Here's my first review EVER. The party consist of me, DH, dd11 and dd7. My oldest dd is at that inbetween age where she is too big for kid meals but too small for adult size. She mostly ordered adult meals at counter service places & kids' meals at sitdown. Since, we were staying offsite this trip we did not do the daily afternoon break so, the sitdown meals were our resting breaks.

My review will be out of order as my laptop died and some of my pictures are on there so, it might be awhile before I can get those pictures downloaded.

Enjoy and ask any questions. Here's the first review of Captain's Grille on Thanksgiving Day for dinner.

Okay... here's my review of Captain's Grille. They had a special Thanksgiving Buffet. We chose here as we had no plans to visit the parks today. So, it was great to see all the resort decorations at Yacht & Beach Club. Here's the menu they posted outside with the prices:

Here's my kid's plate. She put a roll, cheese, fruit, tortelleni with Marinara sauce, & crab cakes:

My other kid added this to her plate: cheese, chicken tenders, fruit, roll & turkey and Tortelleni with marinara sauce.

One of my dds ordered this Sour Apple Slushie (non-alcoholic)... It was very GOOD:

2231199820041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I ordered a Chocolate Martini. I didn't love it as it was missing a creamy component. It was on the dry side.

2298242340041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

The other dd ordered a Berry Smoothie.

2858036070041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

My dh ordered a beer but I didn't take a picture of it...

I didn't take a picture of the actual buffet but I took pictures of our food. My dh pretty much put the same things on his plate as well. Here's my first plate of mixed green salad with ranch & pumpkin Bisque Soup (I had two servings of the soup). I love anything pumpkin so, this was delicious:

2552153630041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Here's my food plate. I had coleslaw, sausage stuffing, turkey & mashed potatoes with gravy, crab cakes (tasted a little fishy), green beans & sweet potatoes:

2909504710041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Everything was good. Nothing out of this world good but good for a Thanksgiving buffet.

Here's our dessert plates. I was disappointed in the dessert size. Everything was mini and didn't have a lot of flavor. We liked the Gelato the best. They had fruit, chocolate pecan tartlet, pumpkin pie tartlet, chocolate gelato, pumpkin pie cheesecake, strawberries with yogurt, & brie. They also had vanilla gelato as well.

Here's my dds plate. She had the apple tartlet & chocolate gelato:

While the food was fine, it wasn't a must do for us. We'd probably pick a different place next time. The service was good.

Next, counter service at Flametree BBQ in Animal Kingdom. This is our favorite counter service place in all of WDW. As for AK we've eaten at Pizzafari, Rain Forest Cafe, Boma and here (all were on prior trips). We did have dinner at Yak & Yeti which I'll review later.

Here both dh and dd ordered the 1/2 slab of St. Louis ribs. The loved them. It came with cornbread and beans. Also, at the conditment bar you can get extra BBQ sauce (they had two types).

Here's the menu:

Here's the 1/2 slab of St. Louis Ribs:

I ordered the Pork Pulled Sandwich but I forgot to take a picture. Mine came with beans but no cornbread. I thought the cornbread was good so, I was bummed I didn't get any. DD7 ordered the children's hot dog. She got applesauce & wanted grapes but they were out so, she got jello. If you look closely you can see my pork pulled sandwich in the upper left hand corner:

My dds did think the birds were a bit agressive. We did not feed them but they still begged for food.

I'm loving this review!!! I must comment on that hot dog....that is the most "po, pathetic" hot dog that I have ever seen!!!:lmao: I guess it is pretty good for a kids meal..lol.

Great start, looking forward to more!

It is a bit of an ickle hot dog but i've had them there before when I ordered a kids meal and it was delicious :goodvibes

Actually I think that chocolate martini looks pretty pathetic. :lmao:

I'm with you, OP ... where's the delicious creaminess??? :confused3

Great pictures - looking forward to the rest of your reviews. :thumbsup2

Great start, really enjoying your reviews and I also need creaminess in a chocolate martini!

LOL... agree and just think I haven't taken her to Casey's yet. I'm a mean Mommy.

Great start, looking forward to more!

She thought so too.

Thanks... it was a hard Martini for me to drink.

Great review, shame about the martini though :sad2:
:confused3 I was confused too. Also, the server didn't really shake like a bartender would (very inexperience mixologist).

