Has anyone seen Nanny McFee? I picked it up today at Target since it was on sale for $10. It is normally $20. Did the kids like it?

My DD read the book and hated it so much she refuses to watch the movie.

Why didn't you want to bring a snack?

It was actually a huge misunderstanding - but I was asked three weeks in a row to bring the snack and I even at the young age was stubborn and completely didn't think it was fair. I thought that they were picking on me for being new - we had just moved over to Melbourne PC area...and the one girl I had words with - her mom said I should probably think of joining something else!! I think this was third grade!!

Haven't seen anything but the trailers for it but DH is always using the "we're going to hire Nanny McFee to come take care of you" to Samantha.

I want to have Super Nanny come & whip these kids into shape! :( I swear DD has turned into a spoiled brat this summer. She is hitting & kicking & sassing...I just can't scream anymore.

I was in GS for 6 1/2 years. I had 3 years of brownies and 3 years as a junior then we moved to Italy. I wanted to keep going but they really did not have a leader for the Cadet level so I quit.

I think I learned a lot being a GS and I hope my kids will be interested in being in scouts for at least a few years.

You know, I loved scouting too & DS wants to be in boy scouts. He couldn't last year because a parent has to attend the meetings with the first graders and they didn't welcome siblings. With DH gone that wasn't an option for us. This year he will try cub scouts. The one thing that I DREAD is the fundraising. I will just ask them the profit the troop gets per item & write a check for that amount. I refuse to let my kids bother people. Girl Scouts sell more than just the cookies & calendars here too. :(

I can't stand fundraising either....they do this at daycare and I thought - already?? I guess any way they can make a quick buck.

As my kids get up to school age I hope they are involved with Scouting, one sport/activity (baseball, dance, swimming, tae-kwon-do, etc.) and hopefully music when they get old enough. I don't want them to be overscheduled but at the same time I want them to be involved in some regular activities.

However, if each kid is doing that I can't imagine how busy I am going to be shuttling two kids around all the time!

That is exactly how I feel Becka! :( Last year we didn't do anything because DH was gone & I had so much to do for PTO. This year DS wants to sign up for soccer & scouts. Afte the cruise I think that I will sign him up for the swim club at the Y. He is really getting his breathing technique down for the freestyle & he could work on his diving. I would LOVE to have him on the swim team! DD doesn't want to do anything. I might sign her up for ballet at the rec center down the street & just take her there. I am not looking forward to the practices or the late nights for the meetings though. My kids are in bed at 7:30 pm on school nights.

Vanessa, preschool is crazy!!! If you are paying tuition to send a child to school that is enough fundraising for me.

I am paying $355.50 a week for my kids daycare. If they asked me to fundraise on top of that :furious: !

It's not forced but they do the guilt trip on you and use the "funds will go to new playground equipment" etc....Mine is $510 every two weeks for both girls including breakfast, lunch and two snacks...this is the employee discounted price. If you work outside the company it is significantly higher.

It's funny you guys are talking about classes...DD starts dance and gymnastics next week....! Hers will be Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings...not too horrible....

Oh, life gets to be so much fun as the kids get older.

All 3 are in dance. Mondays it was Dina first, and while she was there I picked up the other two from school. Luckily Sarah's band practice was on the same day so she was at Amanda's school so pick up was easy. Then back to dance to pick up Dina and drop off Amanda. Most of the kids took all 4 classes, but I limited them to 3 (had been 2) so they are done by 7 or 7:30 with their dinner break. This Spring I had a class Monday night so DH picked her up.Tuesday was dance for Sarah. I had to pick Amanda up from school because I would miss her bus otherwise. She got done at 7:30.

Fridays were Girl Scouts. I was never a scout as a kid, but it is fun being a leader. I am hoping one of the co-leaders wants to step up this year as I am worn out after 6 years. Both Sarah and Amanda are in it now.

I think Wednesday was piano lessons for Sarah.

That was just the every week stuff. In the fall, Amanda plays soccer ( I coach), in the winter, Sarah and Amanda play basketball, and in the spring is softball (coach both)and soccer(coach). Luckily Dina is too young for anything yet.

On top of their stuff, I had GS leader meetings once a month, Little League meetings twice a month and my classes. Room mom for Amanda, but her teacher didn't ask much from me. PTA had to be bumped this year, especially since there wasn't anything to do. I would do the book fairs though and handing out fundraiser stuff when they came in.

My plans for the future are Sarah not doing as much outside stuff since she will have much more homework from JH. That will ease me for when Dina starts. I am hoping she doesn't want to do basketball this year, and she will probably start with one dance class to see how the homework load is. This should be her last year of softball. Amanda will probably have to choose between softball and soccer next spring. Doing both was a little too much. The only thing Dina will do this year besides dance is preschool and that is only 3 days a week for 2 and a half hours.

Ok, maybe i am beginning to understand what DH's problem is! :lmao: And I am sure I left something out!

Why am I not suprised at the number of band geeks on this thread? ;) I guess some of us never outgrow our band "geekiness". Once a band geek always a band geek - even when you no longer have a band! :rotfl:
You got it girl!!!!!
