12 category for 4 people?

I'm confused.
I was able to get a quote from DCL and another TA for a cat 12 for 2 adults and 2 kids, but not from some other TAs online. Several showed a cat 12 not being able to accommodate 4 people and I had to get a quote for a cat 11 instead.

Anyone know the scoop? Does DCL book the cat 12 for 4 people and then bump us up to a cat 11 without us knowing when we book?

Thanks for any info! I'm about to book!

Some TA's and DCL will book 4 in a Cat 12 GTY knowing full well that you won't be in that category. They will bump you up to a Cat 11, at least.....I am not sure why they do this and I don't know if it is available all the time or just if their inventory allows it sometimes...

Thanks. So I should go with the cheaper cat 12 quote and disregard the slightly more expensive quote from another TA for a cat 11 cause we'll end up in a cat 11 anyway???

I would...Knowing that a cat 12. will not be big enough anyway...Just keep in mind that you have no control of your upgrade (re: room location), and if you pay more for the cat.11, you most likely have a room option right now...
:goodvibes

When we booked with DCL for our May 2006 cruise, we booked a cat12 GTY and we are 2ad and 2 kids. I inquired about this and the DCL clerk told me that we would automatically be assigned at least a cat 11 GTY because we are 4 guests. I was told from other travel agencies that I couldn't get cat12 Gty because of the amount of guests per room, but Disney goes right ahead and does it anyways for the price of a cat 12...Worth it to me.

I will take a chance on being assigned ANY room as long as I'm on that ship when it sails!!!!! I really couldn't afford more since I have to figure all the extra expenses that come aside from te price of the cruise: Tips, excursions, souvenirs, pctures, bingo etc.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe cat. 12 and 11 are the same size. The difference is location.

according to the site, Cat. 12 only will sleep 3. It is the same cabin as Cat. 11 that sleep only 3. The lay out for the cabin in cat. 11 for 4 is slightly different because of the pull down bed.

There is not a difference in the size for cabins in Cat. 12 and Cat. 11 for 3, it is just rearranged for Cat. 11 for 4.

Also, some 12 and 11 sleep 3 and some sleep 4.

According to different websites, including DCL's, they are indeed 184 sq. feet a piece... Cat 12 is said to sleep only 3 people, and cat 11 3 0r 4..

However, I was under the impression ( :confused3 ) that the cat 12's were refurbed to accomodate a family of 4? Then people here said no...So, I wonder what the REAL deal is????

ANd cat 12's are only on deck 1...

Sorry Mommasita, I was editing while you were posting because I jumped on the site to check it out myself.

sorry for so many posts, but I didn't want to get caught again.

I believe the cat. 12 are only on deck 2 according to the DCL site.

I'm not sure what the deal is, why can't the 12's and 11's that only sleep 3 not be redone for 4? Maybe there is not enough space in the wall?

I just remembered being surprised to see my sister's cabin (cat. 11 for 4). But it was just a little different.

DCL does sell Cat. 12 guarantee's to families of 4. When they
offer it, it is a great value!!!! Because we have heard the same as
you all have mentioned in the other posts, that DCL said that the
least the guests would get would be a Cat. 11 :)

BUT, to make sure and we were taught never assume :) here is
the direct number to DCL 800-511-1333 and you can ask them and
make sure that you get the same answer. This way, if all works out
you will pay for a Cat. 12 which is less expensive and who knows
what you might all end up with.

From what we know the Cat. 12's still only sleep 3 :)

Good Luck, let us know how it works out.

All Category 12s do indeed only sleep up to 3 people, and it used to be that DCL would not book a category 12 for 4 people. Lately they have been booking them (as a guarantee) and you are indeed put into a category 11. However, generally the pricing in a category 12 and 11 are almost identical (not usually more than a $40 difference.) Sometimes the category 11 is less expensive on a sail date than a category 12, and sometimes they are exactly the same.

As a travel agent, if a client requests a category 12, and the pricing is the same as the 11, I will put them in a category 11. If the 11 is less expensive I will give them the 11 also.

Some people prefer knowing their cabin location ahead of time, so booking the category 11 with a stateroom assignment might be better than a category 12 guarantee. At least you know where you will be on the ship.

I would suggest booking whichever you are most comfortable with, and if the TA has said they cannot book the category 12 because of your party size, ask if they will check again.

Let's not forget, we booked with DCL a family of 4 Cat 12 gty for 3564.00 and will be getting a cat 11 GTy which goes for 4372.00.

I know I would not have been able to afford a cat 11.....so getting this and the savings REALLY works for me.
