12/09/06 Geeks.... Lost, but not forgotten

I am doing fine!!! Thanks for the pixie dust. the first few days of vacation I was battling the breathing problems but the steroids helped quickly. I hope they stay under control now that I am back home. Thanks so much for the pixie dust!

We had a lovely vacation!

That is great to hear, Brandi! Glad that you had a nice time but sorry that it is over with all ready.

We are going on a cruise...for sure...next summer. The DCL is off the table...the price is killing us!!!! We will be married 10 years next summer, so we want to go on a cruise. We decided that if we go out of NYC or Baltimore, we don't need a flight. The prices are for 4 people. I am leaning toward one of the 2 that are in purple. The one in yellow is also intriguing. What do you guys think????

Any cruise is better than no cruise! We are spoiled by DCL. :sad2:We just met new DIS friends at DL yesterday who had just gotten off a Carnival Cruise. They only paid 700 for 4 people for a 4 night, but they said they got exactly what they paid for, not anywhere near Disney service. The one thing they mentioned that you might want to check out on these cruises before you book is the children's facilities. They said they closed the children's area everyday from 12-2. They did not know why, but they said it seemed they were always running to pick up the kids when Carnival wanted them to, not when they or their kids wanted to. They also said the registration for the kids programming was at 8:15 and 8:30 (time for each of their 2 kids) and this was during their late seating dinner so wife had to leave dinner with one and hubby had to leave 15 min later with other then they returned to finish eating.
But, they did say that they had a good time, just kept comparing to DCL. They did go and tell Carnival they would not tip since they only ate in the dining room the first 2 nights and neither night were they given drinks, one of the nights they were never offered dessert menus, and the second night they were seated in a dark corner in a booth and just literally ignored. I think that was the no dessert night. They said they did the buffet the next 2 nights and it was fine. But, they did not think they should pay tips (which Carnival automatically adds on) for service that was so poor that they would not go back for the last 2 nights. They did not seem like hard to please, grumpy people either. We really, really liked them both and their girls were just sweet and well behaved. So....I guess I am saying check with Carnival and make sure of the children's progamming, hours, etc and go in with the attitude that this is not Disney and you will have a great time. The prices look good.

The RCCL yellow one looks like more than the DCL 5 night, but then it is several nights more so..... We have heard from RCCL cruisers that also cruise DCL that they are the most comparable in service.

Brandi, the one in yellow also looked for the most interesting to me as well. A chance to visit Bermuda would be lovely in the summer and two sea days at the end to relax and have family or mom/dad time is a great way to finish a cruise. And the ship looks great! lots to do and great dinning options. And I have heard that RCCL kids activities are very close to DCL's.

Pj

Thanks for the cruise opinions. I would like to do RCCL more than Carnival...but I guess I am being cheap. The whole, you get what you pay for, makes so much sense. My parents did RCCL and they loved it. So far we only ever did Disney, so our standards are high to begin with.

Thanks for the kids club advice. I will look into that closely.

I know the RCCL and DCL are close in price but one is 9 days and the other is 5...plus we would need to add airline. I really wish DCL was running their week long trips out of FL next summer. oh well, what can ya do.....:goodvibes

We've been here for a little over a week now. The house is almost unpacked and the office is well on it's way. :thumbsup2

The weather started out really hot and humid but has been a bit milder the last several days. :flower3: Today it was pouring down rain. :scared1:

We haven't been to WDW yet but are planning on going for the 4th of July. I'll post some photos if we do.

July 4th at WDW!!:scared:You are braver than I!!

Another day of rain! :confused3 They say it has been more than 5 inches by this morning and it could be it rained about 3 more today. :scared: Looking for my ARK plans. :rolleyes1

Well, that gives you a few hours of daylight to make a good dent in that Ark project before the next forecast. ;)

One more thing on my "To Do List" was to visit the MK on the 4th of July ..... Done! :thumbsup2

We went for just a few hours with some friends who live in Orlando. The only things we did was to ride the train and eat a hotdog. Annette and the girls waited on the train station deck to save a good seat. The fireworks were great!

The one sad thing was the monorail crash that night. :sad1: We were at the Transportation Station just 3 hours before the wreck but did not hear about it until after church the next day.

Brack - I thought about you being in Disney when that monorail wrecked. How horrible.
