13 Year old gir declared brain dead has now officially died

I don't know ... I'm OK with the family asking the school for an honorary grade school diploma. It's a big deal in some communities.

I never got a diploma. Just went straight on to 9th grade. Never had my own graduation ceremony until graduating high school.

Then obviously is wasn't a big deal in your community :confused3.

ETA: Was 8th and 9th grade in the same school? Sometimes Junior High includes both grades and then it wouldn't be a big deal any more than going from 10th to 11th. Around here we have K-5, 6-8, 9-12 but where my sister lives it's K-8 then 9-12. 8th grade graduation is big in both places. Sadly, it's the only "graduation" that many kids will experience.

Was a 7/8 junior high at the time, but the district moved to a 6/7/8 middle school model since. Junior high schools were not the same as 9-12 high schools. There were also no organized school sports until high school.

It was th same in my area, even though 9th grade was the transition to high school, we had no middle school graduation. No sense in letting kids think they are done :p

No 8th grade graduation around here either, even though middle school is 6-8. I think it's a regional thing.

I don't have a problem with the family wanting an honorary diploma. There are much bigger issues to be concerned with.

I have been wondering what is happening now in this weird family situation. How can this girl still be around? :confused3

BTW, I had a huge graduation for finishing my 8th grade, almost nicer than my 12th. Was lots of fun.

She seems to surface as the ******** account donations starts to wane.

Do you think a dead body should be sucking up expensive medical resources?

I do not, but I sure pray that I am never faced with this sort of decision. My sister is a therapist in a childrens hospital, and she told me that there are a lot of families in which the children receive SSDI (or whatever the supplemental coverage is called.) The parents make decisions for their children that many times is colored by the money that the family has added to their budget. She said that she thinks that they convince themselves that they are making the best decision for their child, but many times it is not. The child suffers terribly as he or she is kept alive by extraordinary means. Perhaps not a deliberate decision based on money, but she said it really is a consideration.

I am not at all sure this family is doing this but I am pretty sure they are suffering a delusion that some entity is profiting by.

Perhaps. But does your sister seem them progress past the point where they were declared brain dead? Wasn't she issued a death certificate? That's where this case veers off in an entirely different direction.

Interesting about the " graduation" before high school.
There wasn't any when I was growing up until high school.
Schools have been k-5 ,6-8,9-12.
My dd is in my old school system and had ceremonies in5&8th grades.

But back to Jahi. I think they have put her to rest(even though they were supposed to return her body for autopsy)
They know a hospital research center can't admit if she was there.

Really? I know St. Petes is a Catholic hospital, but I didn't think they would ever accept her body.

I have no idea. I am simply saying that there are often more issues at hand when parents or adult children, for that matter, make decisions about their loved ones health care. My sister was pretty clear that as health professionals, she and her colleagues are often upset that they are required to perform treatments that, they would never ever do voluntarily under some of the circumstances that these poor people are existing under.

I cannot put myself in the place of this poor girls parents, but I sure pray that if I was faced with the decision, I would not make the same one that they have made. I wonder who is profiting from this decision, because I believe that in this case, someone has money playing a part in the choice to keep this girl on whatever mechanical means that keep her organs doing whatever they do, and I have no clue what that is. Even if the parents do not accept that there is a financial motive to whoever is reinforcing their belief that their daughter is still living, I bet a buck that there is. there always is.

I agree with what you're saying. I'm just saying that most rational people see a clear delineation once brain death is declared. That's what's different here.

The Facebook page has updated messages and :scared: a picture of her mother kissing her.

At this point, if she is still being sustained on a ventilator and her heart is still beating I'd like one of the knowledgeable medical people here to weigh in on HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE. 8 months ago it was stated quite decisively that a brain dead body would deteriorate in a relatively short period of time. What exactly is really going on here? :confused3

I keep thinking it just can't be real. I read a lot of articles saying what happens to the body when this occurred, so either all of those "experts" were wrong, or this shady family is staging some kind of hoax to keep the funding up. I think its about money, because they pop up every time the donation page gets stale.