Awesome! Count me in for this one!!
Thanks.. I'm a bit nervous writing my first review but dh is wondering why I keep taking pictures of my food.

Great start, really enjoying your reviews and I also need creaminess in a chocolate martini!
Thanks...

Don't be nervous about writing reviews ... there's no right or wrong, just what works best for you. And keep having fun! :thumbsup2

Our next stop was at Anandapur Yak & Yeti. When I originally made the reservation at 180 days out the latest time I could get was 4:45 pm. A bit early for dinner especially since we wanted to eat at Flame Tree BBQ as well. I forgot to change our time when the park hours changed to later so, we weren't super hungry for this meal. But we still ate...

I had the Yak Attack. It was very fruity and yummy drink:

2013875790041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

My dds had the Berry Cherry Limeade. It was VERY sweet.

2225761510041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh had beer but for some reason I didn't take a picture but don't worry I took a picture in Germany... LOL...

This was the one meal that dd11 ordered off the adult menu. We ordered 2 appetizers and shared among the 4 of us. First up, Pork Pot Stickers - Pan seared or steamed with soy lime dipping sauce:

2296625570041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

These were good but nothing special. However, the sauce did help the dish alot.

Then, we shared the Pork Egg Rolls - Served with chili plum dipping sauce:

2030312100041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Everyone loved the Egg Rolls. They were very tasty.

For our main course we had the following:

DD11 had the Stir-Fried Beef & Broccoli - Flank steak, broccoli and a brown sauce. - $17.99

2153696570041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

DD7 had the mini burger with carrots and applesauce:

2658995490041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh had the Crispy Mahi Mahi - Filet of mahi mahi, Japanese bread crumbs, Cantonese sweet and sour sauce, jasmine rice and stir-fried veggies. - $20.99
2411392000041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I had the Shaoxing Steak & Shrimp - Skirt steak, tempura-battered shrimp, jasmine rice, stir-fried veggies, and chili plum dipping sauce. - $24.99

2337230860041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Overall the meals were good. This is definitely an Americanized type chinese food. The beef on both dishes was a bit greasy. The Mahi-mahi was good though. The veggies were excellant.

Both dds ordered the Ice Cream Sundae. Even though dd11 ordered the adult meal they charged us the kid price for the sundae. The adults did not order dessert and I was VERY bummed as I was too full. Next time I gotta remember to have the meals more spaced out. I really wanted to try the Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons with vanilla ice cream and honey vanilla drizzle.. Oh, well.. next time..

We thought the food was good. It wasn't our top restaurant on our list but we definitely liked it better than Rain Forest Cafe. So, this will definitely be our lunch/dinner choice for AK.

I'm gonna move fast on this report as I don't want to forget anything... So, here's another meal we had. We had breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table. It is a fixed priced menu. We've eaten here everytime we come to Disney. The price is getting a bit much though. Anyways... it is an all you can eat meal so, you can definitely have seconds. I scheduled this meal at 10 am and dinner at 6 pm at Kona Cafe. This was a good spacing between meals for the adults.

Once Upon A Time Breakfast - A traditional breakfast consisting of pre-plated Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Cheese Danish, Fresh Fruit, Breakfast Breads, Potato Casserole, Juice and Coffee. You may select the Healthy Alternative: Muesli served with fresh fruit and yogurt. Also, includes an assortment of juice, coffee and milk. - $31.99 * Also, includes a photo with Cinderella in a 5 by 7 picture plus to smaller wallet sizes and one 5 by 7 of the castle (I'm not 100% sure on the sizes of the pictures though).

Tea... dh and I love tea.... Later you'll see our review of the Grand Floridian Tea...

Here's the pre-plated adult version. It includes Berry Blintz, Potato Casserole, bacon, sausage & scrambled eggs:

Here's the child's plate. It includes bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs & french toast sticks:

We've always enjoyed this meal in the past. This is the 1st time we did not get the first seating of the day when I called 180 days out. We did feel a little rushed with the princesses. Also, we had a long wait for Cinderella as she was performing in the Castle Show so, we had to wait for her. The decor is still outstanding. I'm not sure if we'll do this breakfast again. We might try dinner or lunch next time. One thing to remember with this meal it is all you can eat. So, feel free to order extra.

After CRT we had dinner at Kona Cafe. I was still stuffed from breakfast so, I didn't order appetizers but dh did...

