Hi

We are from Canada and are planning to go to WDW sometime between Jan 16-Feb 15 2004, (staying onsite). We have 8 and almost 10 year old. We want to experience WDW but not go commando style and have some days off. How many days would you go to the parks and what do you suggest for off days. Also what type/ how long of ticket would you choose? We will not go back within a year.

Thanks
Michelle

Knowing me, I would probably wind up at a park for at least a few hours a day. You can take a day and relax and then go back for dinner, which I most likely would do. But my guess is that I'd pick at least 9 or 10 our of the 14 for the parks. WIth that in mind, I would still get an AP. Once you are in a park for 8 days or more you break even or save money. Check out this link, it will explain it more http://www.wdwig.com/breakeven.htm

Enjoy your trip!!

I'd definitely go with APs, but not PAPs, as that time of year the water parks are often down for rehab. Plus, if you'll return anytime during the year it really makes it worth it.

I would do the AP's also (not the PAP's). If you want to relax & have down time these are the best passes to get. Since we have gotten the AP's or PAP's we have enjoyed our vacations much more.

Some mornings we get up early & go to the parks for a few hours, head back to the resort for a swim & then we may or may not go back later in the evening.

Other days we hang at the pool most of the day or do something else (golf, horseback riding, DTD) & then head to a park in the late afternoon. Some days we just make PS's in EPCOT & do dinner there & then watch Illuminations.

The AP's are so flexible & they really do make the vacation much more enjoyable then a regular Park Hopper does. I don't think they are much more than a 7-day Park Hopper Plus, but regardless, however much more they are - they are worth every penny!

I was thinking that AP's might be the way to go even though we cannot go back again in the same year, you just reenforced it!

Michelle

Anyone else?

I'd suggest that you call Paramount International and ask about either the 30 day or 10 day ticket. Each comes with a breakfast voucher and cost only 310 or 335 respectively. I don't know why the 10 day costs more than the 30 day. They allow admission not only to any of the parks (work like hoppers) but also water parks, PI and Disney Quest. The 30 day ticket also includes some museum admissions and Kennedy Space Center. These tickets end up being cheaper than the AP, even with DC discount. There are several threads on the Budget Board Forum.

Don't forget the discounts you receive with the APs. In addition to room discounts, there are dining, shopping, recreation and travel discounts. With the demise of the Disney Club, there's very little out there offering those discounts.

I would go with AP's, especially if you are staying on site, as the room discounts are great. Its nice to feel free to pop into MK for just an hour or two without having to worry about wasting a day on a pass.

Have a great trip, and be sure to tell us about it when you get back!

We are staying for 13 days in June & we decided to buy the APs (not PAPs..not waterpark fans) that way we can go to a park for a few hours & then go back to the resort & relax a bit.
We don't have to worry about wasting a day on the APs.

Good Luck with what you choose

I would definately do the AP's. :D

Another vote for APs, not PAPs. We were there last year Jan 25-Feb 5, and there were probably only 2 days when it was hot enough to spend a day at a water park. We did hit the resort pool everyday, as Disney heats their pools very nicely.

We got APs, hit the park every day but arrival and departure, and it was great. We will be returning this year in January a week earlier, and flying home the day our passes expire, so maybe we will cross paths.

We spent 13 days in WDW in August and purchased PAP with DC discount. We did Typhoon Lagoon and Disney Quest often so the PAP was worth it for us. We just returned from a week in April as well, so it was nice and definately paid for itself ten times over. Once you have annual passes, they burn a whole in your pocket to plan another trip before they expire, though so watch out LOL!

I cannot believe the quick helpful responses I have had to all my posts. Thanks again!!!!

We will be visiting for 9 days this year and I was also wondering
what type of tickets to get. If I do get the AP's, can I buy them
at my resort or do we need to buy them at the regular ticket
windows at thepark. We've been buying UPHs for so long right at
our hotel that I wasn't sure how to do the AP thing. Thanks for any help/advice.

MicheleC - you can get them at your local Disney store. You order them & then a voucher arrives a few weeks later. You take the voucher to a ticket window at any of the parks or the TTC & they will turn them into activated AP's for you. On our trip a few weeks ago we activated them in the evening of the day we got there so we could save time in the morning.

After activating them you can go right into a park - even if it's only for an hour or 2 - they are so flexible & so great to have. :p

You can also just get them at any ticket window or the TTC without having a voucher for them.

I think what type of passes you get depend on what parks you want to visit and where you are staying.

If you are planning to also spend time at Universal and SeaWorld, not staying on WDW property and not coming back this year then I would get a 7 day plus park hopper and a 4 day multi park Universal pass (this includes SeaWorld). This will allow you more activities. Down time could be spent at the Kennedy Space Center or a drive to the beack or mellowing out at the hotel pool.

If you are staying on WDW property and only plan to do WDW then definitely get an AP. This allows you a few hours (or more) in the parks every day you are there. Staying on property allows you easy access from parks to room so you easily break up those hours during the day with visits to your room for down time.
