.

For those who missed my weekend post, dd age 4 got sick Wed night and was in the hospital from Thurs-Sat with dehydration from rotovirus. This is one very nasty gi bug that doesn't let go easily. Yesterday was our first full day home and she started out the day rough, it got much better and she ate, but by late afternoon she was sick again. Today she woke up hungry and we are going slow but she is actually playing right now, a beautiful sight.

Here's my PSA - WASH YOUR HANDS with soap and water!!!! We aren't sure where she picked this virus up but it is nasty. According to the CDC, 55,000 children are hospitalized each year from rotovirus. Do a google search and you'll learn more than you ever wanted to know.

Any spare pixie dust for my Cinderella is greatly appreciated.......

pixiedust: for your Cinderella! My DS has also been hospitalized a few times with rotovirus, most recently last summer for some fluids...it is yucky! Hope your DD gets to feeling better!

My youngest was hospitalized with it a few years age... it is horrible.

Hoping she gets better soon. :flower3:

It's a very nasty one. I hope she's well on her way to recovery now.:grouphug:

I hope she's feeling better. Both our girls have had various ailments, but thank goodness, never had a virus bad enough to go to the hospital. I can't imagine how you feel. Hopefully you can both get some rest and peace now!

Hugs to you!! My DS was hospitalized with it when he was 3, it's a BAD virus. They get so sick and physically drained.

And then, when I finally sent him back to day care over a week later, the poor kid was still so exhausted that he laid down ON THE ROCKS on the playground. I felt like such a BAD mother (he was okay when I took him to school - really!). So I went and got him and took the poor little guy home.

Oh poor thing! Rotovirus is sooo nasty :(

And KEEP ON washing your hands!! Kids can shed virus for up to two weeks after they recover!! And it can live for 10 days on a hard surface like a countertop or a grocery cart handle. :scared:

Pixie dust for your princess!!! My DS had rotovirus when he was 11 months old and like your daughter he was in the hospital for 3 days. It was terrible! His veins had all collapsed, and they could only get his IV in through his jugular vein. It's a sight I'll never forget, and that still haunts me.

He came through it fine, but it set him back developmentally for a few months. When he came home from the hospital, the only food he could keep down was dry Rice Chex cereal.

My prayers are with your daughter and with you as well. It's not easy to watch your child go through something like this!

Our hands are the cleanest in the county! Any suggestions for a good hand cream??

There was some nasty stuff going around the kids' school a couple of weeks ago, and the school was having the kids wash their hands like mad-people. Hannah came home with rough, cracked, hands that even had sores on them. When Emily was small, the doctor recommended Aquaphor for her chapped lips - and it worked wonders. So I put some on the kids' hands at night time, and had them sleep with socks on them. Within a couple of days, their skin was all healed up.

Aquaphor is an ointment type cream, which comes in a tube, and can be found near the Eucerin, and other good hand creams. It is pretty expensive, but CVS makes a generic brand, and you don't need much to do a good job. It does stain fabrics, so we only use it at night and cover our hands with
socks. (We tried gloves one time, but DD didn't like them).

I would also like to recommend L'Bri hand lotion. It's aloe-based and non-greasy. I just love it :)

L'Bri is a direct sales company like Avon and Mary Kay - you can google it, I presume. I don't think it's kosher if I post the link.

Anyway, yeah rotovirus is a hardy little bug. Imagine someone not so careful as you are about handwashing, changing the diaper of a baby who got over it a week ago, (so she doesn't think about them still being contagious) and then touching something else before washing their hands (I'm thinking a mom in a public bathroom here) and all you have to do is come along a WEEK LATER and touch that same spot...and rotovirus is now on your hand!

I'm not a germ-phobe, but I am really into handwashing, especially before you touch your eyes or nose, or eat anything!

It is very nasty, my youngest spent her 1st Christmas in the hospital with it. It does take a long time to completely recover, I know I've read about a vaccine but they still seem to be having trouble with side effects.

 to you and your DD as she recovers.

Make sure that she doesnt touch anything until she washing her hands after she goes to the bathroom. my dd(3)had it when she was just under a year old and recontaminated herself twice because she would try to touch her diaper when I changed her and I thought I was ok by wiping her hands with wipes but that didnt stop the spreading because it wasnt antibacterial, I needed to carry purel, put gloves on her and have hubby hold her hands during every diaper changing for 4 days before she got better.. She had it for almost 2 weeks!

Bless her heart  . Glad to hear she's out of hospital and improving :goodvibes . Always worrisome and stressful when our babies are so sick. Thx for the tips, one can never be to careful and I've heard this is an this awful virus.

 for Mommy too. :flower3:

Never experienced this one, thank god. My DD woke up today with 2 ear infections:sad: , and this was day one of spring break. We had swimming planned, etc..OOPSIE. don't think so..

Lots of hugs, prayers, and pixie dust to your DD:grouphug: pixiedust:

My youngest was also hospitalized at around age 2, I think. It is scary...:faint:

I know in my heart she got it from the rental strollers at the mall.

Never, ever, did I rent them again.:scared:

The twins BOTH had it when they were about 10 months old, when we were out of town visiting family/looking for a new place to live for DH's job transfer on the day we were supposed to drive home, 4 1/2 hours. YUCK. We stopped by Walmart on the way out of town, bought a bunch of sleepers and towels to stuff in their car seats to catch the mess, yuck, yuck, yuck. Everything went right from the car to the garbage. I feel for you!
