My son turns 13 this weekend. I'm trying to figure out what to get him for his birthday. He doesn't know what he wants... I've asked.

I'm thinking that instead of one bigger (high priced) item, I should buy him a few things... maybe clothing-type items? He's got all of the electronics.

He goes to a private school, so wears a uniform. But, shoes, jewelry (watches, necklaces), outerwear can be anything. He's not much for name brands, but since I spend very little on his clothes, I'd be willing to splurge on a couple of things.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My son turned 13 a few months ago. It can be hard to buy gifts for teen boys.

What about giving him cash or a gift card to his fave mall? or a bunch of gift cards to his fave places?

My DS is 14yo. Every kid is different...what are some of your DS's interests?

Popular gift ideas for my DS (and his friends) are hooded sweatshirts (my DS likes Nike the best), a nice quality basketball or football, video games, nice headphones for music, gaming headset, dvd movies, gift cards such as iTunes, PlayStation Network or xBox points. Cash also becomes popular at that age.

Depending on the kid, Legos or Nerf guns may still be popular...

Also, depending on your house rules, maybe a PG13 movie or video game you had not previously allowed to mark becoming a teenager.

Happy Birthday to your DS!!

Totally depends on the interest of the child. DD is turning 14. She's a total Dr. Who nut (down to having me make a Tardis cake for her). Had three people over for her birthday. Received a Dr. Who tee shirt and sonic screwdriver and a card for XBox points. We bought her some Converse high tops she wanted (with the British flag on them). For 8th grade graduation, we bought her a Tardis watch from Thinkgeek.com.

DS (now 19) at that age was totally into BB guns, paintball, and PS3 games.

Have you updated his bedroom recently? Now that he's a teen, maybe he'd like to do some redecorating. New wall color (let him pick it out) and new comforter/sheets? New pictures for the walls (my DS was into Japanese things when he was that age and got lots of wall hangings from the Japanese pavillion at WDW). New lamp?

Something else room related would be a body pillow or one of those pillows that you lean against for reading in bed.

Awesome! :)

Tickets to events (sporting, concerts, movies, etc.)
Basket of food items that you don't normally buy (Slim Jims, Cheeze Its, etc) - DS is 19 and this is still one of his favorite gifts
Gift cards to places he likes (stores, restaurants, movies, places like laser tage, etc.)

We got our son a XBox for his birthday last Sept.
His birthday happened to fall on the first day of school, so we gave him his XBox a week early so he'd have time to play his hew games before school started. He also got tickets to a football game, but that was also prior to his birthday
So on his actual birthday, I felt bad not having a gift for him. I didn't want to get him anything else as we had already spent $$$ on him, so I bought a container and loaded it up with junk he loves-bottled root beer, Pringles, gum, Jujyfruits, KitKats etc. He LOVED it, I mean loved this silly gift.
So did my daughter, who insisted on her own snack basket for her birthday the next month.
I've been I informed its a new family tradition LOL

My DS wanted a gaming chair, anything airsoft, he's now obsessed with zombies () so zombie t-shirt and decal, plus some of the PP's suggestions for gift cards.

I've yet to meet a teenage boy who isn't crazy about food related gifts! When I do DS' basket his friends are all excited too.

A good pocket knife, if he doesn't already have one.
