12 Hollywood Studios Rumors (A Disney Rumors video is on pg. 1) and (an update is on pg. 16)

So you think that people would go on the Spiderman ride as much as they do if it was an Antman ride instead. I agree though about rollercoasters like Hulk. It doesn't matter who it's based on because there isn't much of a story used with those type of rides.

I do know what the ant man does because I'm not into comics. What I do know I'd splash mountain is based on. Song of the South but it does not matter. It's a greatbride. A great ride can be based on any story and a ride based on Spiderman can stink. It's the ride and story that matters. Universal is paying a lot of money to Disney for characters that can only be used in one park. Universal has to maintain them in the first rate standards that Universal has set based on Harry Potter. Universal gets to set the standards and not Disney because all the contra the states is they must be maintained in a first rate manner and that is subject to subjective standards and not objective standards. After all as many have said on the boards Six Flags does not maintain DC characters anywhere near the standards Disney and Universal have but it's not worth the fight for DC because it's hard to fight what is first rate. On the other hand at Universal all anyone has to look at is are the Marvel rides and attractions up to the same standards as Harry Potter. As long as they are Universal is following that portion of the contract and if they fall in comparison to Harry Potter Universal would be in violation. I think everyone here would agree with that. Next Universal has to keep advertising Marvel and sell a certain amount and pay fees according to the contract. I expect Universal to follow the contract the fully until they decide it's no longer in their interest and if Universal is seriously interested in having the worldwide presence Disney has then it is not in their interest to keep the Marvel rights just for one park.

Please if I am wrong explain why I am. Why would a company want to keep the rights and advertise the attractions when Disney will be advertising them and having attractions based on the characters all over the world, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Anaheim. Additionally how much longer will it be until India, South America and or Africa get their own Disney Park. Universal will eventually give up the rights because it's in their best interest to develop and maintain a consistent product.

This is why I continue to hold out hope for Marvel at DHS. As iron-clad as those rights might be at this particular moment in time, there will come a point that it just has to end. Somebody will pay the price, literally (Disney) or figuratively (Universal), when it's just not worth it anymore. Universal will take DC (which I understand was already part of the whole Warner Bros. deal with Harry Potter?...guess Six Flags would be the loser there?), and WDW will have access to its big Marvel names. I have high hopes for significantly improved Star Wars and Pixar lands at DHS, but would love to see any refurb yield some flexibility to save (or readily convert) some space for two or three Marvel attractions.

Universal isn't going to give disney the rights because one it would be costly and two they would have to find new themes for their existing rides. What would you change Spider-Man to? Or hulk? Yes universal will eventually give up the rights but it's going to be a very long time until then like maybe 15-20 years or longer. The first disney marvel attraction to open will be iron man in Hong Kong in 2016 so there isn't many attractions yet and I don't see there being a lot until disney has full rights. Shanghai might get something but as for the rest of the parks it's going to be a while.

I agree with Rteetz, there is no way Universal is going to give up their Marvel characters, the same goes for Six Flags with its DC heroes. They make so much long term money off of them, much like Disney does with Mickey Mouse. They are loved characters that my father has grownup with, I've grown up with and my children would growup with.

They'll continue to sell forever because there are always going to be fans of them. Spiderman has been around since the 60's and Batman and Superman even before that. They have a hardcore and mainstream fan base for each of them.

Marvel is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Six flags has many theme parks all with DC rides that would cost a lot to retheme all of them. Disney just got their Oswald rights back from universal these are things that these companies would never want to get rid of unless they absolutely have to.

I don't think these rumors are true, but I would love to see these attractions. Hopefully Disney has a few people searching the internet because these look like game changing attractions.

Universal's new Harry Potter expansion would looks like a traveling carnival in comparison to this one.

Poster on another message board is raising a rumor about a Frozen stage show at the Premiere Theater along with a meet and greet and Frozen themed fireworks show all at DHS.

The price Universal is paying for the Marvel characters is probably a HUGE bargain. This contract was made back when Marvel was near bankruptcy and over two years before the explosion of new Marvel movies started with the first Spiderman movie. The amount they have to pay can only be increased at the rate of inflation. The value of these characters has increased a rate many times greater then that. If Universal got rid of Marvel they would likely have to license a new IP to replace it. I highly doubt they would find another IP as popular as Marvel for anywhere near the price they currently pay Disney.

As for the advertising, Disney regularly shows the Harry Potter films on ABC Family and actually runs commercials for Wizarding World. All the major media companies are interconnected by a web of licensing deals, the Marvel one isn't unique. Uni Orlando is on the doorstep of one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. As long as Marvel is popular, and they are the only ones offering it in Orlando, it will continue to be a draw for them.

