You are correct...DVC pts are not your best bang for the bucks for a cruise...but I look at it this way...The reason we got the pts were to use to have a great time...we have to pay for them either way..no matter where we use them at...we will only use them every year to year and a half...and it will make us feel like we are cruiseng for free...not really but you know what I mean.

Also on the cruise we get food, entertainment and all that stuff included...at wdw we need to feed all 4 of us 3 times a day...perchase WDW hopper passes...and extra for anyother shows like the hoop dee doo show which we love that is $200.00 for the 4 of us. We would be able to save some $$$ by eating and using the kitchen but we love to eat out when on vacation so would end up with the food package.

So I am hoping that the pts will not be excrussiating...but have a feeling that they will be. The woman taking the ressies for the DVC told me that they usually have the pts for the special cruises day of but this time they did not..

Also my niece is due to come out tonight...so get out the soda and popcorn:: and get ready for the movie...the movie will not be a comady so look for a Drama with action...lol... or a horror movie...:scared:  :scared1:

Thanks for the feed back. I was just curious. It seems that if you bought lots of points, bought them early in the game and have paid them off you would really get a lot of "bang for your buck" since you would only be dishing out the per point maint. fee.

I bought 4 timeshares in South Afrcia (for trading purposes only) and paid less than $2000 for a total of 4 weeks ownership (I am in weeks, not points). My yearly fees (in SA, they call them levies) are about $700/yr for all 4 weeks. The reason it is such a bargain is because I pay in SA Rand and the conversion rate is 7:1 (at the moment). I can never stay ON disney property with my timeshare trade, but can stay at really nice resorts (2 & 3 Bed/2 bath - full kitch) just outside of WDW. I am up to paying $450/week for my vacations. That includes the Hawaii 2 bed/2 bath I have to cancel to go on this repo.

I wish I had gotten in DVC points in the beginning. If I told DH now that I wanted to buy into them, I think I'd be heading for divorce court :rotfl: :rotfl:

Robin, good luck with your niece...again! Today is the big day!!!

And MaryAnn, wow on the timeshare...very good bargain. We don't have any standard time shares, just our DVC and a partial ownership of a beach property. But we did get our DVC in February of 1993. The prices have gone up, but not as much as you may think. But since the concept was new they added free length of stay park passes until 2000. (Boy did we miss those when they were gone!) And the annual dues have gone up, but that was to be expected. We made up the cost of the purchase years ago, so now the maintenance fee doesn't seem like much at all! :woohoo: (And the maintenance fees vary depending on where you own, but I think they're all close.)

We're in the process of purchasing point from the DVC. I wished I had done it the last cruise we were on back in October 2004. Luckily there was only a $1 difference in the price of the point due to their current promotion, however, I missed the couple years of points I could have used. I over analyze things to much. This time I'm just going for it.

Good luck Robin...can't wait to hear about your adventures!

Hi everyone...well my sister got my niece to the airport but she refused to get on the plane...the security gaurds tryed to get her to get on but she just plain refussed...o'well...you can't lead a horse to water if they dont want to drink....I'm sorry tjat she won't be coming out but on th other hand....

As for the DVC points we purchases them when on the Christmas cruise...they were for 47 years at $86.00 a pt....we purchases 400 pts in 2 200 increments so when we get older we can turn them over to the boys with the same amount of shares...we will purchase some more down the line.

Funny to think that they will expire when Branden is 63 years old...lol...I will be long gone by then...well hopefully not long gone just gone...lol...

WEll I'm tired...volunteered at the Middle school for 5 hrs today folding ,taping .stamping and so on 2,000 folders...3 of us doing it...

Robin, sorry that your niece wouldn't get on the plane, but it will likely save you a lot of grief in the long run.

DH won't do any type of time share thing or DVC. He just isn't into Disney the way I am. Not that we had the money to buy on the cruise anyway, but it would have been nice. Oh well.

Mom is in the hospital. :( She got some type of infection in one of her toes and despite taking the meds they gave her and following all the instructions from the doctor it has continued to worsen so she got checked in yesterday. I visited with her last night and she is NOT happy about being there but the doctor said if they don't get it taken care of she could lose the foot :scared1: That is not good. Don't know how long they will keep her, but probably at least through the weekend.

Mary Ann - I actually booked the same room that we've had on the two previous cruises. Cat 9. A stateroom with an Oceanview.

Kat - I hope you Mom's feet start to heal. Is she a dietibetic (sp?)

Robin - Sorry to hear your neice isn't coming. I'm sure you could of help her out! As you say, you can't help those who don't want it.

Well we finally got some snow. It's just after 7am and my husband is out using his new snow blower. He's been dying to use it all winter. Not sure what the neighbors are thinking at this moment.....

