little from your 2011 UY to get a long weekend trip to either resort.

You could also offer them up for around $10/pt as a transfer to another member who is short on points. This is still cheaper than the new "one time use" points you can purchase directly from Disney. It may or may not be worth it to you to deal with a private transaction like that.

They were banked and can be used in 2011. We are using all but 14 of them for our January trip. We are going again in December 2011, but that is past my use year (of course, as it is after Dec 1).

I did not really think about selling them.....maybe that is the best option.

If you are driving down the East Coast for your January trip you might consider booking a night at HHI or VB. That would eat up most, if not all, of those 14 points and allow you to break up the trip coming or going. You can get 2 nights in a studio or 1 night in a 1BR at HHI in January for 14 points or less Sun-Thurs.

I had 31 points left over so I booked an additional day on each of my two trips this year.

We had purchased a HHI resale with '08 points that we had to use by Oct 1. We tried to get into HHI either before or after our June trip with no luck. We figured the WL was unlikely to come through so we decided to add a day at the end of our June trip rather than lose them.

We have also used points (rather then lose them) to stop over at HHI on our return trip home.

You cannot transfer banked points. Your only option would be to make a reservation for someone using your points and then sell them the reservation. With only 14 points, you would only be able to book one night in only certain rooms but who knows, you might find someone who is looking to book just one night.
