12/24/08 Christmas Cruise on the Wonder

JoDale are you out there? We haven't heard from you in a while! I do hope you haven't had to cancel!

Sorry to hear about your daughter Brenda glad to hear she is ok.:goodvibes

Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes Adrianna:goodvibes

Thanks Lynda for the offer:goodvibes

Courtney hope you are feeling ok. The only way to get rid of my bloat is to quit eating so much crap!:rotfl2: BTW is the closest/cheapest airport to Galveston is to fly into Houston?:hippie:

Yep. Feeling fine. Just hungry all the darn time. At least food tastes right now. The old tongue is almost back 100% from tasting everything weird and metallic. I'm working on not eating all the crap too. Soup helps fill me up without all the calories. :thumbsup2

As for the airport, yep. Since you are going to Galveston check George Bush (used to be Intercontinental) or Hobby. I don't know which one will be cheaper but I would bet Hobby. And you'll have to drive anyways, or get a transfer. Thinking of a cruise???? :rolleyes1

 We have staterooms! Our TA sent us our room #s today - we have connecting rooms 7080 and 7082! Makes it feel so much more real now!:cool1:

I have been out of the loop, or just loopy. On 4 different meds right now, recovering from my inner ear surgery on Tuesday. Thought about you while I spent the entire day at Baylor, Courtney. OR nurses are the best! My surgery got bumped back for an emergency, so I had to wait about 6 hours from arrival until going to the OR, but I was just glad to get it done. The day of surgery is the worst. I went out for a little while with my mom today - confirmed that I am NOT ready to go back to work quite yet! DM went to pick up the kids from school, and I am heading back to bed for a nap. Just had to share the news!

Annette, sorry you won't be doing the FE's - hope everything is ok. I know things are crazy here, and I have way too much on my plate, so I understand. I am just trying to not let my job take over my whole life right now!

Congrats on your upgrade, Brenda! And on your cruise, Adrianna!

P.S. Yes, my girls love to play microphone. DS, not so much, but he is too "cool" for lots of things lately.

Here is the updated FE list with our room #s. I see I have lots of neighbors on deck 7!

Awww, thanks! We try. We are usually the nameless angels. You guys (patients) have the hard part. I can only imagine how messed up your equilibrium is right now trying to get used to everything. Hopefully it won't take too long. Were you at Big Baylor (aka Baylor Dallas?)? Who did the surgery? I probably know them. I used to work at UT Southwestern so a lot of the guys over there also go to BUMC.

It is quite exciting to get a stateroom number, isn't it! :woohoo: Glad to see you are on the same deck as us. We will all clog up the stairs and elevators trekking down to Deck 2 to visit Adrianna and her family. That's okay...it's TOTALLY worth it!

Now what makes you think that:rotfl2:

My lowest quote for Oasis was 8825.00cad:scared1:

So we are looking at a 7 day western out of Galveston:goodvibes It is almost 4 grand cheaper.:goodvibes

Brenda-

Please pass on to Val that I hope she feels better soon, and I am sorry about the accident. I'll add her to my prayer list. I'm sure she'll put her chin up, flash that lovely smile and face the day as beautifully as ever.

Adrianna

PS She really is such a pretty youg woman!

Awww Thank you Adrianna. I will pass on your well wishes to her. Your prayers will mean alot to her. She really was touched by your sweet nature when she met you. Not much glimpse of her smile yet. She just found out today they totaled the car,and after it's paid off there won't be anything left for a down pmt on a new car.:sad2: Looks like the insurance on the truck was expired, so she is going to have to take him to court for her medical, loss of wages, and reimbursment of a rental car.

Not sure if I congratulated you on your Baltic Booking...so congrats!

Whooohoo! Congrats on having room #'s Shari! Nothing like getting that number:thumbsup2
Thank you for the congrats, we're pretty happy. Just paid the extra a little while ago. Now we are all set but the packing...Is it time to go yet?:hyper:

Thank you for the well wishes for our daughter Annette.:flower3: She is thankful for people who care enough to wish her well.

You will love Galveston. It is one of my favorite places:worship: Actually, Dale and I have talked about moving there once the twins are safely in college and out of our house. Being from Canada, you will most likely fly into Bush Intercontinental. It is a pretty easy airport to get around in. Go at least a day or two prior so you can check out the strand, and Moody Gardens. If you decide to book, let me know, and I'll toss out some places to stay.:thumbsup2

:scared1: When are you trying to go??? DH and I are looking but for September. For a Cat D1 we are only paying $2200 for the two of us. Holy guacamole Batman!! I would love to take the Voyager (or is it the Navigator) out of Galveston when she is here and to take the kids with us.

Depending on when you are going, I would think twice about visiting Galveston right now. I'll have to send some pictures. Heck, I'm from Houston and I'm not in love with Galveston. It has it's good parts, don't get me wrong. Kemah, one of the good parts down the road from Galveston, is destroyed. It's like a small Atlantic Boardwalk. There was a LOT of damage from Ike. Brenda would be the expert on where to stay though. I never stayed in a hotel in Galveston. It was an hour drive for us. They have talked about whether or not they should rebuild places that were destroyed. There was several blocks of houses that are no longer there. I'll work on those pics right now...