I have not read this whole thread, so I apologize if this has been asked or discussed...but it seems to me that 50's Prime Time will no longer "fit" the themeing in that area if Star Wars takes over. As well as maybe Sci-Fi, unless they run Star Wars clips on the screen, which at this point would actually be more appealing me than what they run now. We LOVE the atmosphere of Sci-Fi, I'm just not into the movie clips. The only reason I endure them now is for nostalgia sake.

So, any word on these two iconic and loved restaurants? Should I book ADRs for January 2015 with the thought that it could be our last meal there for next 1-2 years and by that time the restaurant possibly closed? TIA! :scratchin

I think it is pretty certain 50's prime time will stay sci-fi maybe not. I think 50's is in an area that would not be affected by this expansion. A lot of things are showing a star wars expansion would be in the echo lake area with the entrance to it where american idol is now. If that happen sic-fi is right there and would most likely be gone unless they retheme it (which disney could do "cheap"). prime time is off to the side more which i think may be safe. I wouldn't worry too much tho.

I agree that Universal will not give up the rights in the next 10 to 15 years. Sometime in the 2020's Universal Japan loses the Marvel rights. Second issue is that there is now an arena show of Marvel characters going around the country and will even play in Orlando. Third Disney can set up meet and greets of all the Marvel characters at Disney Springs and not violate the contract. Disney Springs is not a theme park. They could even build a store across the street from Universal and have a meet and greet there. Eventually universal will have rides all around the world based on other characters and decide it's in their interest to just give up the rights.

Disney is not going to set up meet and greets at Disney springs. It's like you said not a theme park Disney is not going to have big meet and greets at a place that does not have an admission. Disney is smarter than that. Most universal attractions are not theirs they have to go out and buy the rights which makes it even more costly for them.

They would set up a meet and greet at a store if they thought it would sell Blu-Rays maybe for a big launch? In the same way that an author does a book signing?

Disney doesn't let their characters be used outside Disney World or their parks. If they want to promote a movie they will always do it on property. They would never lower their standards and allow them to appear at a local supermarket.

No they wouldn't characters in costume don't go outside the parks. Disney would not set up characters at stores around the country, Disney is not stupid. Also if they were going to do that they would have done it already especially with frozen so you may want to rethink that idea. Book signings are not character meet and greets two different things.

I could be wrong, but I think this line of the thread has veered off course. Pretty sure the thought/suggestion was that Marvel characters could legally appear at Downtown Disney (Disney Springs) without violating the contract with Universal....and that there could certainly be opportunities where that would make sense (e.g., a new movie coming out or whatever). I don't think the person originally posting this idea was suggesting that Captain America and Iron Man park themselves outside of a supermarket or in stores around the country...but rather test the waters of that contract by having them appear once in a blue moon somewhere at Downtown Disney only....maybe opening a Marvel store and doing this at a grand opening and occasionally therafter. It would still be Disney property and presumably Disney could possibly even set up some sort of FastPass and/or MagicBand option for such a meet-and-greet (meaning that only Disney park guests could do it...thereby avoiding the question of whether they would ever allow this to happen without charging some sort of entry fee).

I know they are different things and they don't do it currently. I was just blue sky thinking of how they MIGHT have a meet and greet at Disney Springs, in response to a previous posters speculation.

I never mentioned them appearing at a Supermarket. I was replying to a previous poster speculating about characters appearing at Disney Springs. World of Disney often make big displays of the current films merchandise. Why not have a Marvel store and do a big merchandise launch there?

Yes you did take my post exactly as I intended it. So many universal fans keep talking about the contract as if Disney can't use the characters anywhere at WDW but that isn't true. The contract actually only covers the rights to use them in theme parks. I agree it's unlikely that Disney would use them in a store but what about starting a marvel themed restaurant? Now that would be an interesting idea and one that could easily put in Disney Springs. I am sure that Disney can think of other ways to use Marvel Characters at WDW that would not violate the contract and would still allow people to enjoy the Marvel Characters but just not on rides.

Correct marvel cane be used in WDW but not in the theme parks. They have already done some of this like the monorail wraps on the resort line. I don't see a marvel restaurant in disney springs, because again disney springs doesn't do things like that. It's a downtown district for shopping, food, and entertainment. Disney wants to keep those character experiences in the parks. Disney can and is using guardians of the galaxy in the parks because that is not under the contract it's mainly only the avenger characters. They are doing guardian previews at DHS. Disney could also technically build a guardian ride but unless it gets to avenger status I don't see that happening.
