12/29/07 Western - New Year's Eve

Hey All,

Did anyone book one of the 2009 dates yet? How about the new itineriaries? What do you think? Just curious, since we are so close, unless you were wanting a Cat. 1-3, couldn't you wait to book on the boat and receive your discount and room credit? Just a thought! Hope everyone is having a great week! BRRRR! it's 27*, I hate cold weather, but I love sitting a by the fire. I'm off today to take DH to have facet injections in his back. He was in a really bad MVA in 2002, and we've been everywhere and tried everything. Hope this gives him some relief.

Glad to hear you had some rain!!

Pam

Noel, glad you are getting the needed rain!

Kate, cool! Maybe we can catch up the night before in the airport hotel!

Pam, I checked out the '09 dates, but don't know if we can swing another cruise - i have to still pay on my Sept. 2008 cruise.. LOL But who knows.. ;)

Pam:

We are not going to book any new DCL cruises until the new ships come out as we have done all of the itineraries and are looking for something new.

Rain was fleeting, I guess but at least we are not as cold. I am a warm weather person and particularly dislike the cold.

Sorry to hear about your DH and his pain. Hope his injections give him some pain relief!!

We will be going to WDW hopefully on Friday night as it is open until 3 AM.

Not too much rain, just a teaser!!

From Noel's neighborhood...

I am in San Jose all week working, but this week I am also having some fun. I brought my mom out here on this business trip since her cancer has come back (breast cancer metastized to the lungs) and she is in a cycle with her treatments that she is fairly heathly. So, since she has always wanted to visit San Francisco, I brought her out here for the week.

She is staying on the water in Monterery for a few days, I am going to pick her up tonight and she is staying at my hotel in San Jose for the evening. I will wrap up my work for the week tomorrow mid-day and then we are going up to SF for Thursday afternoon and Friday. We will see the GG bridge, Lombard Street, normal tourist spots and stay on the water in Sausalito tomorrow night, visit Muir Woods and perhaps drive up to Sonoma.

Anyway, a casual tour with my mom -- enjoying the time together.

It did rain, but in Monterey the winds caused by the storm were >20 feet and a surfer died and a crab boat was missing.

Wow! If this what you get when you get rain here, I'll stick with my Midwestern thunderstorms.

Anyway, just got word that there was a problem with our hotel reservation for Friday night before the cruise. Instead of two rooms for one night, we have one room for two nights without the ability to get a second room. Ouch. So we are looking for an alternate place to stay Friday night. Hyatt MCO is full. I am thinking about doing one of the Disney properties so we can take advantage of the Magical Express for geting our luggage through MCO, and visiting the parks on Friday night. Breakfast at the resort. Limo picking us up in the AM geting to the port early. But now, I must find a place to stay...

Actually now I must get back to work, actually lunch, then work.

Jim:

Sorry to hear about your Mom's breast cancer recurrence. I hope you and she will enjoy Monterrey and San Francisco. If you need any suggestions or help with the San Francisco leg of your trip, please be sure to pm me.

Northern California at the beach is certainly not warm in the winter but waves can be deadly. Most people don't go into the water in the winter but surfers are the exception.

The seas down in Monterrey are know for this particular phenomenon at the Ghost Trees area. If you check this site, you will see he was planning on participating in a contest called the Mavericks surf contest whose waiting period will officially begin on December 7th.

What a huge hassle about your rooms at the Hyatt MCO. I am there on December 20, 21 and January 5. Have you called them to try to straighten it out?

Our plans thus far are that we are taking a limo from the Hertz car return area on Saturday morning.

Noel

Jim - I think it is wonderful you have your mom on your trip with you!

Got snow here last night - not too much but it is COLD! Can't wait to cruise.

pirate:

Noel: Melissa was thrilled to see the list of the movies you posted - some she wants to see again and some we missed. Even tho the critics hated it Mike and Melissa watched Wild Hogs twice on our June cruise LOL.

Glad to hear she liked the list. Any other questions about the cruise, just let me know!! I haven't seen Wild Hogs but looks like a fun movie!!

Hey All,

Jim, sorry to hear about your Mom. My mom has had breast cancer, and she went yesterday for her yearly check-up. Thankfully she got a good report, but there is always that thought lingering in your mind. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Enjoy this special time together.

DH appointment was rough, 8 injections in his back. He's very uncomfortable, it will be a long night. He and my DS are watching Pirates at Worlds End for the 5th time since yesterday. And yes, we have snow. Can't wait for the cruise.

Pam:yay:

Pam:

I am glad to hear your mom is in remission from her breast cancer. Since my younger sister died of ovarian cancer in 2004, we are very conscious about getting checked regularly.

You poor DH!! I hope that he didn't have too rough of a night and that he is pain free today!!

No snow here except on rare occasions. We are supposed to have rain showers today but it hasn't started yet. Can't wait for the warmth of the Caribbean!!

Noel

Jim, So sorry to hear about your mom's health.. i know it must be awfully tough, but what a blessing to have her with you on this SF trip! That's what it's all about.

I will be keeping your mom and Pam's DH in my prayers so that they may feel better.

According to DCL, these are the movies that will be showing onboard:
National Treasure 2
Wild Hogs
Meet the Robinsons
Bridge to Terabithia
POC Worlds End
POC Dead Man's Chest
Ratatouille
Underdog
Dan in Real Life
Enchanted
Game Plan

These look like great movies I am excited!! I have only seen the 1st POTC movie, so i am looking forward to the others.. Also, wanted to see Wild Hogs - that movie looked so funny! Also excited to see NT2!
DD will be looking forward to Game Plan and Enchanted! DH will be looking forward to Underdog (most of that movie was filmed right outside my DH's work in Providence, and he would go on his lunch breaks out to watch them film.. once me and my dd went too, it was so neat to see a Disney movie in the works!!) :thumbsup2

How fun to have a movie filmed outside your DH's office!! I can't believe we have only 22 days more to go. I actually have 2 weeks until I fly into MCO!! We have been waiting for this cruise since we booked on 3/11/2006 which seems eons ago!!

Kate:

How scary!! Did you have to deplane and take another flight? We are staying at the Hyatt MCO on the way back.

Noel

They landed - we were met by firetrucks, took us off the plane, fixed it and re-boarded the passengers. Some had already said they were done for the day and left, some found alternate flights, but by the time we made it to the front of the line to find different flights the plane was fixed. I wasn't thrilled to get on the same plane, but it was either that or miss the cruise. There aren't many available seats out of Vegas on a Friday. We wouldn't have made the ship if we left Saturday. I still am frightened to get on a plane, but I can't hide in my house forever - I like to travel too much.

Jim,

I'm sorry to hear about your mom's health, but it's great that she could make the trip with you. I'm sure you will both enjoy your time together.

My daughter and I both love going to the movies, so we've already seen most of them, but I'm sure we'll enjoy seeing them again on-board. We can't wait to see National Treasure 2 - we loved the first one. I was excited to see that it will be showing on the ship.

I can imagine it was very scary to get back on the plane but the trip to the mouse won!!

Samantha's boyfriend Nick's family live in Las Vegas in a gated community she thinks about 15-20 minutes from Downtown. She has know Nick since they were both about 16 and now have reconnected since he moved to Los Angeles. His family used to live at Lake Tahoe and that is how they met!!
