13 Days, Family O' 7 $2642 Budget!

Where in Kansas are you? I ask because starting October 1, Allegiant will be flying direct from Wichita to Orlando for $79 per person/one way.

Now, I have a LOT more of this thread to read...

~B :)

I am loving reading.
One thing we brought home from our last trip was the Mickey shaped tray/plates (like tv dinner trays) kid meals were served on. My boys used them tonight for supper for their supper of chili, corn muffins and pudding. They have made it since our Nov. 2005 trip and go through the dish washer everyday or so.

Oh yeah!!! I forgot about those, we did that too, only ours after several rides thru the dishwasher got pretty warped!:scared1:

We have soo much to look forward to!!! Can't wait!!!:goodvibes

Ours have survived just fine, but only go through the dishwasher on the top shelf. We also have the last few kid cups floating around the house. As a stay at home mom ( I do sub. teach some) I love all of your money saving tips.

That's usually what does me in!! I put them on the bottom!:upsidedow

Well Dh nixed taking our van, his reasons are trunk space(seriously small space) gas mileage, reliability, and finally.....more leg room?? And he just doesn't trust the "Mystery Machine" to go so far.pirate:

I don't know what day you are planning on doing Melbourne and the beach, but for now, our local Wendy's has kids' meals for 99 cents on Thursday between 4 and 7. We've been going there every week.

AWESOME!!!:cheer2: Thursday it is! Feel free to pop over and join us!!:grouphug:

TNK, I am very impressed with your budget. However, I was not sure that you understood that the AAA Parking Pass does not give you free parking, it only allows you to use special parking areas in the various parks' lots. Also, we stayed at FW Cabins last week and even though we had the resort parking certificate on our dash, my DH still had to show a picture ID to get into FW. I don't know if this was just this one guard that was being so strict or what, but you might have some problems staying offsite and only coming to FW to watch the movies. Also, DD and resort parking are becoming more difficult to use to avoid paying the fee to park because of the return to DD or staying at the resort for an extended period of time. Especially, if you are planning on staying at MK until midnight, I am not sure if the busses are still available to DD from the park at that time of night. I know lots of people do this, so they would be a better source of info than I, but it just seemed like Disney is becoming more security concious, which means easy access to the resorts, etc. for those that are not Disney resort guests is more and more difficult.

Good luck with your vacation plans, although it sounds like you have it all planned out.

Sharon

Have you ever watched "Supersize Me"? Really Mcscary!!:scared1:

My DS's ages 7 & 9 watched this with me and neither will eat Mcnuggets anymore. Ask them why and they will tell you "nuggets are made up from old hens who no longer lay eggs" :rotfl: DS7 wants to quit eating meat totally now.

You usually have to show picture id to get onto resort property(unless you are a registered guest of that resort and use your room key to go through the gate). They will ask why you are coming to visit the resort and give you a parking "permit", usually with a time limit on it. Varies with resort and reason for visit in my experiance. They will then direct you to the best place to park. Going to FW to watch movie is no problem for a non resort guest.

Wow TNKBELL, I've just read through this thread and referred back to your old trip report and I just want to say you are such an inspiration! I appreciate all your efforts in posting all your ideas! Way to go...:thumbsup2

Well this thread has inspired me to cut down our eating out bills & some other things. I saw that alot of people with family's the size of mine or bigger are eating out at fast food for about 1/3 of what we do. I don't keep soda in the house so we always each get a drink and that really adds up! So I have made a deal with the kids that we all start ordering off the value menus and drink water and I will buy some lemonade for an occasional treat at home....:rotfl:
More money saved means more Disney trips....
I love this thread and am so impressed with all the budgeting skills!!!

I consider myself to be on the frugal side, but no way this would work for our family. I do have 2 CM DDs, so that really helps, but when we go, we want to spend as much time as we can enjoying the things we love the most in all the parks. I do laundry and don't mind cooking (when we do my scrapbook shows, we often are having soup in our room in the evenings). I grew up travelling Europe in a 15' trailer with our family of 5, so I think that plays into my idea of "vacation" somewhat w/ my own DDs. :rolleyes1

that said, Earl of Sandwich is also a less expensive place to eat...the sandwiches are HUGE ($5.75 ea), so we get 2 meals out of them (well, Mr-Ultra-Metabolism doesn't, but he's in a grocery line item all his own... :lmao: )

As far as free souvenirs go, at Epcot, there is the plastics display inside the Innovations building. Kids get to "build" a computer robot and race it (lots of fun), then afterward, get to put together a plastic one to take home for free. There are also the masks at the World Showcase and now they've added KidCot stations in Future World, too, which allows for a little sit down and a little creativity. There is also Club Cool where you can stop in for a refreshing Cultures of the World lesson with free soda samples. ;) You can make your own autograph books and collect autographs, making a scrapbook later with your own photos; it's fun to try to get hard-to-find characters. Take lots of photos, not just of the family, but of the details, the architecture, etc.

