DD is home.. The CAT scan didn't show appendicitis, but it did reveal some sort of problem with her intestines - possibly right-sided diverticulitis.. For now she's on an antibiotic, fluids, and bed rest - with instructions to return to the hospital by ambulance if the pain becomes severe again; her fever goes back up (it's down to 99), or she starts vomiting..
Even though the CAT scan was negative, this particular doctor said that he can't guarantee that it's not the onset of appendicitis, so it's very important to look for any of the signs I listed above and call an ambulance if they reoccur..
She's sleeping right now (just went in and checked on her) - she doesn't feel warm to the touch - so I'll just leave her be until she wakes up on her own.. She had a very LONG day and night..
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she won't need surgery.. Not a good way to start off the New Year..
Thanks for all the good wishes - and thanks for sharing your own stories of dealing with this ridiculous "labeling"..
Next comes trying to find a new doctor - like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.. For now I believe she'll just be going to the Urgent Care Centers and totally bypassing "Dr. Depression".. The co-pay is the same as an office visit, so for now it will do..
I'm leaving for Florida on January 16th.. Hopefully we can have this all resolved by then because if she's still sick, I won't go..
If you feel suspicious about ANY new symptom that develops, go back to the hospital ASAP. My appendicitis had NONE of the normal symptoms at all, except the abdominal pain (and boy did it HURT, worst pain in my life, ever). I had no fever and no vomiting. By the time they figured it out and got me to surgery it had already ruptured, I got a massive infection and had to spend a week in the hospital on IV antibiotics.
Anyway, apendicitis can be very tricky to diagnose, even for good doctors. So trust your instincts.
