So are any of you planning to do the parasailing on Castaway Cay? I've wanted to parasail for a long time now (despite my horrible fear of heights) so DH and I will probably be doing that on our first day at CC. :Pinkbounc
DH and I are parasailing!

Kim, unfortunantly I was so into the kid's school last year as PTO secretary...taking care of most things while VP (a dear friend) was in CA taking care of her terminally ill father for three months, including planning a carnival which I had never done before, room mother to both classes with only one other mom showing up in DS's room...none in DD's room...and ran the egg hunt for both the first grade & kindergarten classes (which resulted in multiple complaints from non-finger-lifting teachers and parents)...that after putting in over 450 hours, I removed my name from the ballot the day before the election meeting. After finishing up the rest of my responsibilities a few weeks later I finally started working on the kid's rooms...with things that I had purchased months before...but never had time to do with PTO obligations & the fact that DH was gone from 1/14 for 4 months....that after 3 days of rest I thought that I was having a heart attack & went to the doctor's office after dropping the kids off at school at 8 am. After multiple tests over a few weeks, I found out that I have developed an snxiety disorder & suffered my first anxiety attack. So yes....someone else is going to have to step up & take over because I just can't do it anymore. I don't have the tummy for the political BS that goes on. :guilty:
Learning to say no can be a very liberating feeling.

Which day are you planning on it?
We are going to plan on it for the first day. That way if we can't stop on the island or if the water is rough and it gets canceled we still have another shot!

Our last cruise we could dock but due to wind all of the water activities were canceled. I was bummed I really wanted to ride on that banana!

Why do people complain and give volunteers grief when they will not ever do anything? I can imagine why you had an anxiety attack. The one thing I have that most PTA pres don't is a company that can provide some support an assistance. Also, this school is only K-2, so it is just the really little kids and hopefully that will help... We had an unfortunate incident at school this year that prompted this. The school did 3 days of "good touch, Bad touch" while, I think this is helpful, I did not want DD to have 3 days in a row of this scary subject. She does well for short time exposure to things like this, but can become very upset by this type of thing after 3 days of it... So we opted out, you had to sign a form either way. She was the only one who's parents thought this was a lot for a 5 year old kindergarten student and so they put her in the hall, by herself, with the door propped. You can guess how DH and I felt about this.. We did let her go for 1 day and it was just fine and appropriate, but leaving a child in the hall by themselves without telling the parent this was going to happen is unacceptable.

That is why I am in the PTA this year.

Yes it can. :) I am practicing that now...with the help of my friend...now PTO president. She feels badly about what happened but I told her that the PTO stuff was just one piece of the puzzle...not the only one.

Because they are lazy inconsiderate clods??? We have such a small volunteer base...very sad...and very overloading on the few who do show up. I will still help her behind the scenes...setting up the group email, folders, etc to make it easier for her on the computer since I was the one who did all of that. I will also help her count the money with fundraisers...we don't have to deal with anyone else for that. I might keep up with the boxtops...we'll have to see.

We also opted out of that presentation for both kids when they were in Kindergarten. DS participated in first grade, but he was also 7 yo & I had talked to him about it more. At just 5 yo, DD didn't need to hear it all. It actually wasn't what they presented that concerned me. We attend a title one school with a large percentage of these kids. I was more concerned about what some of the kids might say or ask about. :(
