Hey Andy,

Don't think you are on anyone's "Bad" list. I agree with most of what you said - just trying to give you another angle of understanding. You don't really know a person until you walk a mile in their shoes.

I also want you to know that most teachers and administrators feel the same way you do about education - but the people we all elected have taken much of that out of their hands.

Your frustration is one I hear from a lot of parents - all I can tell them is tell the people that you elect that make these rules (like NCLB) that you want it changed. It isn't just being the #1 school - there are serious consequences to a school district if they don't meet specific test goals.

None of us is afraid of accountability - it just has to make common sense - and this one-size fits all accountabilty formulated by politicians does NOT make sense. I will be in Washington to tell them so in February.

Very well said. I feel the same way Andy. I feel the same frustrations. There are so many times that the teachers and administrations hands are tied. I often feel like I have been banging my head against a wall trying to deal with the politics aspect of the education field.

THe whole lobster thing, doesn't make sense to me. It is always drenched with something, even it is just butter. Has anyone easten it with nothing on it? What makes it so special? I eat fish, but shell fish is more about what goes on it or what it is dipped into. I love shrimp cocktail, I think because of the sauce, lol.

I might skip the lobster too, what else is on the menu that night?

I agree. Some of our best teacher are young! They are willing to try new things. They have not become stale and cynical!

I told Andy that I cried the first few times I went flying with Ken - I'm such a baby - I hate heights.

Becka, we have a WONDERFUL book called The Next Exit. You can get it at thenextexit.com. It lists what is at every exit on every interstate highway in the nation. We have found when we travel with young kids that going thru a drive thru a mile or so before a rest stop then stopping at the rest stop to eat works really, really well. The kids do not have to sit at the rest stop like they do in a restaurant, but can run off some energy. Rest stops are quick and easy off and on the freeway. I find a rest stop in my Next Exit book then back track an exit or so and find a McD or something. This book is the absolute BEST roadtrip tool ever invented. I also highlight the Arco stations from here to CA because the gas is usually about 10 cents cheaper at those. We plan our gas stops with that book too.

I am going to get one of these books! My DH and I travel with the kids alot. I am sure it would come in handy!!!

John - CONGRATS to ALEX on completing a very important step on his path to be coming a doctor.

DAY REMAINING - If I count until I leave work before the trip I have 49 days, 16 hours, as of post time.

V- Can I go to to your DD's school, we never had fun like that!

Caroline - I was a "rush my work in class so I could read" student too. Finally the math teacher made me tutor other students instead, because the other student's didn't understand why I could read and they could not.

PACKING - suitcase came out last week, but the lime green knapsack came home in August and the pink princess bag (May 06) from DS was empty into that. Along with the travel sized items I have been picking up as I went along for the last 22 months!
