I keep thinking it just can't be real. I read a lot of articles saying what happens to the body when this occurred, so either all of those "experts" were wrong, or this shady family is staging some kind of hoax to keep the funding up. I think its about money, because they pop up every time the donation page gets stale.

And that's exactly my point...we were all pretty set in our opinions at the time and so were many well-meaning people on the "other" side. Somebody must have been wrong. Medical people - please help us out here.

The thing with the picture is that there is no way to know if it is real or not. I honestly don't believe it is. It could have been from months ago or doctored in some way.

I believe in medical science. Multiple doctors, some who had no other connection to the incident, all declared her dead. I put more faith in them being right then this crazy as heck family.

At this point, if she is still being sustained on a ventilator and her heart is still beating I'd like one of the knowledgeable medical people here to weigh in on HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE. 8 months ago it was stated quite decisively that a brain dead body would deteriorate in a relatively short period of time. What exactly is really going on here?

Most brain dead bodies aren't given g'tubes for food and given extra nutrients from I.V.s once they are considered brain dead.

One pediatric doctor did say it may not be fast but it won't be forever. There are brain dead patients who have been kept going on ventilators and feeding tubes for a couple of years but they all died from one thing or another.

I am shocked we haven't heard of her getting some sort of infection or something. I've been following the story of a grown woman who is in a coma not completely brain dead and her family constantly updates her followers on UTI infections, brain swelling, Upper respiratory issues, kidney infections etc. This person isn't even on a ventilator. I can't imagine what this girl's body is going through.

No clue. Honestly nobody knows what is really going on with her. There are no official press releases and no media has been allowed to see her. The family releases grainy photos on facebook and the family lawyer says she is improving. None of it can be verified.

Just searched around and didn't see any direct evidence of exactly how (or if) things are going with Jahi. All references are pretty vague and cryptic at this point. Probably with good reason. It seems they want to be right at all costs. Descriptions of her physical state back in the winter were not good. If things were going well, I have no doubt they'd be shouting from the rooftoops and we'd be seeing lots of pictures and video of this great miracle of our time. Back in the winter we were told by medical experts that it was just a matter of time until organ failure occurred. I don't see anything that makes me believe otherwise.

Exactly. If she was doing better it'd be all over the news and the family would've taken legal action against the hospital and doctors. We would've heard about it.

As soon as I saw this thread reappear, I figured the donation well was running dry and the family wants more $$$.

My personal opinion based on no evidence whatsoever: the girl was cremated within a week of leaving the original hospital. The family and/or their lawyer occasionally release new vague stories of her improvement to keep the gravy train going.

It seems like they should have some obligation to at least prove she is still in a home and the money donated is going directly to Jahi's care and not elsewhere.

There has been zero independent corroboration of the state of the body. The family can make all the claims that it wants, but there is always going to be skepticism that it's just a ploy to extract money. It wouldn't surprise me if the body was already removed/buried/cremated, but the family is just keeping this up for sympathy and donations.

The agreement they had with the Alameda County coroner was that once the body expired, they would release it to them for an autopsy. I have the feeling this isn't going to happen.

seems like the fund raising site has been taken down. when this thread would resurface I would go look at the fund raising site to see what was happening, and when I tried to look today the link is gone, and a search on that site pulls up no name match. makes me wonder what's up.

When she died, she was only 13, so she had a young heart and other than the weight would have been pretty 'healthy' with a young persons immune system, heart, lungs etc. Her condition was not caused by injury or trauma, it was by a lack of oxygen.

So she was in a pretty good condition to begin with, so her heart could keep going for a while. As to her gut, the damage would have been caused by, again, lack of oxygen, but that would only have been for a relatively short period of time before they got her on the vent. Any damaged areas would have sloughed off (as noted a previous report). It is possible that because her gut was rested (ie no food) for a good while - 28 days whilst she was in the childrens hosp and given time to heal (it would have been receiving oxygenated blood). It could have 'healed' enough for it then to 'tolerate' feeding again.

As for the decomposing, she won't be. Her body's condition will be deteriorating, but her tissues (other than her brain) are being perfused with oxygenated blood, while her tissues are getting oxygen they won't decompose.

She will have muscle wastage, contractures of limbs and will be very prone to infections and her skin will be very friable and prone to breakdown, but she won't be decomposing in the traditional sense.

Just to ressurect this thread just like they are trying to do to Jahi, they recently went to court to get the decision of brain death REVERSED! What???!!!
One of the original doors re-examined her and kept their original diagnoses of brain dead. But they still managed to get two doctors to say that "Jahi was still alive, but severely brain damaged". Hmmm.....as in dead!
