(My brother's work dropped off several party type trays and beer. - He liked that!)


My mom always makes either an apple pie or a carrot cake when a close friend/neighbor passes away.

It looks like you already got a lot of good suggestions, so I don't have anything to add.
Just to say that when my FIL died in June, a lot of people did bring food by and it was all appreciated. A lot of relatives and close friends stopped by to see my MIL. We used some of the little 'portable' foods (like muffins and cookies) when people came by. It was nice to be able to have something to serve people without having to make/get anything.
