I would guess it is the same for many online computer jobs.
First you go to school for many years studying computer, probably some psychology (how people think), probably lot of child psychology if you want to deal online with kids, if you are actually interested in designing how it looks then that is another whole lot of years at art school, and if you want to create games you should study game theory.
Then after many many years and lots of money, then one day you have a degree in computer science, with majors in the arts and other things, then you go to work for some company at the lowest paying position and spend many more years trying to work your way up the ladder. You will probably work for many different companies if you want an online job, if you are very good and very very lucky you might be chosen to work for something like VMK.
Trust me, it will be "work" a real job -- not just fun playing on a computer for a couple of hours a day.
