V, you have heard lots of good advice; please don't stress! Here's another thing to consider if you wish. You can ask for a speech screening test from a speech pathologist. (I had to get a referral from the pediatrician to follow the paperwork procedure, but that was no problem.) For Walt, I had screenings done by the county early intervention program and by a private speech pathologist. I also had my sis in law (also a speech pathologist working with preschoolers) test him whenever we got together at holidays (she lives in Tennessee, so we don't get together often). Also had a hearing screening just to be sure that was not an issue (didn't think so, but there are kids who fool family and teachers for years because they can wing it somehow). Anyway, bottom line is that he just passed the screening tests and did not need therapy. But the tests and therapy really are a lot of fun for the kids, especially preschoolers. It's a lot of playing to learn. I was actually hoping he would qualify! And even though he talks quite a bit now, we may have another screening test done in a few months because his speech is not clear to everyone all of the time.

Having never eaten there, I guess I need to know the story with the ketchup. :confused3

If you DARE ask for ketchup at WCC, EVERY server will bring you a bottle until you have a table full of ketchup.

Oh, and if you are single, they will find you a match.

Oh, and if married for awhile, you may have to get on one knee to show the kids how to propose, etc. (personal experience).

Back to the child rearing issues . . .

Amy did not mention that Alex had speech problems in preschool, and we paid a speech therapist to do speech with him for two years. HIs palate was shaped like a V instead of rounded too, and he had special orthodontics to fix that over the course of several years (think of an expanding vise in the back of your mouth).

Did I tell you he took second place in the state in policy debate his Freshman year, 5th his Sophomore year, 3rd his Junior year?

Oh and BTW - both he and Sophia had binkies until they were ready to part with them. (Alex at 3 I think - Sophia at FIVE)

As others have already said, love, and having time enough for it and them are the most important things. If you have that, the rest seems to fall into place.

Joy - sorry about your dog - those of us who have had pets know how much they are members of the family, and how deep it can hurt to lose one.

Howdy all -- there's no way I'm going to catch up over the last few days :(

My dog is sick -- he's 14 years old and the vet just did a blood screen. It appears to be Cushing's Disease but without further testing, we won't know definitively. Not going to go that route since we couldn't really treat it even if we know it's Cushing's for sure. the vet we saw was hell bent on euthanasia but I don't know if we're ready to really consider that yet. I don't know if he has 2 days or 2 months or what but I have a feeling we'll be having to make some tough decisions here before we go on vacation :(
Oh Joy! :grouphug: I know it just breaks you heart! We had to make a similar decision this summer. Nothing makes it better.

Does anyone else see this as justice? Crimes should have a punishment...I think her punishment should be to sit with DW and I and hand out candy to the little ones and not go out gathering. DW thinks I'm being harsh. :confused3

I'm sure this has nothing to do with the candy - there must be something else she is acting out against. It might be good to find out what is bothering her before it is more serious than a candy bag. We really emphasize the importance of honesty and that we will support the kids if they make a mistake and are up front about it - but if they lie, they are on their own with whatever consequences there are. I think there is a certain amount of trial and error in this process.

We always say that we love you but not what you are doing. She wants to know if you will be there when the teen stuff gets nasty.

I hope Devon had fun on Halloween!!!

And V, I had 2 thumb kids and one binky kid. At least you can choose when the pacifier goes away (had to go cold turkey one day with Hannah).

I must get my children ready for the day. I have to drop Eliza off at my DMom's house then drop Jake at Preschool. I then have an appointment with a surgeon. I have been having issues ever since Eliza was born. I am terrified...but I know this is only a consultation. Then I have to go to the school and drop off some paperwork and turn in my notice that I will indeed be starting back on Jan 2. Fun stuff. Wish me luck...I may need it!
Best wishes, Brandi. I hate to go to the doctor. Good for you for checking into everything.

Missy,
Your work situation sounds awful, and I'm sorry I don't have much practical advice. I know when I was working full-time, I quit a job with a bad work environment and took a huge pay cut to work somewhere else where I was much happier.

Prayers and PD for your furbaby.... :grouphug: . I know our casey is getting old and has "issues" that will cause us to make those same decisions in a year or so too.....(Well maybe more but you never know...)

Just make sure you hug them every day and give him the best life possible and you've done your part.....

There is also a new one on called Celebrity Paranormal Project. 5 celebs are left in a "haunted" place and have to investigate rooms. Pretty cool and funny.

DH was watching that the other night...The one with Jenna from Survivor...

I'll stick with the TAPS guys show.....

Joy,
Hugs for the tough decisions ahead. Had to make that choice for one dog last spring very suddenly. The other two are pretty old (14 and 12) so I expect more tough decisions in our future.

Lisa,
I can't believe your volunteers go to all that work to cover for the losers who do not pick up their orders. Anytime the girls' schools do fundraisers with perishable items (pizza, cookie dough, pies), the chairs make it clear on the order form and the pickup notices that nothing can be or will be stored past the pickup time. We are not allowed to use the school walk-in freezer/refrigerator and the PTO refrigerator is just a regular size one. (Health code regulations prevent using the school one--it would mean that anything they have in there could have been compromised by volunteers coming in and out.)

Good Morning!

Happy Thirsty Thursday!

And Vanessa, if Amy did not already answer your post about the kids - I will when I have time - (not caught up).

Bottom line - you and John are great parents, quit worrying, save that for when they ARE teenagers (and I bet all that you will be worried about is all the boys that will be chasing them).

John1
Our experience has been that the girls do more chasing than the boys do. You just have to watch those boys when the chase is over! :lmao: :rotfl2:

Our school district does this in the elementary and middle school at least once a year (maybe high school too; don't have one there yet!). We attended once (hey, I was a PTO officer; had to set a good example.) It was as awful as it sounds. Now DD comes home with the announcement and says "I'm putting the math night flyer right in the recycling bin, OK?"
:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: I like that girl!! :lmao: :rotfl2:

So I should ask Dennis to ask for ketchup. :teeth: HHHmmmm Wonder if he will be reading the boards today, he is not working so he might. Maybe he will miss this page. :rotfl2:
