Kim, I live Toronto, Ontario. Other Canadians think that we think we are the centre of the Canadian Universe, but that is just not true, lol. Think a city the size of New York City, with about 5 million people, finance centre, theaters, great restaurants, and three universities, and half a dozen junior colleges (we call them community college.) And best of all we have 5 Disney Stores, lol.

Pj

Hey, don't forget the CN Tower. Love the glass floors! And here I thought Montreal was the center of the Canadian Universe... I am of course kidding. I am very upset I missed the 5 Disney Stores! We took the train to Niagra Falls and only spent 1 day in Toronto. I wish I could have seen more! After your description, I know I missed A LOT!

Brandi, I work in a university bookstore and the number of revisions and what is actually in them is really sad.

We have two professors who teach SOC101 and they each teach every other year and then rewrite their own textbook, which they require their students to buy, on their off year. So, although we have a very active used textbook program, this class has no chance to ever sell back their book, or the next years group have no chance to buy used copies. And some of the changes are just where a graph or diagram are on a page. And they each teach about 3000 students each year, with the help of TA's, so they have almost not human contact with their students, all of the SOC101 tests are multiple choice and marked by machine. These profs make me made.

What do you do for a living?

Well, ummm. We own a research company, but DH and I teach classes at the university as a guest lecturer and adjunct professor when we have quarters we are available...

Is everyone laughing a lot now? Good thing it is not my full time job huh...

I was only ever in Niagra Falls and Niagra on the Lake. It was nice but I know there is so much more to see there. That is where we went on our Honeymoon. My aunt goes to Canada often for hockey games. She was there on a trip right before I got married and she gave us Canadian money for a wedding gift. It was cool since we were of course going there the day after the wedding.

don't you all just love our funny money. I noticed that your money is getting some colour now too.

Forgot all about the CN tower, oops! And we have Rogers Centre (Skydome,) which you can take a tour of. The roof retracts and the seats inside move. Very Cool.

I'd like to report that DS3 is finally asleep ... or at least quiet. It's almost midnight here on the east coast.

And the laptop battery is on its last bit of life (and I'm too lazy to go downstairs for the charger). Off to sleep--or read my book and fall asleep after page 2.

DH took a 10 day trip thru Novia Scotia and New Brunswick. We flew to Boston, drove to Maine, and took the ferry over to NS. We stayed in Lunenburg, then drove up the coast to Cape Breton...the most beautiful place in the world!!! :) We drove down thru NB & stayed in St. John's near the echo caves before returning to Boston. We did this trip a little over three months after we met. I knew that if we could survive 10 hour days in the car and still get along...we would be ok. :)

I went to check the site like Lisa said and it cracked me up! I am in a small class. There are only 13 grad students. My DH asked me what I am going to do next. Who knows. With the requirements in education for continuing classes I am sure I will enroll in a new program. I can't see taking a bunch of classes that mean nothing. I feel like I should be working toward a goal! I am just not sure what my next goal will be.

When are you going to have to take more classes, Brandi? I don't see how they expect teachers to do as much as they require for as little as they pay.

You have probably seen more of the States than I have too. I have never been to CA. The furthest west was Dallas.

You need 24 credits your first 7 years teaching. I have that done. Then you need 6 credits every 5 years. I am taking the set of 6 credits. That makes 30 and completes my masters program. I will have a few years before I need to worry about classes again. My DH was just wondering what I will do next. Honestly, I don't know but like I said, I want to do something productive!

I will get a pay raise when I get my masters :Pinkbounc  :cheer2: That makes me happy! :goodvibes

I took educational tours to DC and NYC for just about a year, and I go to WDW, lol. And DCL too.

Wow Lisa, 10 hours in a car. You are probably right and that sounds like a wonderful trip!

Penny, I have only seen the western side and the Toronto area. DH went to see his sister this summer to see if DD and I would be ok to go. It is so cold in the winter there, they can't spill any water when they feed the ducks and chickens or thier feet will freeze to the ground. If the cows give birth in the winter, they have to clean them off immediatly or thier tails fall off. She works really hard!

Penny and Lisa, I will let you know if I can get that video translated tommorow.

Brandi, I actually think education is a wonderful thing. No one can every take it away from you and it only makes you stronger. So you and Mike are really admirable.

I can't imagine that you are getting paid what you are really worth. The great thing about your job is what a lasting effect your work will have. It's just unfortunate that teachers are so underpaid.

Kim, the winter thing is changing, lol. We only had snow about 4 times this winter and temps under 0 for maybe 20 days overall. And this summer, we have had three week over 30. And the humidity, it sucks, this week we are over 35 all week. All temps are celsius.
