12 Year Old Shot Dead Running from Police

Well I'll wait to make a call until further information comes out. If the trooper felt the shot was fired at him from the boy, I can understand his use of deadly force. I think it's a very unfortunate incident and very sad. As much as we hold police officers to higher standards (as they should be as they are enforcing the law) they are human, too. And sometimes they make mistakes with deadly consequences. Prayers are being said for all the people and families involved.

Usually the police try absolutely everything they can to make sure no harm is done. There is probably more to this story than meets the eye.

Ranatra,
We've had quite the week, newswise - haven't we? First the beating of the man in the Diner restroom because he wasn't a Steelers fan (early Tues. morning, he died a couple of hours later) and then the 12 yr. old's death.

Sounds like there will be a thorough investigation........ the family question whether the child actually stole the vehicle.

Several questions come to mind.

Why was the 12 year old running from the police?

What would make the first officer fall and make the second officer believe he was shot?

If the family believes the officers are "innocent until proven guilty", then why does the article open with them calling the officers muderers?

Truly a tragedy for all involved. It will be interesting to hear more details regarding this incident before making any snap judgements in either direction.

Why would a 12 year old black child run from the police?
Well-reputation of racism comes to mind. Hmmm-A gun had been
discharged; I'd run too. Maybe he did steal the car-does that warrant shooting him in the back? An officer of the law does
not fire on anyone unless he is sure he is underfire-at least
they aren't supposed to...clearly an error was made here. If
a citizen shoots someone in an accident-isn't manslaughter
still the charge? Manslaughter falls into the murder charge
last I knew. Sorry to you police officers and families or friends
of....a few bad apples have spoiled this whole barrel in
my mind's eye. Innocent until proven guilty-true. Did they follow
the same mores? I don't think so and I'm not suprised, sorry
to say. flame away

shortbun...no point attempting to have any type of discussion with someone whose mind is so obviously closed to any other possibility besides the one they KNOW to be true. Who DO you call when trouble arises an you need help? Surely not the rotten, scandalous police guilty-until-proven-inocent police, I assume?

Happy New Year!

As far as I remember from the story, the kid was running BEFORE the gun was discharged. So the police officer is chasing a fleeing suspect of unknown age, someone who possibly stole a car and possibly is armed. Why run from the police if you have nothing to hide?

The officer hears a gun discharged. How is he supposed to know from where/when?

Sorry, I need to hear more information on this before I can make a judgement. Sounds like it was an accident...