Another can-be-inexpensive souvenir is trading pins. I buy them from eBay from a seller that runs about $2/pin (sort of a grab bag), then DDs can trade them for the ones they really like. They recently got quite a few "hidden Mickey" pins and some CM exlusives by trading.

In DTD, there is a store that sells grab bags (I thought they were around $7?) that usually has all kind of fun stuff. My 11yo penny pincher LOVES these and takes great joy in adding up the retail cost of what was in the bag.

ETA: we also buy something called Real Lemon (in the baking aisle) and carry the packets with us to add to water bottles, plus a few packets of sweetener/sugar/stevia powder and you have lemonade. Most of the time, we drink water, but sometimes, we just need a little pick-me-up!

I have a question about the MNSSHP tix. Do you have to buy regular tix to get in too?
Cause it looks like she is just adding the cost of the MNSSHP tix only.
I am not sure because I have never been to the party and was just wondering.

Nope, the MNSSHP/MVMCP/P&P tickets will get you in at 4 (or 430)pm on that ticket alone. You are given a wristband and have the full run of the park. If you get there at 4 and stay until midnight, it is a good value, IMO.

That's why MNSSHP is such a great deal! Same goes for the Christmas one. (haven't had the priveledge of that yet)

I'm blown away. I don't have the discipline to do half of your proposed plan. lol

I have a feeling that you're so good with a budget that you manage to get most of your groceries free by utilizing sales and coupons, too!

I did think of something while going down the road today. (i read the thread yesterday) Some car dealerships rent their used vehicles.

I used to work for an entertainment producer. We did lots of casino entertainment (impersonators... that kind of thing). Anyway, we'd set up entertainers in condos, but instead of renting vehicles thru car rental places, I'd always call dealerships first. They always had better prices than any rental place. You may want to call around!

That's about the only tip I have. Looks like most of the bases are covered.

Have fun and good luck!

Hmm... Interesting! I'll check it out!! Thanks for the tip!!:thumbsup2
BTW....I'm unfortunately too lazy or I would do a better job with couponing and the like!!! I have the desire but the energy has been drained!!:grouphug:

Wow, I am definitely impressed!! I am very frugal minded too!

I'm a SAHM of 2 little girls, I plan on homeschooling. I bargain hunt and try to bring in extra money doing misc things on the computer.

I also have a small grocery budget for my family (4 people). My budget for groceries/household/baby/stamps/clothes and even yard sale money is $50 a week. We eat good too! (good foods I mean, not cheap stuff) I use coupons and rebates and stockpile things. I trade coupons and when I need clothes, I collect coupons for $10 off $10 at JCPenney & Kohls and get things on sale, they end up being close to free. I just got 2 new $45 pairs of shoes & nice sunglasses for $2.48! I keep on the lookout for deals for my husband's clothes. I got him 3 pairs of Oxford shoes for $20 one time online (total). I also buy/sell on craigslist & cheapcycle (yahoo group) and I use freecycle as well. My girls clothes come from yard sales, but also from Gymboree. I buy from the sales racks and then sell the on ebay when they outgrow them, usually for a profit. We take care of our stuff and don't buy too much. I've learned to be content with what I have, whether it's a lot or not much, and also "waste not want not".

As far as formula, I trade for formula checks on trading boards and get it free, and for diapers, I found a clearance sale at KMart a few months ago and stocked up. I got 2 1/2 years worth of diapers in all sizes for under $100 with coupons and the clearance prices!

I make my own baby food. I stocked up on baby wipes when they were on sale and I used coupons and got them for .25-.50 a tub. I also shop end of the year clearance sales. Yard sales are great around here too. I've gotten my dh nice Tommy shirts, jeans & khakis for .25-.50 a piece. I've also gotten my dd brand new stride right shoes for $1!:woohoo:

Anyway, sorry for going OT, but those are some tips for keeping my budget small (in case anyone was wondering!):goodvibes

We usually go to Disney on a budget, our trip in Feb will be the first time we've ever "splurged". We're still staying in a budget resort and I'm looking for package deals and we'll be doing the dining plan. But I'm thankful to be in a position that we don't have to scrimp as much as we have in the past.

Anyway, I've really enjoyed reading this post and all your tips!! Have a great time!!

Jennifer

P.S. A rotiserrie chicken would also feed our family for 2-3 meals. A bag of salad around here is about $2, most of the time they are on sale for $1-$1.50 and I make my own bread in a bread machine (it's easy!). ;)

Momof2disneybabies...Congrats on your new little Blessing!!!:cutie:
You are an example of living well on a shoestring!!! Thanks for the inspiration!:cheer2:
