Wow, I don't think I would like that whole year done in one semester thing! It's bad enough when they have double classes twice a week in the HS. It would never work around here. DDs have had no problem catching up. Most people here have to take their vacation during the school year since we are a summer vacation area. The schools know this and are very lenient with it. I am sure when Sarah gets to HS she may run into a teacher or two who may shake their heads about it though. The biggest reason I don't bother finishing my degree to teach is that I don't want a full time job that would make it hard to get away with the kids. I'll stick with subbing (if I ever get that application in:rolleyes1

We haven't taken DGS out since he got into HS. We had no qualms about taking them in the lower grades. They caught up fine and if a grade dropped from an A to a B because the teacher did not tell them that the rough draft counted and would not accept it late, it was ok. Grades count in HS though and we just want him to have every advantage when applying to college and looking for funding. $$$

Same problems here. DD's high school next year is on a block schedule/semester class

Yes that's what they call it.....

Our MS has certain classes on a block schedule too.....

English / Math - year round
Specials - language, music, art - year round

Social Studies - blocked
Science - blocked
Certain weird classes blocked - Home ec - career class (forgot what they called it)

It's a real pain when you child is a slow starter sometimes. Or makes it hard to make up a bad grade when it happens towards the end.

Oh yeah and if that's not bad she gets HS credit/grades for math and language right now so if she does bad it's going on her HS transcript. (Mandatory starting last year; you used to be able to pick if you wanted to transfer it. Only those with good grades used to transfer. Now if you fail...it counts)

I am only allowed to take 4 personal days in a row (as per our new school contract.) That completely cuts out school time cruising! We are only allowed to take one personal day if it is attached to a school holiday. Like over Thanksgiving, we can't take 4 days connected to a holiday, you can only take one!

We are planning a Thursday - Tuesday trip in October. I would be using my 4 personal days. We get 2 each year but we can bank them for future use. I have been banking mine since I started! I only ever took one.

Well that kills any thoughts of a med cruise......

I saw those cheap rates for the eastern repo and thought about it...

Saw 14 days and that killed it for me..... I'd have to quit my job.... :headache:

DCL - i need exciting new places to go that don't take two weeks.....

Ok, Lisa.

What did the Captain say? I got my info from Disney TA bulletins. I am so lost.

Lisa - you are so organized and on the ball!

My goal this year is to get back into being organized. I felt so scattered since my attack in May. Now I am feeling like that is under control or almost there so I can retrain my brain to be ahead of the game again. :)

PJ, the captain & the rebooking CMs on both ships have been saying March.

Today I learned something new. I want to use our miles for the plane trip to orlando. I tried to use them last year in May, but all the sky saver options were gone, so I thought I would try now because I like to fly free. Anway, you have to wait until you are less than 331 days out. Hmm Learn something new every day.

Hey Brandi girl! I keep thinking of how great you looked every time I saw you. How much luggage did you take?

We were gone for 13 days and we had one garment bag and 5 suitcases. SO WORTH IT!!!!! I love dressing up! Thanks for saying I looked good. That is my big chance to be "dressy."

I am still working on my shutterfly Christmas photo book.

Santa brought a pirate ship!!!

ITA with you Brandi. We enjoy dressing up too but it is still hard to find the time with two kids. You looked great!

SO where are we going in 2008? and i agree with John that it would be nice to push it away from end-of-year and xmas...

I have been thinking a lot about this . . . this year may have been a bit of an anomaly, but I always knew I was a bit on the edge going in December in the business I am in. So now that it has come to a head of sorts, we will probably do the post Thanksgiving in 2008 if that works out, but will re-evaluate after that. This year was really tough on us with the timing in a lot of ways, heck with everything that happened, we did not even send out Christmas cards.

We do enjoy the ship and the decorations at Christmas too, but we have seen it several times now, and it may be time in the future to see something different. I agree with Lisa on the affordability factor, and until a few years ago we used to go in Jan/Feb - usually just as affordable, and MUCH easier on our schedules. Also helps out when we are usually Soooooooo sick of winter and snow that it helps to get away. We have also done Halloween - which was fun in a different way.

So 2009 may be Jan or Feb of 2010 for us- a long time away anyway.

The only caveat will be what our good friends here decide to do, and if we can still cruise with them!

Love you guys!

John