Yesterday, I did JA in my daughter's 4th grade classroom. They had a sub so the kids were wild.

Today is my daughter Championships for swimming. She's been practicing really hard this week, so I hope she does well.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Thanks Eileen. No, Mom is not diabetic. She had a stroke just over 11 years ago and is wheelchair bound, though.

Good Luck to your dd with her swimming.

Morning everyone!

Wow, Robin...it just sounds like if your niece was so dead-set against coming, it probably wouldn't have gotten better if she had come out. It doesn't matter how fun you all try to be, if she wanted to stay mad or wanted to run off...could have been a big problem.

Kat, hope your mom does better. And there are a lot of people who DVC isn't right for. You have to all really like going there to get your money's worth. Luckily, my Dave does, and our kids have been told they had better like it or pretend to...

(A neighbor was telling me that they went to Universal over Christmas break and was telling Brian she was thinking she might run into him there. He told her she would have had to look at Disney--because his mom was in love with "the mouse.":rotfl: :rotfl: ) Long as we all understand each other!;)

Eileen, good luck with the swim meet. Have a good Saturday everyone...we have to divide up sports commitments today because we have overlapping stuff..time for a strategy session!:cheer2: :cheer2:

hi everyone...

Kat sorry to hear about your mom!!! Parents sometimes can be as hard as children when they get sick...sometimes harder!!! How did she hurt her toe?

Hope your daughter does well on her swim meet...is this her first champianship???

It sure have been nice if we were all cruising together again...this was my first DIS meet thread and even though I will be on 2 others ...it just wont be the same as this one or the first friends that I made on this board.

When I get older and look back on these boards the first thing I will think about is all of you and how you are all doing...:thumbsup2

As for my niece not coming out. I am disapointed that she is not getting out of there but "yes" somewhat relieved she is not coming because well you know...

I will check in later....I have started a thread for my Mexican riviera cruise...come say hi there to if something happens with this tread or just PM me ...I'll be around for along time:rotfl2:

Who will be here for super bowl, tommorrow???? I will....

Thanks everyone for all the well wishes!

We're off again today for the end of the Championships. DD had 3 events yesterday and 3 today. She is 9, so she's in the 9/10 age group. She did awesome yesterday with her 50y backstoke. She cut 2 seconds off her time. She ended up coming in 11th place for this event. They announce the names of the top 12 in each event. So we were both thrilled when we heard her name! Keep the pixie dust coming...

What's everyone's plans for tonight? We're headed over to some friends house. I'm bringing Buffulo Wings. I've never made them before. I got the recipe off the Food Network show. Cooking is not one of my stronger talents.

Have a good day!

GO COLTS....may change my mind when game starts too the Bears :rotfl2:

THAT'S NOT NICE!!!!

:sad2: These fickle fans :sad2:

Kat, I hope your Mom is doing OK and feels better real quick :flower3:

Eileen - Hope your DD did well in the swim meet. Can I ask how you went about booking your room? Did you use a TA or do it yourself on the 31st?

Angela - (if you are still out there) Did you and your family decide if you were going to do the EBRC yet????

Robin - Ia m so sorry to hear that your neice would not get on the plane. I bet she knew all along if she caused a fuss, she wouldn't be made to board. That really is too bad.

J.R. Good luck today. I don't know to much about either team so I am just going to enjoy the game without getting all jittery, like I did with the Pat's game a few weeks ago ;) . Oh, and I really haven't had enough time to check out each player's butt for a peference on who to root for :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Kat - Good luck to your team too :woohoo:

Oh

The Colts beat the Patriots. The Bears did not. Ergo, you must root for the Bears to avenge NE's loss.

Mary Ann - I booked the EB Repo online. I had my reservation by 8:29am on 1/31. I just got notification from my credit card company that the $2k deposit has hit my account.

Another great day at the Championships. She improved all her times. She even qualified for regionals in 100yd free & 100yd backstroke. There is no cutoff times for the 50's, anyone can swim. They are the 1st weekend in March.

My sister in VT in a big Bears fan. Personnally I don't care one way or another...my primary objective is to watch the commercials!

Well the Bears seem to have come into this game with a mission....Soooo am switching to the Bears cause they seem to reallt want it ...

I know that it has been a long time for both teams to be at the SB but who is the real underdog???

I think

Mom is doing better, thank you for the thoughts, etc everyone. They cut the infection out yesterday. It was encapsulated so they were able to completely remove it. She had a massive does of antibiotics as well and will hopefully be going home tomorrow.

In the 4th quarter, 22-17, INDIANAPOLIS!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:
