TSA Pre Check and Global Entry suspended **Post # 29 apparent update --

We have TSA pre-check and added Clear about 2 years ago.

We go to the Clear terminals at the right of Pre-check. So far never had to wait as agents and machines were available. They take our picture and documents, then they go to the pre-check security desk to cut us to the front, and we are ushered right through into the body/luggage screening area.

Not sure if it would work differently if I didn’t also have pre-check.

Ah, looks like Clear without Pre-check would only move us to front of regular security that has the standard screening process (shoes off, electronics out, liquids out, remove belts, jackets, etc), which is more prone to backing up.

I honestly thought Clear took you to the front of Precheck regardless. Could easily be wrong.

Clear only takes you to PreCheck if you have PreCheck.

In ATL right now. In the Delta CLEAR/PreCheck line. This was clearly the wrong choice. Touch less would have been the fastest (which I am eligible for) and regular precheck would have been second. YMMV. If this is the case in MCO as well it is a good argument for not renewing CLEAR even though I get it comped. These vultures do not deserve my money.

TSA has also been re-doing the facial recognition after CLEAR does an ID check for a year or more now, so I don’t even know what it is supposed to accomplish.

Clear also was bad for me at MCO recently.

So far we’ve used the combo of Clear+ and TSA Precheck 4 roundtrips between EWR and MCO Terminal C. I can’t remember if we used it outbound at JFK.

I’ll try to take pictures of the lines next time. April we’re doing EWR/MCO and the flight home is midday Saturday. Sept we’re doing EWR/LAX and that flight home will be on a Sunday evening. Less see what happens this year.

Clear+ hasn’t been nearly as useful as Pre-check but I appreciate DH took the time to coordinate that with our credit cards. A couple times it saved maybe 5 minutes. Most often it saves 10 or 15 minutes. Pre-check is doing the heavy lifting here though. I’ve seen reports of seriously backed up Pre-check, just hasn’t happened yet for us. The 8-12yrs ago before? We experienced many nightmares going thru reg security. I’ve also seen reports of Clear being backed up but I wonder if some mistake the free Clear service area*. So far Clear+/Pre-check has been zero line for us and the entire process 10 minutes start to finish, 15 mins max.

*maybe even the non-precheck one because I can see that area getting backed up with people who don’t travel enough to have bothered with pre-check, but came across the paid service that can be tried for free: Clear+. There is no free trial for pre-check, but you can get 5yrs of pre-check free when buying 1yr of Clear+. So why would anybody with the fully paid version of Clear+ choose regular security?
