Oh wow!! How exciting!! My friend Kristen here on the DIS surprised her mom with a Disney trip--she posted about it here and she did some cute things. Let me see if I can find the link to her PTR!! I'll be back!!

I like the first idea with the balloon...it reminds me of the Disney commercial when the balloon comes out of the envelope

Yes, that's what I was thinking. But I've read things about the balloons running out of helium when they're in the box. Plus, I'm trying to decide if she has an inkling what the best way is to throw her off track with the box.

Could you do some sort of scavenger hunt with progressive clues?? Ending with a treasure box and the balloons??

I would love that, but we're having a big party for her. I'm not sure I should monopolize that much of the party. I could wait until her actual birthday to tell her, but I think she'd kill me. She's dying to know!

I love the balloon idea. Could you check at party city and see if they have some balloons that hold the helium longer? If not how about Mylar balloons. I just love the commercials with the balloons! Geee, I have never written balloons so many times in my life!

2 days from now I'll be at Courtney's birthday party handing her a box full of surprise Disney fun!!

So, I guess I need to try and make the balloon thing work out. I think I'll go talk to the people at Party City and see what I can do.

I have a copy of the Unofficial Guide with all our restaurants bookmarked to put in the box. I'm having red & green Mickey tye dyed shirts made. What else should I put in there? I was thinking about Mickey shaped ornaments? Or maybe that's enough....I don't know.

I can't believe how close this is getting, and I still haven't told her. I'm horrible at keeping secrets so this is a major accomplishment for me. I can't wait to see her reaction!

So, big news. Courtney works in a grade level that is made up of all women. All 20 & 30-something women. And, unfortunately, this means they can be petty at times. Y'know, that petty (um....I was going to say a bad word here...) BS that a group of women can get into to. Mean girl stuff? Well, some of that stuff happened on Friday and Courtney was at the center of it. I won't give details here because that's not my place but it was pretty bad.

SO....Last night, on the way to the movies, I told her about Disney. I gave her the Unofficial Guide with all the post-it flags in it and told her that was where we were staying/eating when we go. She was so incredibly excited and completely moved to tears. And, honestly, it was exactly what she needed at that moment.

I still didn't tell her about the Wishes cruise and I still want to get the tie dyed shirts, but it won't be a big reveal like I was hoping. Even though I'm a little sad that it didn't happen, I know it was the right decision. It got her out of her little depressive hole and gave her something else to focus on in the next few weeks because I think things are going to continue to be bad for her at work. They really need to talk things out, but I don't see that happening.

So, we'll get the spend the next couple weeks planning together and that will be fun too! Sorry I didn't get to share a big suprise with y'all... oh well!

That's ok Shannon!! It sounds like it was exactly what she needed at the time!! I know what you mean about petty ladies--when I taught there were 9 of us Kindergarten teachers. There were only 3 I could really stand being around. The others were just mean and cliquey--they couldn't stand me b/c I always had parents requesting me for their kiddos.

UGH! Catty teachers? I am not sure what it is like at Elementary school but how unprofessional! That really can make someone feel crummy. You did the right thing! It is still a wonderful surprise, and now she can share the fun and excitement with you! I am sure you will fit in a few surprises of your own...

Shannn, I think it was the perfect timing for you to do this now. Sure sounds like she needed a "nice little something" to encourage her! Sorry it's so crappy at work for her right now. Glad you could be part of making her world better.

There will plenty of other ways you can surprise her with some other fun things.

Awww....that ended up being a great way/time to tell her! You are such a special friend to her . She was still surprised and even though it wasn't your intended reveal it was perfect!

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I really do see this as a blessing now. She is SOO excited. She came straight in my room this morning and asked me to write down our ADRs. I wrote them all down and she said that she had been on AllEars all weekend. ("Hey, I found this website called AllEars. Have you seen it?" Ah, yea...)

She is making a list of what she wants to do while we are there. I told her that it was her trip and I'd do whatever she wants to do. I did tell her that a couple of things are non-negotiable:
*Osborne Lights on Sunday night at DHS
*Soarin' first thing at Epcot
*I'm NOT riding Mission Space again!
*TSMM first at DHS
*Must have Grey Goose Slushie & Dole Whip

After that, she can plan away! She wants to head straight for HM at MK. That's so funny to me since I've only ever done the Dumbo run!!

I do think she's really excited and it will be great for her to get even more excited over the next couple weeks. I think I'm going to start putting count-down post its in her mailbox at school each day when we get back. It will only be 21 more days at that point!

I'm glad you're here Leslie! I have to admit that you're a legend in my mind so I was all atwitter when I saw your name on my PTR. I'm not so busy over here since the trip is pretty much planned, but I do have a few purchases I'm thinking I'll share!

I'm also busily updating my trip report so stop over there if you get bored again. I've got many many pictures and some dining reports too!

OH, and thanks for the holiday wishes y'all. My Thanksgiving was fairly uneventful, a trip to the farm. I've got to start going on holiday shopping though. I'm starting to realize how difficult it's going to be to get home basically 1 day before Christmas!!
