We have the dining package for this, but do we need it for that day and the 5:00 show? Decided to not doing the dining plan, really don't feel like spending about $230 for a lunch if we don't have to..

If you don't have the CP I would get in line at least 60 minutes before showtime. Even for the 5pm show.

The 6th is going to be tricky, Epcot may be dead b/c everyone will be jostling around in MK trying to be part of FLE opening but then again by 5pm enough people have be fed up with MK's crowds and be heading over to Epcot. Or may be heading over there to start with b/c they figure everyone will be packed into MK. There is really no way to tell.