First off, they had bread and macadamia nut butter. This was really good.

2481555620041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Here's our choices. Dh's appetizer: Kona Salad - Mixed greens, Maytag bleu cheese, fresh fruit, red onions, and smoked almonds, with a citrus vinaigrette. - $6.99

This was excellant..

2007388180041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Next up are our entrees... DD11 ordered off the adult menu this time as well.

Slow-Roasted Prime Rib - Served with mashed potatoes, and stir-fried broccoli florets. - $21.99

2358482500041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

DD7 ordered from the children's menu: Grilled Chicken Strips - Served with macaroni topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella served with veggies and fruit salad. Includes choice of beverage: 1% milk, bottled water, or juice. French fries and soft drinks available upon request. - $7.49

2589089970041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

2517930590041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

At Kona they have all the desserts on display so, I took pictures of all of them.

I'm not 100% sure on the name of this one. I think this is the Kilauea Torte.

Children's Make your own sundae:

2425212940041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Chocolate Macadamia Nut Tart (I might have this confused with the Kilauea Torte though.

Chocolate Fondue:

No Sugar Added Apple Stack:

2821807480041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

I ordered the Banana-Chocolate Creme Brulee:

2058725390041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Both girls ordered the Kona Kone. It came with toppings as well. I can't remember all of them. One had M&Ms, etc.

2322893790041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh had the White Chocolate Cheesecake:

2333783180041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

The food here is excellant. The service was great. I didn't order any fancy drinks as I was full but I had iced tea and it was great. Definitely could tell it was made from tea bags and not instant stuff. The only thing weird here is that our table was along the walking path. Actually, we were right behind the check-in desk. They had a little barrier there but I felt a little on display. Also, they put us at a table that sat 8 people. A little ackward for the waitress. Definitely, a place I want to come back to.

Great reviews so far!! And, yes, you have the Kona dessert names with the correct photos!

The previous night we had attended MVMCP. So, today we slept in and scheduled tea at 2 pm. Then, we planned on going to EPCOT afterwards and going to a counter service for dinner.

We were seated within minutes of checking in. Our table had a nice setup:

2093106710041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Dh and I ordered the Grand Tea -- The classic English tradition of Afternoon Tea, Grand Floridian style. We offer you a variety of tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts, followed by your choice of our freshly baked tea pastries or English trifle, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine and your choice of tea. Priced per guest. - $25.50

I got the Russian Earl Grey as my tea. Dh got the custom blend. It was 3 black teas. I don't see it on any menu so, I don't have the exact name of the tea.

The kids ordered Ms. Potts Tea but had real tea with it. They drank the Mad Hatter tea.

Our tea came with champagne (for the adults):

2582095930041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

They had sugar cubes in cute little pots:

2837537730041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

First up was the sandwiches. We got Chicken Salad with Almonds, I'm not sure about the next sandwich (my notes are fuzzy here), Egg Salad Sandwich & Cucumber with Watercress. We also got an onion tart (in the front) and some sort of pate in the back.

2159106320041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

The kids got: Tuna Sandwich, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Ham & Cheese Sandwich:

2634921480041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Next, we got a scone and strawberry Tartlet with jam & devonshire cream:

2184788830041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

The kids did not get anything like the above. They got dessert which they had a choice of items. Mine picked the chocolate covered Strawberry & chocolate eclair:

2286181170041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Then, the adults had a choice between Strawberry and cream OR English Trifle. We both choose English Trifle.

2363878430041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

Doesn't the champagne look yummy:

2196389510041821303S500x500Q85.jpg

The tea was very lovely and the service was great. However, I will have to admit this wasn't enough food. We go to to tea houses here in town and it is like having a FULL meal. This was definitely a snack and I was hoping it would be more a full meal. My mistake. Especially, since the kids did not receive a scone, strawberry tart, onion tart or pate they were shorted a lot of food. I ended up having to share my scone with them. Less for me doesn't make a happy Mom. Also, the overall meal was very SWEET. I feel that savory items fill you up better than sweet. While I'd do this tea again, I would go realizing this is a VERY LIGHT meal. All the teas were very GOOD. The girls tea was very sweet.

Also, I asked where they bought their tea from and the waitress told me tealeaf.com but I'm not having any luck with that web address. So, if anyone know where they purchase their teas I'd love to have the website? Thanks, Tina
