My DS's Kindergarten class is doing the 12 Days of Christmas and parents are bringing in something to represent each day. For example, the first day was one pencil, the second day two clementines. Well, I have been assigned day 8 and I need an idea for eight somethings I can give to 20 kids-for a reasonable price. I was thinking about 8 small candy canes or 8 Hershey kisses-something along those lines but I need a cute way to present them. I'd love to hear some ideas from my budget minded friends here on the Dis since you come up with such great ideas.

Since the 8th day is maids a milking, how about something with a cow on it? At Party City they have little cow flashlights (really tiny) - maybe 50 cents to $1.00 each (?) or maybe 8 cow stickers for each child?

What about 8oz. of milk? I don't know if you can find a milk carton with 8 oz. in it.:confused3

I like 8 Hersheys kisses...it fits great in the song...

"Eight Hersheys kisses!"

That's a really cute idea but I can't help but feel for the family who gets the 12th day. ($$$)

Otehr ideas could be Milk Duds or (pricier) bite size Milky Ways. Maybe package them with the verse from the song. and maybe wrapped in cow fabric? (I like the cow sticker idea too.)

Check with your school first before you send candy. Last year the fed. passed a nutrion law. We are not allowed to give any kind of candy for any reason at our school. (I teach Kindergarten.) Some school follow the mandate more closely than others.

I think that you could do 8 of the mini erasers per child. You can find them by the gross sometimes, and cheaply. I am pretty sure Party City would have the seasonal ones now.

This sounds expensive!

I'd hate to be the one with the number 12 also. If there are 20 kids, some of them aren't participating.

How about pennies.

I'm rather impressed that you can do anything Christmas related! It has to be all winter-related in our school district.

I like the crayons and penny idea. My thought was 8 popsicle sticks with craft instructions (i.e. stack 4 of them at cross angles to make a snowflake, and 8 sticks would let them make 2 snowflakes).

Have fun! It's really a neat idea.

Great idea! You could offer to come in to help with it. The Kisses would be cute too, maybe wrapped in some netting with ribbons. Number 20 would be getting pennies, that's a cute idea!

Thanks for all the cute ideas so far! I don't think the (8) has to correspond to the song but I'm not sure. I'm going to ask his teacher when I take him today. The first two mom's didn't correlate with the song because they brought one pencil and two clementines but they might not have realized it should.

I'm really liking the crayon idea but I need to find out how much a pack is considering I have to buy 20 of them. :scared1: I love the snowflake idea but not sure I'm crafty enough to explain how it works. ;) Do you just criss cross them to make the snowflake?

You can buy 3 or 4 packs of crayons at the dollar store (we use dollar tree). Before our last disney trip I box 4 boxes (8 crayons on a box) of disney crayons.

I personally like the 8oz milk container with 8 mini oreos for each kid. You could get the milk from the school lunch room if you call ahead of time (in our school it is .45 cents a container) and a large box of mini oreos divided into little zip lock bags of 8.

Lay two popsicle sticks so it looks like a plus sign, and lay two more popsicle sticks over that like a multiplication sign. You would have to use glue to keep it in place. If you make them ahead of time, use hot glue. If you bring them in unassembled for the kids to do, I would bring in a completed one (as an example) and then give them the instructions to take home to Mom and Dad.

I'm sure whatever you decide on will be very much appreciated by the teacher and the students.
