12/09/06 Geeks.... Lost, but not forgotten

It's such a tease (internal fight with myself), since it will be over my brithday, and although my buying will all be done for the back to school rush, I think the first week of the cruise is over the last week of the rush period at the store, but after any apple promo would be over, hmmmmmm...

I am so tempted to add my name, and see what happens with work and airfare. I mean there is tones of time until I/we might have to cancel.

Come on PJ!!! You have forgotten to say that you would have the opportunity to cruise with us...and Angie & Dennis...and Mike & Chris...and Todd & Melissa & Destin...and maybe John & Amy & Sophia!!!

You HAVE to see Mike's new Davy Jones costume! pirate:

Don't forget that V said that is the cruise she might be looking at too. I have PM the invitee and we will talk over the next couple of days.

YES! Do it, PJ!!!!

We have almost 2 years to pay for it. Let's see what the DU quote is and go from there. You seem pretty good at tracking down some decent airfare for us.

Remember...when the ship didn't fill up last time they gave deals and we could call and get our cost adjusted. :)

Which cruise guys . . . I am lost . . .?

WOW!!! There have been more posts on this thread today...I have to catch up all the time. :) John, we are talking about the WB TA. You mentioned something about not knowing what could happen in two years.

How are you doing today? How is your dad?

Dad is about the same Lisa . . . my sister is home, so a bit of the burden is off of me for a couple of days. We had a good time at the football homecoming game tonight. Sophia got to sit on the sidelines for the entire first half of the game with the Superintendent's daughter, and we won . . .

Isn't that cruise a conflict with school? I have to check those dates. As everyone has said too . . . I bet the airfare is a killer.

Lisa has school figured out and PJ is a whiz with airfare deals. DO IT, JOHN!!!

That's right...the kids will be home schooled...or rather ship schooled. :) W will be on a year round schedule that year with the first break around 9/20-30. He will take his 9 week tests when we return. K will home school until after the cruise then return to the school for 5th grade.

I priced flights on British Airways and cut the cost in half by driving to Newark instead of flying htere so 2400 for the four of us instead of 5500. We will get a rental...unless Angie is going to swing around and pick us all up on the way to the port. LOL!

I need to think about this . . . I am not only a school board member, but also not a fan of home schooling (sorry if I offend anyone) so 10 days (probably 11) missed at the beginning of the school year is a concern to me. I have no problem pulling Sophia out for a week at any time, but two weeks is a stretch.

The ONLY reason I am even considering it at all is because of you guys!

I don't like the idea of it either BUT the small group that we cruised with on the EB REPO is twisting my arm. ;) One of them is a former teacher and she is who will be guiding me AND doing the teaching on the ship...with me close by. There is another family the kids hung out with who would do this as well...so 1 7th, 2 6th, 1 5th and 1 4th. If it was in late August I would not bother with home schooling and would simply enroll them late like this year since they didn't "miss" any days this fall. However, school starts here 8/25 and I do not want to just keep DD home for a couple weeks to use this loophole. If she attends school for 2 weeks we would not get the assignments until we returned in early October and that just doesn't make sense to me...that she would be falling behind when on the cruise because we wouldn't have the material. By HSg we would make sure that she is on track when we return after the cruise and reregister her in school. Also, since DS will be starting 6th grade the week after July 4th, I will be able to work on basic skills with DD at home so actually having a curriculum to go by would be helpful. DS will simply be reviewing his studies on the ship to be ready to make up his 9 week finals when we return...unless he is able to take some of them before we leave [which I don't expect teachers to have their finals ready two weeks early...but I will approach them with it]. I also will keep every single piece of paper that comes home with DS next year so that I will have a good idea of what material is covered in 5th grade those first 5 weeks...will probably have to scan some of it since the teachers like to keep the graded papers. I will also use that information when it comes time to teach DD.

Honestly I am not looking forward to HSg DD even for a few weeks with her attitude lately but for us to be able to take this cruise...with the help of someone who has experience with this...I am willing to give it my all. She might be okay in two years AND since DS will be in school she will have all of my attention so that usually goes better anyhow. Who knows...I will contact the school board next year and find out who handles the independent studies...though I think what we are hoping to do is essencially the same thing. I can find out which books the kids read as a class or do reports on and have her read those as well. I have no intention of HSg after we return...will be taking her butt into that building the morning after we get back home!

Hi Everyone !

Well, it has been a long while since I have attended this meeting, but I'm Baaack.

It has been a hectic, stressful couple of months, but it looks like we are finally settled in somewhat. Now all I have to worry about is getting out of Dodge before the serious snow flies. I don't relish driving the RV over the pass in a blizzard. It would take some very large chains for those tires. Yuck !

Angie filled me on on the latest cruise plans. Woo Hoo. Let's do it.

John,

We sat in the midst of a sea of Ohio State Fans at the Coliseum. They are really a classy group of fans. I was wearing my USC shirt and hat, as were Jeff and Aaron, and we were a little nervous at first. LOL.
The 'other' OSU got even for your loss. Anyway, OhioSU fans were very nice, despite the loss. The LAPD did kick an SC fan out for being an ***. He deserved it. Too much beer. It was a fun time though. The stadium was overflowing. SOme of the lots wanted 100 dollars just to park. We snagged a spot at the last minute, for 40, at the old Shrine Auditorium.
And to think I used to get season tickets, as a student, with parking, for 25. LOL.

Keeping you all in my prayers,

Dennis

DrHug, did you post that twice:surfweb: :surfweb: just to make sure you were heard?? :confused3 :rotfl2: :lmao:

Yes ! Plus, I couldn't think of anything else to say. :rotfl:

Actually, it was due to a glitch in the system that caused my name and password to disappear somehow, thus making me re-enter said name and password, which caused me to think that the intended massage did not post, and then caused me to click the post message button once again allowing for a duplication of said message and allowing me to reach the 2000 post mark a little sooner than I normally would have achieved such a goal.

Whew! Run on sentence!! ;)

DrHug and I went over to the University tonight to see my hero, Col. Oliver North. We bought a book, got it signed and DrHug took my picture with Ollie! :) I was going to throw my granny panties on the stage, but had some trouble getting past the spanx....so.....just a photo. :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: I have a photo with my other all time favorite hero (besides DrHug, of course) Bob Dole sitting on the end table. :lovestruc DrHug will have to print this one up for me so I can set it next to the one with Senator Dole. :goodvibes

Ooh I've missed a lot! Hello everyone - hope you are all well. Disney at 8AM, Apple announcements tomorrow at 1:00 ET - tomorrow should be fun to watch even if I can't do any of it.

Holy Smokes - the prices  The 5 day double was more than a 7 day eastern I priced previously. The 5 day is also double the price of my current 4 day. That is beyond disappointing.
