Oklahoma high school hoops team loses 112 - 2

The Hanna basketball team can take some consolation: It didn't get shut out. It did, however, lose 112 -2 on Friday to Earlsboro. "It was embarrassing to watch," said Earlsboro coach Jim Walling, who pulled his starters at halftime with a 73 - 2 lead. "But you can't just tell your kids not to score."

I hope the kid that scored the 2 points got a lot of attention from the cheerleaders.

um, he didn't pull his starters until 73 to 2?????

All I have to say is "OUCH". Hope the losing team wasn't too hard on themselves.

The coach of the winning team should have told them to take it easy on them, though. True, he can't tell them not to score but he can set the tone, you know?

Its one thing if the third string helped the score get up that high, but really, keep your starters in with a 71 point lead?

And yes, he could have told his players not to score. Its actually a tougher game if you try to run as much time off the clock before scoring. He could have run the shot clock down to 1 on every play. No way would the score become that high. The guy probably pressed the entire game too. I remember having to BEG my coach to put me (a starter) back into games that were obvious one-sided matches. I promised not to score. I would get rebounds and hand the ball to someone else (who only scored like 4 points a season) and let her get the shots. This would happen 5, 6 times until someone else got the ball. Sure I could have scored, but what is that showing anyone?

Really nice exampe of sportsmanship that coach provided

Thank you KT for posting this. I wanted to say something similar but your words are better. I thought this as well.

I also think he could have pulled them before halftime...