Forget it. I tried. The pics are in a PDF file and I can't upload them, save them, whatever. Too tired to care at the moment. I tried to forward the email to you, Annette, but it's still not liking your address and I copied it just the way you gave it to me. Sent it to you though Brenda. :thumbsup2

yup, It's Voyager:thumbsup2 You are right, I wouldn't try to go right now either. I get a weekly newsletter from Galveston dot com,and they already have quite a few business and hotels up and taking reservations. The Carnival ships that sail weekly from Galveston are scheduled to resume by the end of the month,if not sooner.

I don't know why we like Galveston so much, but we do. Like any other port city, it has it's good and it's bad. Maybe because it is a small island rather than a big city:confused3 Besides, we can't afford property in Florida, so Galveston is the next best thing for us poor folk:rotfl2:

Courtney, you said you are looking at Voyager for Sept? I haven't checked RCCL site lately, but I think Voyager is only in Tx Dec through April. If it's there from Sept. We may have to book for Thanksgiving week.

Oh heck it is way off. 2009 is the year of zero holidays. After three trips to Disney in one year a 6000 dollar summer holiday and purchasing DVC we are taking a breather and socking some more money into retirement.
We requested a quote on Oasis for March 2010 during spring break so prices are higher. It is the Voyager out of Galveston March 28, 2010. A 7 day Western on Disney is 9600.00 and 5040 on RCCL:scared1:

yep, It's a no brainer. That is one of the reasons I like sailing out of Galveston. It's cheaper than most of the cruises from Florida.

Dr. Robert Owens was my surgeon. His dad Fred is also an ear surgeon (otologist is the correct term, I believe) at Baylor - yes, Big Baylor in Dallas. I am on quite a cocktail right now, so I haven't had too much trouble, esp.now the pain is better. Hopefully I will be ready for 7 year olds on Monday - we will be the quietest class in the building! :ssst:

YES, it is! Thanks! I am working on my FE's this week while I am home. Checking my shopping list, trying to come up with Christmas ideas. Keeping my mind occupied since I can't drive or work or anything right now!

Anyone know where I can find kids' swimsuits this time of year?:confused3 Disney website is out of our sizes, and DDs need an extra - they wore their suits out this summer!:sad2:

I went to Gymboree and they had some in the back left over from summer. Cheap, too. My daughter's was $7 or so, marked down from $22.50. Hope that helps.

Hi everyone!

Shari, sounds like you are recovering nicely. You have alot of energy for just having surgery.

I just googled childrens swimsuits and quite a few links came up,so you may want to try that.

It does have it's special stuff. Galveston I mean. I still haven't done everything there. I'm just not thrilled about the quality of the water. But the further south you go down the coast it is MUCH better!! Even an hour south produces nice results. I'd love to take one of the ghost tours.

They say that the damage in Galveston from Ike rivals that of Katrina and New Orleans. The big difference is that alot of the residences in Galveston are second/vacation homes and not primary residences. As you can see from the email I sent you, Brenda, my in-laws sold their property two years ago. I thought they still had it when Ike came.

No, I was looking at Oasis out of Ft Lauderdale for September. Since it's just gonna be me and DH, we aren't worried about doing something out of Galveston. Besides, our only option would be Carnival that time of year. :scared: If the kids enjoy cruising (and I think they will) we will go out of Galveston on RCCL when the Voyager is there.

We are with you honey!! :thumbsup2 We had the same thought. Since Victoria is doing this ambassador trip, we might even skip the skiing. I'd hate to though since the whole reasoning was to teach the kids before Victoria and her Venturing Crew go off on a ski trip from the money they earn from catering local Scout events. We went to WDW in January, bought DVC in February, this cruise and trip to US in December.....It's gonna be hard to focus on the fact that after March 2009 (if we still go skiing or do something small and local) that we won't do any vacations until June 2010!! Of course the kids will though....summer Scout camp, trip to Europe. Us parents will be bored stiff and overworked! :lmao:

Way cheaper and the flight is way shorter also.:thumbsup2

Ain't that the truth!! Our flight is 55 minutes long. Or 4 hours driving with a layover at the in-laws! :woohoo:

Seems our busy lives have caught up with all of us. I seem to always be running these days. It will get better once football and birthdays are over. I'll still have swim, and Lindz is trying her hardest to talk me into holding office. Which means if they don't find anyone else, I will do it.
Hope things calm down for you soon Annette. Sounds like Courtney is right. It's time for a nice cyber drink with good friends

Still here. Still sailing. Paid in full. :thumbsup2 I think BRENDALEE59 nailed it. Things have been incredibly busy. Certainly for our household. I've been reduced to the Lurker mode here on the DIS board. I try to log on at least once a week and read as much as I can but rarely have the time to post. :surfweb: I've fallen asleep more nights than I can count now fully dressed with the lights and TV on. :faint:

Today was another urgent trip to the high school (a frequent enough occurance that the principles, social worker, counselors and admin staff all know me by name) and once again we ended up in the Emergency Room (an all too common occurance as well.) No lasting problem. Just the latest crisis dejour for us.

This cruise is going to be soooo gooood :worship:
oh, and it will be nice to meet you guys in person too :grouphug:

Hi Jodale!

Glad you were able to find time for a quick post. It is good to hear from you. Hope your sick one is feeling better. I'm also reduced to lurker status. I try really hard to make it in here to post at least once a day, but some days it just isn't possible. I will be good to get on that ship. Just hope four days is enough to recharge us for the rest of winter. I already know it isn't enough for me. I have no idea how I got bamboozled into a 4 day cruise when my family knows that just just gets me started:lmao:
