12/16/06 10-day holiday cruise

Sue.....I am so loving hearing about your trip. Years ago (many, many) Jay & I went to Vancouver, and then to Whistler. Back when we still had knees and could ski.
We stayed at a hotel within walking distance to the Bay...and also, if my (poor) memory serves me correctly, fairly close to the gas light (lamp?) district....
We could see the water from the hotel. It wasn't a big hotel...when we entered the lobby, it was a rather open area, with a lounge....and a McDonald's across the street! Does any of this sound familiar?
Whistler only had one set of condos at the time...and one taxi....a guy with a station wagon. Blackcomb hadn't yet built a hotel, but did have their little area with the wooden sidewalks, and shops. I bet it's changed a lot since then. That had to be a good 20 years ago....when I was only 13.
And if anyone believes that, I have a bridge I'll sell you!

Okay...I was unaware that our fantasy 5 had to all of the opposite sex so I'm kicking Ellen off my island and adding Robin Williams. I need to have someone to make laugh, 'cause I have someone that will kick my butt to workout (Luke), someone to sing to me (Josh Groban), someone nice to look at (Michael Vartan...not that Luke isn't nice too!!) and someone to talk Disney to (Walt, of course).

Hi guys.....Asking for some prayers tonight and in the next day or two. There is a fire (actually two fires that joined together) burning very near to our home and they have not been close to containing it....we have friends who have been evacuated (to our kids' middle school) and have most probably lost their homes.

Jay is at a town council meeting. When he gets home, we'll decide whether or not we will go out of town tomorrow as planned. I've been packing pictures, videos, jewelry, cameras.....

So please pray for my friends, if you are so inclined. Thank you!

You and your friends are all in my thoughts tonight. I know losing property is horrible, but I just hope no one is injured, or worse. I don't know what this does to your LV plans, but whatever you decide, I'm sending lots of good thoughts your way, and for your friends also.

The news here has been constant...they say that the fire should go to the Northeast of us...but I can see more flames rising and they are on our side of the hill/mountain.
We will make our decision about going out of town in the morning, when we can get a better idea of how the fire is being handled.
12,000 acres so far. 500 homes evacuated.
I've packed as much as I can for now.

The kids and I are still up. We can't seem to stop watching. It looks like it may be falling back over to the far side of the mountain, but then we'll see flare ups. This is the worst thing about living in the desert. It did rain over our house for about 5-10 minutes....I prayed that it holds its strength and keeps moving north. The firefighters need all the help they can get.

We went into Cave Creek earlier tonight, and I've never seen so many deputies, Firefighters, Forest Service, and National Guardsmen. Plus all the TV vans. Some of the Forest Service's top guys were at Dairy Queen and I heard them on their cell phones. One was calling for back up from Payson. That's quite a ways from here. That same fellow was on TV later tonight.

So we watched this show on cable about the trauma center in Las Vegas. Probably not what we needed to watch. I told Jay they couldn't pay me enough to do Virgil's job.......

Jared made me close all the blinds out here ......he doesn't want to see the lightning from his bedroom. Lightning is what started the fires to begin with.

May as well go to bed. Staring at it doesn't help.

i have no idea where he is. I PMed him a while ago and never heard a response. talked to gregg about a week and a half ago. He seemed fine. I will see if i can't get a hold of him. he worries me.

Its good that the islands are near eachother, b/c whose ever island has harrison ford on it, will be seeing a lot of me. For being older, he is so dang sexy. hehe. Well hi ho hi ho, its off to work I go. lol.

Hi guys....going to "copy & paste" to all my pals. Thank you so much for your prayers....you all are very good at it. As far as we can tell, the fire headed north with the wind from the little bit of rain we had. We have still been moving things to the basement at the shop this morning...so I haven't had a chance to sit. We are going to go ahead with our plans to leave town. We've done what we can do, and if the fire turns again, there's nothing we could do to stop it.
Jordan has been frantic, she's very afraid, so we are better off not being here to watch it anyway.
It seems to us that your prayers have worked, though...and I think our house will be fine. We haven't had any word from anyone whose homes were burned....not surprising....horrible times.
Thank you too for the birthday wishes for Jared. The first thing he said was "What's a TOP?" My first laugh of the day! So I don't think he wants to trade his present...only one...mean Mom...but it's a good one...PSP something or another that he wanted.
Gotta run....will have the laptop so that we can stay in touch with all.

Stacey--I heard this on the radio this morning and was wondering about you. I'm glad to hear that it's going away from you. I always feel horrible when I hear about the fires in the summer. That's so scarey.
Took my DD (14) to get her first cavity filled today. I was really shooting for no cavities for any of them. My DS's (15, 12) still don't have any. The dentist used air abrasion on her tooth. No shots or drills and no numb lip. Much better than when I was a kid.
DH is taking tomorrow off work, yea!! He usually works 6 days a week and about 70 hours. He has his own business that he runs by himself. He usually only takes off for our vacations or a Friday once every couple of months. Think we'll sit and relax by the pool all day!

Hi everyone!!
I promised Stacey I would let everyone know they are no longer in the direct path of the fires, They were close to the fires but the fires have not turned and are headed in a different direction. Stacey, Jay and the kids did take their trip to Vegas for the weekend.(she couldn't get connected via the dial-up service at their resort) They are trying to relax and be thankful. She thanks everyone for their prayers & PD. Many families around them were not as fortunate, several very nice homes were lost.

Garry has been busy cutting, raking and baling hay, Hey Jen do you need any we have lots!!!!

Hope everyone is having a great summer.
